It's parody and that's covered under "fair use", they legally can't do this and that's all there is to it.
Even if you think it's unfunny people have the rite to make these sorts of things, and I'll be willing to bet money that this boosted the movie's sales.

Parodies have to make comment on the original scene. Most of the videos don't.

From what I can tell the EU Copyright directive says nothing about fair use, so they're in their right to take this down, seeing as it was made by a german company.

People will find another host for them, Youtube isn't the only one. Sure it's the biggest one but uploading one video to another site doesn'tmean you can't use Youtube anymore.
I would do the same if I made a serious movie like Downfall and in the end only have the tone of it be totally ruined by people who think they are comedic geniuses. Save for the few really good ones.

They're one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) German movie publishing company. Everyone who would actually buy their DVDs already knows about that.
I don't know why YouTube complied with the requests, considering it's based in the US. If they blocked it for German users, I'd understand that, because as far as I know there's no "fair use" regulations in Germany. Or at least they're not as important as they are in the US.
I don't know if American laws apply to German productions though so this might have made sense.

The title says the meme died, but I'm getting more of the impression that it was killed. Youtube is becoming more and more like a strict teacher; "Oh my god, they're having fun with something! BAN IT BAN IT BAN IT!!" They're becoming more and more unworthy of my respect as well.
