CPD basically told him to cancel because of his and everyone else's safety. To hold a rally in such a heated environment would have been absolutely dangerous to everyone present.

Dispersing the people that had gathered there from both sides and deescalating the situation is the best possible thing to do; nothing good would have come from carrying on. There is far more strength in having the intelligence to not escalate the situation than being bull headed and continuing, the people who might be hurt be dammed. If anything, I think this has shown that Trump is not a raving lunatic who wants to encourage violence, because that's exactly what going ahead with the rally would have accomplished, and no, not for Trump.
