I just really really hope the engine can support huge maps.
Well it does support the entirety of Paris in a 1:1 scale, apparently. I don't know whether people ever found out the actual limit though.
Well it does support the entirety of Paris in a 1:1 scale, apparently. I don't know whether people ever found out the actual limit though.
someone compiled a 32 million x 32 million unit map (375 miles x 375 miles)
Well sure that's just bare bare bones. If you were to make it as detailed as a normal game map it either wouldn't, or run like shit
The size is pretty god damn awesome.
someone compiled a 32 million x 32 million unit map (375 miles x 375 miles)
How long did the compile process take for that?
Well sure that's just bare bare bones. Source 2 can handle 375 by 375 mile maps, but can it handle four cosmetics in TF2? I want to believe.
All I want to see is a tf2 port, near pixar quality visuals and built to actually support all the crap that was piled onto a game never supposed to have what it does now A huge boost in players (and $$$$$) would be nice too
I hope for a source2 showcase event soon
Is there any way to watch Valve's GDC talk yet?
near pixar quality visuals
You do realize those movies take like, weeks to render on their huge render farms, right? This doesn't seem particularly feasible for a game to render in real time.
How long did the compile process take for that?
What I'd be interested in would be in what way it handles culling. I'm kind of ignorant in the matter, but I remember that with source 1 you had to pretty much do it all manually with visleaves. With a 140625*miles^2 maps that seems... unreasonable.
Don't think Source 2 uses that stuff. It's no longer BSP maps, right?
yeah pretty sure the bsps were replaced by meshes now.
Did Garry ever say he would remake gmod for source 2? I can't imagine a new source engine without Garry's mod

Sorry, but I need to know more about an engine other than its release date to make those kinds of decisions.

someone compiled a 32 million x 32 million unit map (375 miles x 375 miles)
and if gmod were made on source 2, all 375x375 miles would be filled with spam, half finished cars that barely turn, and sex poses
I'd be hyped as fuck if all active multiplayer IPs got ported. Seeing TF2 get ported would be a godsend knowing they can patch out some of these awful bugs and easily expand the game, same with dota nd CSGO getting some proper fixes and improvements. It would make sense knowing most of those games have had a shortage of major content meaning focus was turned to porting.
L4D2's map design was definitely the weakest part of the whole game. The only campaign I find memorable is Dark Carnival and even then it was still a lot to be desired.
I liked Hard Rain because it seemed like there was a threat other than zombies, it spiced shit up a little with there being rain pouring down and flooding the place.
I liked Hard Rain because it seemed like there was a threat other than zombies, it spiced shit up a little with there being rain pouring down and flooding the place.
I agree it was an okay campaign, the actual map structure was kinda boring though. Imagine what potential Source 2 will bring when it comes to water hazards though.
not if the engine supports streaming
source 2 supports streaming
I'd rather see a Team Fortress 3 instead of a TF2 port to Source 2, imo.
I want a new DoD. And I mean with all new maps and game modes. I'm wishing for a more intricate DoD, with larger maps.
I want a new DoD. And I mean with all new maps and game modes. I'm wishing for a more intricate DoD, with larger maps.
D-Day level with 64v64 teams. Or maybe 132v132 in this day and age.
I want a new DoD. And I mean with all new maps and game modes. I'm wishing for a more intricate DoD, with larger maps.
I'd rather have a Resistance & Liberation reboot on Source 2.
and if gmod were made on source 2, all 375x375 miles would be filled with spam, half finished cars that barely turn, and sex poses
How is that a bad thing
Imagine a Sandbox server that runs smoothly with 100+ players and on a version of flatgrass that's as big as the new limit for source 2 maps.
I'd rather see a Team Fortress 3 instead of a TF2 port to Source 2, imo.
I can't imagine what a third Team Fortress would bring to the table when they could just keep updating TF2.
