• Helicopter crashes into a pub in Glasgow (details sparse at current time)

I live in Glasgow city centre and I heard loads of sirens and emergency vehicles go past around half past 10 last night. Sounds like a real nightmare for those inside, what with it being such a small pub with so many people in it.
Its been confirmed 3 people have died. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-25165894 Also another picture of what happened:
Some people will do anything for a drink.
Here's a map of where the helicopter crashed: (The pub is where the 'A' marker is.) Although it's unfortunate that the pub was so busy at the time, the helicopter could just have easily crashed into one of the densely populated apartment buildings, or the large train station nearby. Also, the two buildings immediately next to the pub aren't in use, so no-one was in there. The pilot might have thought the pub itself wasn't in use too, but they just made the wrong call.

so close to the river too. maybe they were aiming for that
This is the most elaborate case of insurance fraud I've ever seen.
Updated OP as I'm awake now and can't sleeptype, [del]confirmed 3 people killed which is pretty shitty but I'm honestly surprised nobody else was killed[/del]. 32 people have been taken to hospitals with varying injuries. Turns out I was wrong, 8 killed
Looks like they might have tried to get it into the river but didn't make it.

[editline]30th November 2013[/editline] I was up watching the news until like 3am last night, was worried about a friend who occasionally drinks there. Thankfully she was okay. The whole event is absolutely tragic. So many unanswered questions.

I'm just glad that the people inside remained calm and left, would not want another repetition of that nightclub fire in America
I'm sure I saw a small report about a Kebab shop setting fire last night too. So much drama.
Shit, this happened close to where a friend of mine lives, was telling me he cycles past it every morning. Never thought anything like this would ever happen.
so close to the river too. maybe they were aiming for that
Highly doubtable they were aiming for anything to be honest, based on what the "experts" the BBC has had on. The reasons range from not being enough time to no one would do it.

It really has to suck to die by a helicopter crashing through the roof. I don't know why exactly it seems so much worse than getting hit trying to cross the road or something more conventional, but it really just feels worse.
this is why you dont drink on duty

Imagine if this had been America
Imagine if this had been America
I fail to see how that applies.

Damn, this is awful, when I left to go flying this morning they didn't know anything about the casualty numbers. Eight killed including all onboard, quite a shock as someone who watches the SWP ASU operating every day. It was even more surreal seeing their EC135 still operating in the early afternoon. So the eyewitnesses suggest that there was no engine noise. Twin engine mechanical failure is very unlikely, but by the sound of it both engines were not functioning just before they went in, and there was also no fire at the crash site. Perhaps they were empty for some reason. In any case, looking at the map, it's possible that they were forced to autorotate at low altitude as they flew along the Clyde (they use it as a corridor to return to the heliport) and aimed for the crossroads next to the river. My thoughts were also echoing the fact that it's very lucky they didn't hit the apartment blocks; perhaps that was the best the pilot could do. I hope they're able to get a better picture for the report, although they're saying they don't think the helicopter has an FDR.
