Im very interested in Steam Link. I need testing first though. Hopefully you can use other controllers besides Steam Controller

They actually announced it. Silly cynic me, heh. Now show something while you're at it :p
I hope there's original Source compatibility, or else there'll be a lot of materials and models to convert. And I'd rather not go through that tedious process (should it exist).
if it had full gldsrc and source compatibility that would be a dream playing a modded tf2 where everyone has the portal gun in a hl1 map that's insane and wishful thinking but that would be worth 60$ easy for me
I think that releasing engines like Source 2, Unreal Engine 4, and Unity 5 for free is a really clever move. Not only does it allow developers to create awesome new experiences which help sustain the gaming ecosystem, but it also creates much needed competition in the game engine scene, something we haven't seen in quite a while. It's like the good'ol idTech vs Unreal days all over again. Oh man, oh man, oh man!
"...but enabling gamers themselves to participate in the creation and development of their favorite games,"
Can't wait for the community to create HL3!
With Source 2 on the horizon I think its safe to assume a game reveal at E3.
Will Source 2 have hats though?
..ricochet TWOOOOOO!
With Source 2 on the horizon I think its safe to assume a game reveal at E3.
my money's on Gamescom or some other conference, Valve isn't really happy with the state of E3 last I checked (which was many years ago so they've probably changed their minds)
With Source 2 on the horizon I think its safe to assume a game reveal at E3.
I ment to press optimistic. On mobile. Yeah. I hear you. I hope it comes out the next few weeks. I really want to cook it up
-nvm-
Holy shiiiiiiiiiiiit this is big
...and FP will make a TF2C build before the TF Team can port Hat Simulator 2 over.
Pbr 4k textures dynamic shadows global illumination dynamic refections more optimizations larger maps faster workflow yes yes yes yes yes
To be honest, I'd like a real Ricochet 2. If fleshed out, the game could totally be a neat little $5-10 arena game.
iirc HL3's codename is Ricochet 2
Kinda seems funny how they codename something like HL3 Ricochet 2 but they name "lesser" things with more cryptic names. For instance the Dota 2 workshop tools have a 3 word name every time a new version comes out, and it sounds like a gfycat url :v
SFM 2? Please for the love of God...
Why? The tool was just released. Its not antiquated like the original hammer
Wait, had it not actually been officially announced until now? I've heard so much about it and DOTA's mapping software is based off source 2, so I had assumed Valve had already been spouting off about it a decent amount. Was it actually the case that literally every reference to Source 2 that we'd found until now was just leaks in game code?
I hope there's original Source compatibility, or else there'll be a lot of materials and models to convert. And I'd rather not go through that tedious process (should it exist).
Don't count on it, PBR materials are fairly different to the old rendering styles. It's literally not worth the effort and would likely hold back progress on things that actually matter... like the engine.
Unity and UDK confirmed dead on March 3rd, 2015. Time of death: 4:00PM PST
please. ue4 blows anything in the market out of the water. and this is coming from someone who's worked with source (and goldsrc if that matters) for a almost a decade. i honestly don't know what ~groundbreaking~ features source2 has to offer but i'm almost entirely sure it couldn't be anything like ue4. my team has been using ue4 since it first came out and even when it followed a paid subscription model they had more than 200 video tutorials on every single aspect of the editor. since day one. and kept releasing more and more tutorials every week. now that ue4 is free it includes a marketplace with TONS of resources for people to buy and use. and those who had paid for ue4 before it was free get "free" marketplace money to spend on those assets. in my honest opinion source2 isn't going to be anything like that. let's remember that valve is great at releasing patches that completely break development tools like the 2009 and 2013 updates, not to mention they completely abandoned support for older versions of the engine (the focus right now is only on CS:GO and DOTA).

Source 2 is definitely a huge upgrade for Valve and a new competitor for up-do-date engines, but they've never been good at handing out proper documentation about anything. Remember the SFM tutorial series? Yeah well we've been stuck for 2 years waiting for part 3 of the pose-to-pose animation tutorial.

However, if they're just trying to recreate another, better Source engine then this is different since it'll be a nice boost to the modding community. I guess we'll have to see what direction they take it at this point. It could just be the engine they make their games on and share with the community again.
Cause it's running on Source 1? It makes sense for them to update SFM to Source 2 just like they're doing with Dota 2 and possibly CS:GO.
Well don't expect anything vastly different if it is released, it is a new tool to them as well.
Why? The tool was just released. Its not antiquated like the original hammer
It's a tool used by valve, i don't see why they wouldnt create a source 2 version for their own use and end up releasing it to replace the current SFM release
