As a man who has done musicals all my life, and would major in theatre if I could find a freaking job after graduation, I. HATE. GLEE. They just ruin a lot of what they do. The worst crime of all? The Rocky Horror episode made me seethe with rage.

I fucking hate that show so much. They act like they're all progressive and shit, with the token fat black girl, son of dead veteran stupid jock, sluttly hispanic girl, stupid (also slutty) white girl, overachieving broadway jew, stereotypical gay guy and so on. WOW UNIQUE CHARACTERS, HOW PROGRESSIVE AND POST-RACIAL or w/e bullshit you call it these days.
The vocals on the songs (past the first few episodes) are manipulated to hell, I could sound amazing with the same workover they get.
The plot is always fucking ridiculous and inane.
Oh look, DRAMA - Sue becomes principal - what a gamechanger, surely this will bring new life to the sho- OH WAIT ONE EPISODE LATER THE OTHER GUY IS BACK AND SHE'S IN HER OLD JOB.
It's at a point now they don't even provide a reason why they're singing.

An example of a show that does have diversity - without making each character a 2D caricature - is [i]Community[/i]. Each character is indicative of the social context in which they were likely to have grown up in (for example, the African American woman is deeply Christian, which is realistic) so they don't erase the experiences of each person. Concurrently, they all have distinct personalities beyond their cultural circumstances. Moreover, they actually acknowledge gender roles, ethnic roles, and so on, without glossing over them.

The point of the show must have sailed right over my head because I don't find it charming, witty, funny or inspiring. I mean, it's a musical so you expect it to have some amount of cheese but where other musicals have charm, glee just sucks.
Also, winning awards is meaningless to the quality of a show and besides musicals are usually shit, but this one managed to be even worse than the usual cheesiness of musicals.

While Glee isn't that good, other musicals are fantastic, especially musicals like Les Miserables.
