• Egyptian Army gives Morsi 48 hours to 'realise the demands of the people'

A political blog I read posted a thought on Egypt, thought I'd share:
The liberals in Egypt have over the past year not heeded President Mohammed Morsi’s invitation to join his elected government as an opposition. They are looking for a Goldilocks situation where they write a new constitution and elect a government which is secular and liberal. In staying out of the government and participating in demonstrations in the streets, they have inadvertently allied themselves with oligarchical forces who supported ousted President Mubarak and Islamist extremist groups who believe that Mr. Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood is too middle of the road. The first rule about mobs is that they can only destroy, they can’t create. Only structured networks of people who have worked together for years and have a shared agenda can create an effective government. If Mr. Morsi’s government falls, or appears to be in danger, the dominant remaining structured network, the Egyptian Army will, possibly with a great deal of bloodshed, clear the streets and re-establish military rule - which is much to be preferred when the alternative is anarchy. This is a real tragedy for the Egyptian people
