That sounds unlikely.
Would make for a great movie though.

This describes it in more detail - it could be the work presently being done on the sewer system, or the presence of red tide/algae bloom (I know firsthand that this smells horrible). It probably isn't a huge earthquake, stop being so paranoid.
Wasn't that the thing in New York where it came through the sewers?
Glad i'm near San Diego and not San Francisco ;v
It's a giant ball of garbage.

If it's an Earthquake, ALL the neighborhoods in San Francisco will feel it.
Fault lines aren't these tiny little cracks that only run under one or two streets.
Would be nice if they told us what the fuck it smelled like.
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The KCBS newsroom received calls Friday afternoon reporting an unusual and unpleasant smell in San Francisco.
Most of the callers reporting the odor were in the city's Sunset and Richmond districts.
A city spokesman said the sewage treatment plant didn't report having any problems and that everything appeared to be functioning normally.
A Public Utilities Commission spokesman did say that he smelled something unusual in the Civic Center area.
The stench could also be smelled for a time in the financial district.

I smell Trouble
The only outcome from a earthquake in San Francisco could only be good.

Radon poisoning is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.
I hope not. I'd rather not have my house destroyed.
It's the smell of rotting gangster corpses.
I know what a fault line is. Cracks in the streets are a result of water penetration and asphalt expanding, it has nothing to do with earthquakes.
What I meant was that the recent seismic activity in the San Andreas fault shook up my neighborhood pretty badly. And that was a 6 on the Richter scale. Anything larger would start causing buildings to fall down. And I never said I live in San Francisco. The fault line hits lots of cities in California.
