It's perfectly acceptable to say you are not sure it happened, but you have to, at the very least, admit that the bulk of the scientific data points to the Big Bang being the cause of our universe as we know it.
That's the very essence of science-- you can never be 100% certain.
Seen enough of it in text books and heard it enough from professors.
Because that's what a theory means. That as of the time it's called a theory to our best understandings, it's the closest approximation of the truth. When a singular piece of evidence cannot be incorporated into that theory that theory is no longer taught as the best approximation of truth.
Seen enough of it in text books and heard it enough from professors.
Tomorrow someone could show up with evidence saying that the Earth is actually flat, doesn't mean we shouldn't teach that it's round because we're pretty god damn sure.
Are you guys really discussing the philosophy of science in response to some troll? re: poe's law
Are you guys really discussing the philosophy of science in response to some troll?
I'm killing time before I have to run errands to be honest, why not at the very least I'm understanding how to phrase what I want to say even better.
Theory is a hilariously loose term. Ancient Aliens is a TV show based on theory. Provide fact or don't include it as truth or probable truth.
Theory is a hilariously loose term. Ancient Aliens is a TV show based on theory. Provide fact or don't include it as truth or probable truth.
you're trolling if you think that show is valuing the term theory correctly you posted a source saying explicitly what a theory is but you ignored your own post you're literally only trolling now
Theory is a hilariously loose term. Ancient Aliens is a TV show based on theory. Provide fact or don't include it as truth or probable truth.
Theory is actually a very well defined term. If you want to you read more about it, I found this useful website: http://ncse.com/evolution/education/definitions-fact-theory-law-scientific-work
Golly, I've been figured out. (User was banned for this post ("Trolling" - JohnnyMo1))
Theory is a hilariously loose term. Ancient Aliens is a TV show based on theory. Provide fact or don't include it as truth or probable truth.
The difference is that there is evidence to suggest that what they're saying is false, while the evidence to suggest the truth in theories opposed to what they suggest is mountainous.
Golly, I've been figured out.
It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.
It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.
Jesus Dalai Lama Christ don't admit to it, how is my epeen ever going to grow if heroes like you don't feign inferiority
The difference is that there is evidence to suggest that what they're saying is false, while the evidence to suggest the truth in theories opposed to what they suggest is mountainous.
It's not the same type of theory. The big bang theory is a scientific theory, not like a "I have a theory there's aliens in my attic" type of theory.
Everyone knows the universe was created in 7 days by an old giant white dude who lives on top of clouds
But clouds require atmosphere which means Earth must have existed before the universe, and maybe even God in his pasty bearded glory. Checkmate Atheists!
Golly, I've been figured out. (User was banned for this post ("Trolling" - JohnnyMo1))
I don't even care that this guy was banned....
I can't even comprehend how some people prefer to live in ignorance over knowledge Mortal kombat taught me that
What so wonderful about Science is it's one thing. It's not like religion where it's has different 'genres' Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc etc. And their is also a method to prove what we discover with science. It not like region where someone wrote a book about someone and it may or may not be true. Theres a better way to word all that but I'm frankly to lazy to.
These threads always bring out the idiots who think they're so high and mighty for being atheist.
i dont know why people dont believe in a big bang, from a christian perspective. it makes perfect sense for god to just create a big bang to give him a giant sandbox to play around with (which eventually led to the creation of earth and humanity.) i mean even the catholic church supports the big bang.
catholic church also supports astronomy in general, they have one of the largest bioptic telescopes in the world, dedicated to study the universe. still for some reason people don't trust science here anymore
These threads always bring out the idiots who think they're so high and mighty for being atheist.
Lol the validity of a scientific theory has nothing to do with religious beliefs. Go away.
Doesn't matter what you think, science is true. That's what's great about it.
-Black Science Guy
Proper peer-reviewed science is my God.
Aaaaaaaaaaactually the Big Bang is just a popular cosmological model--a theory, in theory--which, although extremely satisfying in its explanation of the formation of our universe, is not intended to be treated as scientific fact with the relatively scant amount of evidence it has now. Blindly accepting every suggestion a textbook throws at you is just as bad as doing the same with a religious text.
Gravity is a theory BTW
These threads always bring out the idiots who think they're so high and mighty for being atheist.
Uh, what have they done wrong? People come into the thread posting stuff against a theory that they have little understanding over, they argue valid points, and the thread goes on. I don't understand why that makes them idiots.
because they trash on anyone who thinks diffrently than them
And the people who come in here saying the opposite aren't doing the same thing in the other direction?
And the people who come in here saying the opposite aren't doing the same thing in the other direction?
generally a lot of people who do not share the beliefs of the majority stay quiet out of fear of being attacked ridiculously for their beliefs
