I mean sure people like leafy who make zero effort videos aren't doing real work and I'm extremely butthurt about that due to my struggle to find any sort of employment for the past 4 months, but I'm not butthurt enough to claim everyone who's primary source of income is Youtube doesn't have a real job. Hell, if I didn't have a terrible monotone voice that would put everyone to sleep I'd probably make my own channel.
ASMR is a thing now.
they must accept the reality of monetization on youtube
while this is very shitty, i havent been able to monetize my videos for years anyway after google banned my adsense account for no reason :v: really hope this is the final push people need to migrate to a new platform honestly.
It's true that there's some incredibly low effort content on Youtube but that's not all there is. The one way Youtube isn't a "real job" though is that you have absolutely zero job security, it can all vanish at the whim of Google. So you definitely need to have alternate revenue streams and backup plans.
I was wondering when the people who believe 'Youtube isn't a real job' would come in. According to that logic, the whole entire entertainment industry, with the jobs of director, fiction writer, actor, video game designer, etc. is not real work and nobody should be paid for it. Oh, and sports people shouldn't be paid either. How utterly hilarious and extremely out of touch.
It has happened to me for a while now. But it has fixed itself. Just an automated system that is really sensitive.

Especially people who do freelance work because they could go months without a job.
So Youtube is now owned by the Vatican or something? :v: Soon you can only post Christianity approved videos.
Its bad when boogie is freaking out.
This is a non story to me. If your money comes from ads, then the advertisers own you. They can tell you what you can or can't do or show. It's lame to get mad at the people who are paying you because you want artistic freedom. Don't accept their money and do what you want.
Okay, just to clarify a little. When I said actual work, I meant having to fill out applications, do interviews, go to school, hone your skills over the years, etc. Just making videos of yourself doing whatever it is you like to do at home, is not a job. I don't care how much effort people put into their videos. I worked on one of my videos for about 10 hours strait, filming gameplay footage, editing it, rendering, etc. Aside from the fact the videos shit, I don't think I should get paid for putting that much effort into it.
I guess this only applies to English swearing, so time to start swearing in one's native language?
I guess PewDiePie'll prevail again by going back to screaming shit in Swedish all the time.
The job security threat is bull, considering that I doubt even the most shaky of positions would never ever in their wildest imagination consider that such a nonsense, vague change in a TOS would threaten not only your own job, but that of hundreds of thousands of your colleagues
Not really. There's no viable alternative to youtube, as of right now. And this isn't going to create some sort of push to create one either. The infrastructure needed, as well as the capital needed, are incredibly high.

If someone made a viable alternative to youtube they would break the bank

so who wants to make a youtube clone that doesn't suck dick???

The biggest problem with YouTube has always been the monopoly it holds. There's no real competing service.
Making a YouTube alternative would be an incredibly hard undertaking for a bunch of reasons - but capital is probably the biggest one. Hosting video takes up a ton of space. Despite a revenue of $4 billion YouTube isn't breaking even, but because Google has a ton of money they're able to offset the enormous costs of YouTube with some of their other ventures.

Advertisers need to get with the fucking times and realise that all the kids nowadays are watching shit like Filthy Frank, by disabling ads on their videos they're missing out on quite a large audience
elaborate
All Leafy does is talk over prerecorded CSGO surf footage and doesn't really create content because it's just him showing someone else's video while he cuts to CSGO surf and saying "OH MY GOD THE CRINGE IM GOING TO KILL MYSELF" every few minutes. It probably takes him 2 hours tops to make a video. He shits out one video a day. That's not real work.
Its bad when boogie is freaking out.
this is absolutely fucked up boogie is literally the friendliest youtuber out there outside of GMM and maybe a few more and even he is being hit this is why I'd never monetize on YT, I'd do it all through patreon.
Wow, so youtube is back at being a shitshow all over again One more reason to not even bother to start my own shit I guess. Now I can't even say what I want without being censored Fuck whoever is in charge here.
Good in concept, badly executed and totally not applicable to youtube.

If someone pays you for what you do, and getting paid is why you do it, that's a job. Interviews, applications, and all that stuff is just ONE way to get a job. Some people get hired with no application or interview, because they have an inside connection. Do those people not have jobs?
Advertisers need to get with the fucking times and realise that all the kids nowadays are watching shit like Filthy Frank, by disabling ads on their videos they're missing out on quite a large audience
yeah but that's their choice if the grumpy old rich people who run whatever sponsorship company don't want to be associated with Filthy Frank, then they wont, and he wont get their money sponsors can choose who they want to give money to so they can stand behind them -- thats the nature of the business. i'm not saying its right for YT to just give it a big scythe and chop down everyone, but no amount of yelling will make them suddenly want to give content creators money. the fact that content creators got income in the first place was already a blessing, especially since the entertainment industry is extremely cutthroat.
This basically sums up my take on it: If YouTube is doing this to enforce their SJW PC culture crap then yeah, it's bad. But we don't have proof of that yet. You don't have to right to force advertisers to put ads on your videos, and a lot of people (even in this thread) don't seem to get that. If you want somebody to put ads on your content then they have to like you/you have to pander to them. That's how it works people. Stop crying about YouTube becoming more like the rest of media.
Heres Ethans video on this

'big ups to youtube for responding so promptly' what?? this is so weird. either youtube is talking out of their ass on this, or all these content creators are pulling bullshit, and I can assume its the former. its very unlikely that 'nothing has changed' when all these creators are getting flags out of thin air from one day to the next, when they didnt get any before (because they would have talked about this sorta thing before if their videos got flagged for having a cuss word in the title) so clearly the policy has changed, and advertiser friendly didnt exist before this whole deal. either that, or it wasnt being enforced.
Heres Ethans video on this
So this is why I get recommend most utter garbage when I watch videos, because people decided to tag them with rape etc vile retarded shit.
Maybe people wouldn't complain so much about making Youtube videos now being a real job if Youtube itself didn't encourage video creators to make long, drawn out videos instead of short but sweet stuff with a lot of effort put into it. Still, this stuff is pretty terrible. How did they look at this without thinking "Yeah, this totally fucks over loads of popular Youtubers, including the biggest one in here."

They're a middleman providing a platform for sponsors to be able to have reach into a different industry and sling their products. Nobody at Youtube was thinking, "Boy, you know what would be a really good idea? To piss off major content creators on our platform." You can 100% bet their hand was forced by sponsors.
