I'm still waiting for my Baneblade.
Apparently it's not an issue with modern armor anymore. Look at Leo 2A5 and above, you'd imagine the turret armor would work as a shot trap but I'm pretty sure they've thought of that.
It's a combination of materials used in the armour and the mechanics of the rounds
The Armata does seem very similar externally to the Merkava mk 5
I think it's height profile is noticeable lower than Merkava cause it's not hybrid tank (tank+apc)
Merkava was built to fulfill dual role thus it's not exactly MBT (while it can match many)
Armata is purely MBT as Russian ground doctrine counts with enough separate APCs

They probably design these things with potential hit angle simulations and such, trying to find a turret shape that's basically completely oblique or parallel at any practical angle
Given that, tanks will just continue to get more and money samey-looking over time as the "perfect" tank evolves.

I thought the Armata was designed as an armored platform that is the basis of a MBT, IFV, APCm Combat Engineering Vehicle, and Mobile Artillery. So in a way, it's taking the Merkava concept even further.

Because the latter is hardly unusual, been going on for almost as long as there have been tanks.
