How do you know this is the case? Its entirely possible its all legit. This could be just like when Kayne West sampled daft punk and for about a day people thought he had horribly stolen from them. Although Will.I.Am does have prior form with this though so I guess its possible. But yeah its entirely possible its just sampling. [editline]17th April 2013[/editline] Do you have proof that permission has not be sought in this case? This could very well be a case of people acting like twats without getting all the facts. A thing a majority of the Internet seems to be good at doing.
Arty said Will.I.Am did not seek permission from him, Mat Zo or Anjunabeats.
almost all EDM uses the same "arrpegio patterns" and three chords tops (most EDM songs only have one chord lol). it's great to see a load of people with no music theory knowledge whatsoever try to explain what is and what is not "theft" [editline]17th April 2013[/editline]
I'm fine with this when they: A) Seek permission B) Give credit C) Seek more permission if they want to sell it Otherwise they are just stealing another persons work and claiming it as their own. The roots of house have no bearing in todays scene and rightly so. If you weren't ignorant about current EDM you would know there is a pretty big uproar by a large amount of fans online when blatant ripping off occurs.
fyi you know nothing about copyright. [editline]17th April 2013[/editline] even when you are ON a SOUND RECORDING being credited is not legally enforceable. [editline]17th April 2013[/editline] seeking permission has NOTHING to do with sampling unless the original artist owns the masters
Here's a good example of just how the same they are http://videodoubler.com/combo/4412
almost all EDM uses the same "arrpegio patterns" and three chords tops (most EDM songs only have one chord lol). it's great to see a load of people with no music theory knowledge whatsoever try to explain what is and what is not "theft"
What a quality post from a quality member /sarcasm What you just said is one of the most idiotic and ignorant things I have ever heard said about music. I actually don't think you have ever listened to a song that can be classified as EDM to be honest.
fyi you know nothing about copyright.
Explain how.
even when you are ON a SOUND RECORDING being credited is not legally enforceable.
I never said it was.
seeking permission has NOTHING to do with sampling unless the original artist owns the masters
Who owns the original? Anjunabeats. Who did Will.I.Am never approach for permission to use their copyrighted material in a commercial work? Anjunabeats.
What a quality post from a quality member /sarcasm What you just said is one of the most idiotic and ignorant things I have ever heard said about music. I actually don't think you have ever listened to a song that can be classified as EDM to be honest. Explain how. I never said it was. And guess who owns the original? Anjunabeats. Guess who Will.I.Am never approached for permission to use copyrighted material in a commercial work? Anjunabeats.
You can do the whole self-righteous defence thing if you like but what is classified as modern EDM is actually generally made up from from these patterns and a minimal amount of chords repeated. Pretty much fact if you look at the theory. And considering your only response to it was "you're an idiot" I guess you must have no counterargument?? Also generally poor form in an argument to call people idiotic and stupid and ignorant and bad at production and all the other really lame insults I've seen while lurking in this thread, honestly what are you guys trying to prove by just being abusive to people, why not be reasonable Also the fact that will.i.am never approached anjunabeats is pretty much irrelevant in the context of the development of contemporary EDM for reasons already stated You can say what you like but the fact is that EDM would not be fertile ground for innovation or creativity and electronic music would not have advanced if it weren't for the very lax attitude towards copyright law thats pretty much existed as long as the scene has been alive
tbh the fact that will.i.am is collaborating with chris brown after the rihanna beating is bad enough regardless of whether you think he stole the track or not
tbh the fact that will.i.am is collaborating with chris brown after the rihanna beating is bad enough regardless of whether you think he stole the track or not
Exactly this is a much better grounding on which to criticise the new track
You can do the whole self-righteous defence thing if you like but what is classified as modern EDM is actually generally made up from from these patterns and a minimal amount of chords repeated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=i4ANBQsmS1s#t=181s Such a basic pattern with simple chords and no melody, don't you think? Obviously not all EDM is like the above track but to group this track with others and then claiming that this has no musical quality because it shares a label is just dumb. I know you obviously don't have an aversion to electronic music since I've heard some of your stuff and you seem to incorporate some electronic elements.
