Because of diminishing return caused by these greedy fucks, we're going to be paying $100/month more for a mere extra 5mbps by the end of this shit.
using piracy as an excuse for poor service is no excuse for poor service
I have yet to see any throttling; never torrent so I have no idea what people are talking about about poor service. Even Verison's MPLS is good... the EIGRP is EH. [editline]1st March 2014[/editline]
For $63 a month I only get 15 down/2 up. Hooray for shitty little towns.
I don't live in a large city... [editline]1st March 2014[/editline]
Living in a city with Google Fiber is a godsend. Fuck Verizon, Time Warner, AT&T, et cetera
If you think google fiber won't clamp down on shit after they saturate the nation you are too naive
Verizon CEO Can Go Fuck Himself With Rake [editline]e[/editline] I don't think internet providers understand that the fundamental rule of internet usage is that all they should be able to do is offer data caps and speed caps. Monitoring what you do with said data and speed caps and adjusting the price accordingly is invasive and skeevy. What I do with the internet I pay for is my business and unless it's illegal they should not have any right to give a fuck about it.
2014, the year ISP's hit their lower-than-advertised network limits and desperately try to blame anyone else for it This is an issue of infrastructure, but it's not something that they should be charging more for when the fees everyone already pays are supposed to go towards improving that infrastructure to ensure reliable service. I'd like to see what would happen if the government owned ISPs. Or if they were treated more like an utility.
If you think google fiber won't clamp down on shit after they saturate the nation you are too naive
uh except even if they "clamped down" by a massive 10x they'd still be a better deal than verizon? fios: 50mbps @ $50/mo fibre: 1000mbps @ $70/mo you are honestly pretty suspiciously pro-verizon
Yeah fuck you too I'd switch if you weren't my only choice.
I feel sorry for you guys having such asshole providers, and the fact that the US is so huge its hard to have healthy competition everywhere. As much as people like to piss and moan about the UK internet providers, they are worlds better than other places. With the competition here, they have realized that they can't really get away without offering at least one unlimited package, and I have been gaming/downloading/heavily using internet non stop even since we had 56k in 2001ish and never had a single complain from a provider.
I'd only be willing to pay more if my speed was increased too.
for 60/mo this owns I don't see what people are complaining about the article sounds like he wants to stop torrents. If that's the case I understand his reasoning since it is mostly impossible to sort out who is torrenting linux distros and who is torrenting pirated material. Besides most local collages host HTTP mirrors for distros which are fast enough.
I get more than that for less in England [editline]1st March 2014[/editline] We have too much internet here, you can have some if you want.
Just look at this fucker again. [thumb]http://static.businessinsider.com/image/530e4dd2eab8eace76042c83/image.jpg[/thumb] He obviously looks like he's gonna say "where's my fucking money shitlords".
I get more than that for less in England [editline]1st March 2014[/editline] We have too much internet here, you can have some if you want.
We have 100Mbps for 10 dollars, everyone can have some.
“It’s only natural that the heavy users help contribute to the investment to keep the Web healthy,” McAdam explained during the call. “That is the most important concept of net neutrality.” That's not what net neutrality is lol
This sort of shit should be illegal. I feel sorry for you guys.
If you think google fiber won't clamp down on shit after they saturate the nation you are too naive
google fiber will introduce competition you already see it now with isps lobbying against google fiber
uh except even if they "clamped down" by a massive 10x they'd still be a better deal than verizon? fios: 50mbps @ $50/mo fibre: 1000mbps @ $70/mo you are honestly pretty suspiciously pro-verizon
Well you need to realize Google can do those rates because they are monitoring and filtering all your data.
google fiber will introduce competition you already see it now with isps lobbying against google fiber
Google just said fuck it the ROI is worth it, none of your data is private if you are on googles fibre.
25 USD gives you this in Sweden 100/10
I still don't get how they get away with such bullshit. If a Swedish ISP were to introduce bandwith caps on anything but cellphone data, they would go bankrupt within a year. I can't even imagine how fast they would go down if they were to try and force some users to pay more.
25 USD gives you this in Sweden 100/10
Cool when I max out my 50mb/s I may complain to my ISP by my ~40meg upload owns. But if Verizon wants to axe torrents that's fine by me; This ain't the 90's HTTP can work verywell for things.
for 60/mo this owns
Overpaying and letting your ISP lay down more inferior copper infrastructure doesn't own.
Overpaying doesn't own.
60/mo for no ports blocked and this speed owns. Also why are you up so early CCoFP has been ded for a while
I still don't get how they get away with such bullshit. If a Swedish ISP were to introduce bandwith caps on anything but cellphone data, they would go bankrupt within a year. I can't even imagine how fast they would go down if they were to try and force some users to pay more.
Because the major internet companies don't really compete. They figured out that the best way to make money, was for them to all set high prices for sub-par service, that way a potential customer has to pick one of them. Speaking of choices, most rural areas only have 1-2 ISP's to choose from, and generally they're 2 sides of the same coin. Cities have more options and better service, but still not on-par with what you find in Europe.
Overpaying and letting your ISP lay down more inferior copper infrastructure doesn't own.
Yo I have direct Fibre copper is fine if you aren't running 10Gb/s; in 10Gb/s you get some added latency because of voltages but you should git gud on how TCP/IP works. Get ur N+ bro.
25 USD gives you this in Sweden 100/10
In brazil; 50 reais gives you..uh... 10 Mbps and constantly down times and crashes... fuck...
Hey Verizon, when you stop exploiting the fuck out of income tax loopholes you can bitch about bandwidth usage. Until then, shut it.
Why can't I hold all of this net neutrallity. But in all seriousness why hasn't the FCC or anybody else stepped in yet?
Why can't I hold all of this net neutrallity. But in all seriousness why hasn't the FCC or anybody else stepped in yet?
Probably because nothing's been done yet.
Verizon's price structure is goddamn retarded. They want $75/mo 7-15 mbps down. Brighthouse charges $55ish for 30mbps down. Get your shit together Verizon.
So let me get this straight, they tried this bullshit with Netflix, they got called out, and the lawmakers weren't too happy and they were told to stop. Now he wants to do this with us? Isn't that sort of a step backwards? with Netflix it would of been a middleman between us and the terrible, but now it's just the terrible coming directly to us, and pissing us off.
I don't live in a large city...
I never said you did, I said I lived in a shitty small town. There are good small towns, and there are shitty small towns.
In brazil; 50 reais gives you..uh... 10 Mbps and constantly down times and crashes... fuck...
That explains a lot of things about league of legends :v: [sp]I know that feel bro, I live on an island and our internet only just recently improved a little but it's still constantly down[/sp]
This is like charging extra money for water but only to those who plan on drinking it.
In brazil; 50 reais gives you..uh... 10 Mbps and constantly down times and crashes... fuck...
honestly this depends on where you live, and which ISP you have, i pay 90 reais(about 40USD) for 20mb and my connection is (mostly) stable. but yeah, our net is more often than not, extremely shitty.
