so people like a cartoon, give them a break.
I wouldn't have a problem with grown men being into MLP if they were a really niche group, but it's just EVERYWHERE. Even if adults obsessing over a cartoon designed for young girls wasn't weird, it's still not even very a good or unique show or anything. If aliens came to earth and connected to the internet they'd probably deduce that MLP is the greatest work of art humankind has ever produced seeing how much of the web is filled with pony related bullshit. You're given the impression from the amount of people ranting on about how much they love MLP and how many fan sites there are that's it's better than the work of all the great literary classics, the masters of classsical music, and the world's greatest scientists and philosophers, ect. It's a generic lowbrow animated tv show for kids broadcast in a few western countries. Why is it so popular? Why are people so fanatically in love with it? Why can't you find a single website without pony-related content? Why do people treat it like some revolutionary polito-philosophical international movement with it's own traditions and dogma? I don't know. Kill me.
omg im so angry my entitlement-o-meter is going off the scale
You mean this? [thumb]http://imgkk.com/i/wp3_.jpg[/thumb]
Wasn't there also an M1 Garand that someone gave the same treatment to?
I think this is going over the line of "liking something" into "obsession"
He's wearing what equates to a morale patch. Something most all soldiers wear.
That doesn't really seem right for people who shoot at other people
The thing that is truly bad about this, is if he's wearing patches like that in a combat scenario. Taliqaeda/Aliban may think that he has some sort of commanding position, and target him and him alone.
Well, even that military brony website says to not put on patches like that:
Recently Fox News posted an article about Military Bronies. The article focuses on the fact that soldiers shouldn't be putting Rainbow Dash's cutie mark on their utilities. And you know what? THEY'RE RIGHT. Let's be real here. Its great that you love the show. It's great that you enjoy the messages of love and tolerance. It's great that you are proud of your fandom. But remember, we may be bronies, but we're members of the armed forces first and foremost. This isn't a job, it's a lifestyle. Watching My Little Pony is just a hobby, and wearing MLP patches is not authorized. It doesn't matter if this was a harmless convention. This is a uniform violation and you can get in huge trouble for it. We at FOB Equestria believe that any person wearing their uniform should ensure that they are following the proper uniform regulations set down by their respective branch of service. Not every uniform is the same and not every nation has the same uniform regulations. We encourage you to take another look at your uniform regulation orders so we can avoid a fiasco like this in the future. This is not conducive to mission accomplishment. We aren't trying to send the message that Military Bronies are a bunch of rebels who don't care about the rules. This isn't helping us in our mission of painting the Brony fandom or the military in a positive light. If anything, it's done some irreparable damage. We can't get these pictures off the internet now and the nice lady who wrote the article isn't going to take down her article no matter how much we plead. Military Bronies have only recently begun to emerge as a community, and we're not off to a good start here.

This entire thread, from both sides, has proven that being objective is something that FP collectively fails at. I admit I've failed to do so in the past as well. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a cartoon. It's entertainment, not some super deep Odyssey into the depths of the human condition. It's a slice of life show that's not meant to be viewed in an specific order with as little continuity as possible. Plot and character growth, while nice are not to be an expectation in this specific case. Although if you've watched the show from S1 to S2 there is some character growth, although I wont get into that. Criticizing the show for its plot lines or depth is simply absurd. Its also something that we see in most cartoons from even a decade back, many of your childhood favorites dance around this format. Secondly, there's nothing unusual about the fandom other than what it was founded upon. A cartoon. It's debatable whether or not that in itself is is unusual since many people on the internet have come to love other cartoons such as Adventure Time or the Regular Show and the Legend of Korra. Nerds, neckbeards and the socially awkward existed long before the show did and will exist after it fades away. Almost everything that has an adult following has its share of shitty OCs, strange porn and illogical shipping. Avatar, Starwars, Star Trek, Ponies, Homestuck and even fucking Mass Effect. I'm looking at you, Talimancers. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The fetishism within the fandom, which from my own observation as a person who actually enjoys the porn, is a minority. The guys you see in thread simulators and confession tumblrs represent a small sample of individuals who could very well be posting lies and exaggeration for shock value. Facepunch itself is a rainbow of fetishes and sexuality, with people fapping to dragons, airplanes, vore and whatever the hell sobotnik likes. When Howard Stern made this video and then FP starts making circle jerky statements, when people pretend they know everything about and can make judgements about millions of people they've never met, is when the lack of objectivity and intellectual dishonesty here is at its greatest.

He is representing the U.S Army, He should act more professionally.
Also serving the country. He should have a fucking flag there or something.
most of them appear to be in rear-echelon positions, stuff like mail clerks, cyber command (Norwegian), musicians, network data specialists. There is one tanker though
yeah not following orders thar
Also non-authorized. Yet nobody complains about it.
Also non-authorized. Yet nobody complains about it.
pentagon thinks otherwise.
That's actually kind of badass if it's in the hands of a marine. "Taste the rainbow, bitches"

Also serving the country. He should have a fucking flag there or something.
Other side of the uniform.

Brony marines don't sound good at all. I'm just hoping it doesn't spread, or there'll be a lot of confused insurgents, wondering why the American soldiers like colourful horses so much. I'm not anywhere CLOSE to being an insurgent, and hopefully never will be, and even I'M confused. Seriously, why would warriors, men of death and fighting, like something so tooth-rottingly childish and antithetic to the principle of being a fighter of mans in a horrific environment of amorality, bloodshed and uncertainty? War is a horrible place and situation; ponies have no place in it, especially since cavalry has long since been replaced by jeeps and tanks.
It's almost like they're in a horrible place that lacks any sense of humanity and want an escape from it...
I know you have to keep cheery and keep your spirits up in a such a hellish time but this MIGHT be taking it a TEENY bit too far
This is what happens when you let gays into the military, then they come out as bronies. Vote for Mitt Romney 2012 to stop this monstrosity. And then someone takes me seriously
I know you have to keep cheery and keep your spirits up in a such a hellish time but this MIGHT be taking it a TEENY bit too far
And maybe people have different wants or needs. What did you do to take your mind of things while you were in Afghanistan?
I'm still waiting for a fellow UK member to say the usual "bloody yanks"
So you're saying fans of the show aren't marginalized enough for you?
Just stop acting like bronyism (I totally made up that word) is something significant and important, and stop shoving it down people throats
Because having something cute and funny in your life makes up some of the bad stuff?
Makes them seem like pussies to be honest Just to be blunt as hell but that's how it is Soldiers have always had ways to escape the brutality of war, colorful childrens programming for girls makes them seem weak Don't they normally play basketball and shit?

As long as bronies don't try to force anything on anyone, I don't see what the problem is at all. Live and let live, I'd say.
If it wasn't My Little Pony, I don't think people would be caring as much. Just my two cents.
it's a lot worse, lower magazine capacity, manual action, etc. It's more "classic and old" that's why he probably wants it
could he potentially shoot himself with it easier than with a standard issue AR?
I'm still waiting for a fellow UK member to say the usual "bloody yanks"
Bloody limeys
Just stop acting like bronyism (I totally made up that word) is something significant and important, and stop shoving it down people throats
This non argument again. Stop going into places that you know will draw them and it won't be an issue. Adblock avatars if it pisses you off so much. You don't have a right to not be offended. Man the fuck up and deal with it. "Wahhh, these guys arent as manly as me. I'm going to bitch and piss and moan about it on an internet forum."