Also generally poor form in an argument to call people idiotic and stupid and ignorant and bad at production and all the other really lame insults I've seen while lurking in this thread, honestly what are you guys trying to prove by just being abusive to people
Someone who acts dumb deserves to be called dumb. If someone said that all heavy metal music is screamo shit I would call them an idiot, if someone said current pop music is leading the downfall of our youth I would call them an idiot. Being one of those people who goes "I don't listen to beep-boop, I like real music" makes you dumb. Oh and I just noticed, is RoadOfGirl actually Vedicardi? No wonder.
tbh the fact that will.i.am is collaborating with chris brown after the rihanna beating is bad enough regardless of whether you think he stole the track or not
I guess you would call this...a sucker punch to the EDM community [sp]YEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH[/sp]
I love Arty and Mat Zo. They're two of my favorite DJs. They could have at least tried to negotiate something before stealing it.
Also the fact that will.i.am never approached anjunabeats is pretty much irrelevant in the context of the development of contemporary EDM for reasons already stated You can say what you like but the fact is that EDM would not be fertile ground for innovation or creativity and electronic music would not have advanced if it weren't for the very lax attitude towards copyright law thats pretty much existed as long as the scene has been alive
Ok cool, I'm just going to download your tracks and upload them to my soundcloud under my name and maybe I'll rap over the top, hell, I might as well try to sell it also.

No wonder.
Yes, I have listened to trance. I have listened to a hell of a lot of music thank you very much. Your main problem is that for some reason you are automatically assuming that everyone who disagrees with you is dumb. Where is the logic in that? Also what's your authority on calling everyone else dumb? As far as I can tell you've basically zoomed into this thread just so you can be a horrible dude to everyone. Good work man obviously you've got a real great attitude to music in general!! Furthermore another terrible, it doesn't matter who roadofgirl is because who he is is entirely irrelevant to the point he's making, so there's another pretty terrible argument If you can't be civil and discuss things in a calm manner then you've already lost the argument especially because your go to response to any point someone in this thread has made so far has been "you're dumb, I'm right" so yeah if you can't do any good proof then why are you even bothering to pursue this you are literally wasting your time just so you can get a kick out of acting like you know better than everyone else in this thread good job :)
Ok cool, I'm just going to download your tracks and upload them to my soundcloud under my name and maybe I'll rap over the top, hell, I might as well try to sell it also.
Well it's probably more publicity than I'll ever get from them but honestly if this is the best you can come up with then it seems like you're just fishing for zings good job well reasoned A+
Ok cool, I'm just going to download your tracks and upload them to my soundcloud under my name and maybe I'll rap over the top, hell, I might as well try to sell it also.
id be cool with that seeing as you made your own contribution to the track by rapping over it there's a big dif between sampling and straight calling someone elses track your own and i think youre being purposefully misleading just to make a really mediocre point here i understand and sympathize with your stance on copyright law and sampling ethics but i disagree and i think youre being silly by using examples like "lets see how YOU like it??" when youre arguing with people who clearly wouldnt give a shit what you did with their tracks lol the way i see it (at least with my work), if someone raps over one of my tracks and uploads it to soundcloud without my permission, as long as they give credit i dont mind. because either A. they IMPROVED on my work and made something worth listening to for people who otherwise wouldnt enjoy my work, and i get credit on the track and possible new fans, or B. they make a shit track, in which case i dont really need to worry about them "stealing" my fans or whatever
Yes, I have listened to trance. I have listened to a hell of a lot of music thank you very much. Good work man obviously you've got a real great attitude to music in general!!
My authority is that those who make blanket statements about genres are dumb, if you disagree with me on that, you are dumb. You generally don't like electronic music? Fine. Don't go saying it is all the same.
Furthermore another terrible, it doesn't matter who roadofgirl is because who he is is entirely irrelevant to the point he's making, so there's another pretty terrible argument
It explains why he hates electronic music since Verdicardi was extremely against all synthesised music and made his thoughts pretty clear.
If you can't be civil and discuss things in a calm manner then you've already lost the argument especially because your go to response to any point someone in this thread has made so far has been "you're dumb, I'm right" so yeah if you can't do any good proof then why are you even bothering to pursue this
Calling someone dumb for making a dumb statement does not equate to losing an argument. I would gladly debate anyone who actually brought up points that made sense, regrettably I shouldn't have called thisispain ignorant because he isn't, but RoadOfGirl literally just said one of the most nonsensical things I have ever heard about music.
but honestly if this is the best you can come up with then it seems like you're just fishing for zings good job well reasoned A+
Right back at you, buddy. [editline]17th April 2013[/editline]
id be cool with that seeing as you made your own contribution to the track by rapping over it
Good for you. Now what about the people who don't want their music stolen?
