• Tourists treating 9/11 Memorial like a playground

Big news over nothing. It's not like tourists shit there and destroy the place. It might be indecent, but come on, no need to pretend like it's end of the world.
I've been to the Pearl Harbor memorial.
OOo. I have a story about this one. And it's on topic...sort of. I went there, and of course, same sort of enviroment as the 9/11 memorial (act respectfully, don't be a dick). As I'm walking around the memorial, I see a flash and hear the first sound made by a human...laughter. A couple asians are all standing around making peace signs and taking pictures and what not. Now, I don't mind if they don't want to be serious with this experience, but if they want to ruin the whole atmosphere for others, including relatives of those who have died here, they can fuck off.
Sure but going NO SITTING NO COFFEE NO KISSING FINAL DESTINATION is stupid.
Well from what I've seen there are plenty of places to sit, so it's not unreasonable to ask people to just use the benches instead of just sprawling out anywhere. And no one is saying you can't drink coffee there, but at least keep track of it and be more careful so you don't spill it all over the place. Also, I'm not sure what you or other people are into, but surely there are better places to make out with someone than a 9/11 Memorial, it's not exactly the most romantic place. Then again maybe those are viewed as totally unreasonable things to ask of people at a memorial for something this bad, it's all just my opinion really.
The 9/11 memorial is technically a grave site for the few thousand people that were completely vapirized and never found in the collapse. Show some respect you cunts. You don't go around a cemetery leaning on peoples gravestones and having a good time.
i do (User was banned for this post ("Trolling" - Starpluck))
What ever happened to celebrating the dead's lives rather than mourning their deaths?
By sitting on dead people's names engraved on plaques and spilling coffee on them? They are technically graves since many bodies were vaporized, so that's pretty fucking disrespectful and rude.
i do
Everyone already knows you are a terrible person, we don't need any more proof.
Wait, etiquette expert? Do we really need the opinion of an etiquette expert? how the fuck do you even attain that title?

Don't see why not. [editline]2nd September 2012[/editline] It's a public space, you can't force people to act a certain way.
Yeah they should throw parties in the memorial site.
Would that really be such a bad idea? If I was dead and had a memorial I'd rather people have fun than mourn. Maybe just me.
My family used to have a pool table in our rec room(ie back patio). My parents had one major rule, no exceptions- no one is allowed to put their drink(of any kind) on the pool table. Not when you're thinking about your shot, not 'just for a second', not ever. Why? Because drinks will be spilled on any surface you allow drinks to be placed, guaranteed. Someday it will happen. It would be nice to think just because this is a memorial that won't happen but that's not realistic. It's how people are. This is why if you work somewhere that has a microwave in the employee break room someone will eventually cook some foul smelling, drippy, microwave contaminating food in it and spoil it for everyone. That's why you have to plan for that stuff.
The problem isn't really what the dead want, they don't give a shit, they're dead, it's about what the living want. People that were affected by this shit are gonna, understandably, be outraged by this because it's making light of the situation. Then again, whether you let this happen or not doesn't influence the people's thoughts. I think the only real objection is that the people mourning don't really have a proper place to do it. I mean, is there really a difference between making light of something and acting like it?
It's a public space, you can't force people to act a certain way.
Is it a public space? From what I'm reading, the memorial is run by a non-profit corporation. We've already established that you need to apply for a visitor pass to enter the memorial. It's not a public park.
Speak for yourself. I used to play in one around the corner from me when I was young.
you should go sit in a corner
I saw people doing parkour at the holocaust memorial in Berlin. Did I make a thread about it? No, and you shouldn't have either. (User was banned for this post ("Trolling and yes its news." - BANNED USER))
Tell me, do you make it a point to go into every thread and open with a post making you look like a total asshole?
I think that would make me mad enough to rise from the grave and kick someones ass. or re-materialize from ashes

Death penalty.
Well, y'know, there are signs and guards that are supposed to prevent people from doing that.
pissing is intentional and what you said is stupid.
It's not like they were walking with a coffee and tripped. They were intentionally goofing around by balancing the thing on one of the angled corners, which caused the spill.
sorry taking shits on graves isn't my idea of fun but this is extremely tasteless and disrespectful I don't mind if you aren't bawling your eyes out over 9/11 but don't fucking trash a memorial, of any kind, dedicated to murdered innocents
when the fuck did taking a shit on graves become a reasonable comparison to make in this fucking thread
People need to remember that this site is almost in the middle of the busiest fucking place in America
People are getting far too worked up over 9/11. And its getting really old. I'm really not surprised thats whats happening to the memorial. If you make something bench like in a giant city what the hell do you think is gonna happen? I mean they put it in the wide open. Not like its hidden out of the way or anything
Your post is badly wrote
Written?
Actually, this is not true at all. The $530 million that was raised to construct and manage it came entirely from private donations and federal grants, not from tax money. I could refute your I-drank-the-Kool Aid points but I only have time for one because any guy who uses a racist as his forum avatar like you probably doesn't have brains enough to fathom much more.
"You didn't build that." Barack Obama. Do you really think that the portion of money it truly cost to build that place and will continue to cost to maintain was covered by the donated part of 530 million dollars? If your answer was yes please report to Walmart tomorrow, they have a stockroom career waiting for you. Secondly, where do you think Federal grants money come from, Michael Richards' ass? There is no conspiracy involved on the simplistic, idiotic level that you examine facts. The deception is deeper where you will probably never look. Do you wear Kramer shirts irl?
cemeteries are great places to have a good time, theyre great to have a couple of drinks and hang out at
I'll be sure to take that advice, wouldn't it be great to know that kids are drinking and fooling around on the graves of your passed relatives?
It doesnt matter, they're dead.
It doesnt matter, they're dead.
you can just go ahead and leave now
Part of what defines humans and sets us apart from the majority of animals is our respect and understanding for the dead.
Even if I hadn't heard about this, I'm way too paranoid about myself to even touch the names and god forbid put coffee there. I live in New York and I remember the day it happened, I couldn't think of doing any of that shit they did. I mean, it's a fucking memorial, they're terrible tourists. What the fuck else do they do? Go to D.C. and have a picnic with all the bronze soldiers at the Korean War memorial? (might be confusing that one)