Arty said Will.I.Am did not seek permission from him, Mat Zo or Anjunabeats.
Fair enough, its a pretty shitty move on his behalf then. (Although, very unclear from the OP)
Good for you. Now what about the people who don't want their music stolen?
personally i try to respect peoples copyright wishes or w/e, i dont sample stuff if people don't want me to sample it. i think will.i.am is being a dick by taking someone elses composition, rapping over it and turning it into a commercial release, all without even attempting to get the sample cleared, especially considering the resources he has as a big name artist with a label behind him. but would i have the same reaction if we replaced will.i.am with some 17 year old rapper who released his mixtape on bandcamp for $9? nah. thats just me though and i understand if you disagree which is why i wont be a dick and call you names
all music is stolen in varying degrees,
sorry to put it so brashly but this is the biggest load of bullshit i've heard from any human being ever in my life
If you can't be civil and discuss things in a calm manner then you've already lost the argument especially because your go to response to any point someone in this thread has made so far has been "you're dumb, I'm right" so yeah if you can't do any good proof then why are you even bothering to pursue this
ive been basically pelted with cigarettes this entire thread ;( [editline]17th April 2013[/editline]
sorry to put it so brashly but this is the biggest load of bullshit i've heard from any human being ever in my life
yeah i mean pink floyd that was all original content those chords in breathe lifted from Blue in Green were totally pink floyds original creation [editline]17th April 2013[/editline]
regrettably I shouldn't have called thisispain ignorant because he isn't
anyone whos seen my posts about electronic music knows im not ignorant thx
Not exactly sure why this is news. Timbaland has been doing this with c64 SID artists for literally decades now, and so have a couple other hip hop producers. The only difference here is the original artist has the monetary means to readily sue, when most c64 artists didn't.
yeah i mean pink floyd that was all original content those chords in breathe lifted from Blue in Green were totally pink floyds original creation
thank you for being an ignorant and presumptuous tosser, i'll be sure to put you on my christmas card list. nowhere in that post did i ever imply that pink floyd alone, or roger waters, were original in their writing or content, you just decided to take my name and twist it to make yourself look like billy big bollocks.
thank you for being an ignorant and presumptuous tosser, i'll be sure to put you on my christmas card list.
im looking forward to it if its as friendly and insightful as your posting
im looking forward to it if its as friendly and insightful as your posting
at least i try and contribute something to a discussion instead of flailing my devil's advocate sign around like a lunatic, babbling incoherently, then falling over with my trousers round my ankles and farting loudly like you seem to do.
I like how there is more hatred in this thread towards the posters than Will.I.Am and Chris Brown.
at least i try and contribute something to a discussion instead of flailing my devil's advocate sign around like a lunatic, babbling incoherently, then falling over with my trousers round my ankles and farting loudly like you seem to do.
no you just came into the thread and tried "zinging" me after i had a nice talk with silent-bob where we reached a fair conclusion if im "babbling incoherently" then it must be a problem on your end because so far everyone's understood what i said perfectly :)
you're babbling incoherently because i called what you said the biggest load of bullshit i've ever read, and you suddenly started insinuating that somehow my post had implied that pink floyd were however original in some half-assed attempted at a zinger yourself.
you're babbling incoherently because i called what you said the biggest load of bullshit i've ever read, and you suddenly started insinuating that somehow my post had implied that pink floyd were however original in some half-assed attempted at a zinger yourself.
considering someone threatened to flame me because he was a "producer" i just assumed i made pink floyd fans angry again i appppologize
considering someone threatened to flame me because he was a "producer" i just assumed i made pink floyd fans angry again i appppologize
thank you. apology accepted.
This is still the worst ripoff I've ever heard I get fucking mad whenever I hear artists try to steal other songs into their own because they're fucking lazy
thank you. apology accepted.
ive had a rough day i got bit by a tiny dog so i said some things i didnt mean to say
