You have no idea how sensitive most Germans are to this topic. Germans are being nazis about being nazis.
more like, they are so ashamed of him that they cringe by the very thought of him. some still feel they've got the world on their shoulders and has to fix it even though it's past. believe it or not, but all those retarded rules they make now isn't to become nazis once again, but because they fear that their youth might become Nazis from violent games, media and other shit. they feel that they're the people who has the least right to unconditional rights and they regulate as such. not to mention that they HAVE to live up to certain standards and limitations set on them by the rest of the world. these guys fight a fucking war to stay cuddly and innocent and they're doing quite well even though those last few anti-media rules have been steps too far. imagine having to keep freedom in a country notorious for starting pointless wars while still proving to the rest of the world that you won't stab them in the back this time. the aussies on the other hand are fucking idiots unless they plan to return to their roots as an international gigaprison.
The title says the meme died, but I'm getting more of the impression that it was killed. Youtube is becoming more and more like a strict teacher; "Oh my god, they're having fun with something! BAN IT BAN IT BAN IT!!" They're becoming more and more unworthy of my respect as well.
it was worn out anyway, and 80% of educated europeans (read: out of kindergarden) were bored to shits not to mention banged their heads at walls when they see subtitles reading: "i trusted them and they fucked me over, my faith in microsoft can never be restored" when he is saying something along the lines "but still, the people has faith in us, we MUST stand strong" or whatever. Point: it's worn out and was hilarious the first few times until the subtitles barely attempted to match when he spoke and didn't. OH GAWD! automerge has failed me... or i failed automerge...
Jewish organizations have also complained about the tastefulness of the clips, he said.
Freedom of expression?
I don't think that this meme is going to go away. I mean downfall is how the internet says "we got bad news".
oh no they pulled the popular ones that means no one is ever going to post another
I'd never heard of this film before I watched one of these parodies. I'm sure many are in the same position. The film's developers are getting free publicity and they want it taken down?
Freedom of expression?
Well that's a problem they can take up with the actual movie itself, the internet got nothing to do with it. [editline]12:52PM[/editline]
I'd never heard of this film before I watched one of these parodies. I'm sure many are in the same position.
good. it's not funny reading "how can FFXIII fuck up so bad" when you HEAR "THAT WAS A GODDAMN ORDER!" next time, use kim jong Il. no one has any idea what he's saying.
Well obviously it's going to be disorienting if you understand German. It's not being able to understand him that makes it funny.
Well obviously it's going to be disorienting if you understand German. It's not being able to understand him that makes it funny.
that's why i proposed Kim Jong Il. the chances of a free, unhindered Korean comprehending individual to see those would be near the same as 2012. (not counting free Koreans since i have no realistic ideas about south Korea an all that jazz)
Good, the Hitler meme was fucking retarded. It was never funny.
Good times man. This is the best one ever made.
Good, the Hitler meme was fucking retarded. It was never funny.
First they came for the meme submitters, I did not speak out, because I didn't make Downfall videos ... [editline]06:15PM[/editline]
Hitler is not a cartoon character.
I beg to differ. It's been over 70 years since WW2; he has been reduced to a cartoon character in most media for all intents and purposes now.
Good, Meme's are stupid anyways.
I beg to differ. It's been over 70 years since WW2; he has been reduced to a cartoon character in most media for all intents and purposes now.
not yet, though it's on its way. in no way would a portrayal of hitler in the same style as Team Americas Kim Jong Il go unpunished by the world. a lot of sensitivity is still centered about this man and his charms. i've seen scores of Nazi zombies, Sci-Fi Nazis and such, but only ONE full-on ridiculous parody popular Hitler and that was the Wolfenstein Hitler.
I'm not sad to see them go. They were funny the first 70 times.
but only ONE full-on ridiculous parody popular Hitler and that was the Wolfenstein Hitler.
What about that?
Good, Meme's are stupid anyways.
:bandwagon:
I don't see how I sounded bigoted, it's just an opinion that has absolutely nothing to do with race. Hell, I didn't even mention anything about religion! Just like I said before, you can't say anything bad about the jew community without having people labeling you as a Fucking Nazi :/ Anyway, I'm out of this thread
I don't see how I sounded bigoted, it's just an opinion that has absolutely nothing to do with religion. Hell, I didn't even mention anything about race! Just like I said before, you can't say anything bad about the black community without having people labeling you as a Fucking KKK member. Anyway, you're fucking retarded. (User was banned for this post ("Flaming" - verynicelady))
What about that?
i don't know if you realize it, but that wasn't just a clowns act for fun. it had a very serious idea behind it and i don't know if you noticed, but Chaplin was destroyed and forgotten in either Europe or in America but lauded in the other... in other words, THAT piece of fantastic art and hilarious movie struck a nerve somewhere. the better side of that move and why i'm ready to marry chaplin were he not a man and dead.
When interviewed about this film being on such a touchy subject, Charlie Chaplin had only this to say: "Half-way through making The Great Dictator I began receiving alarming messages from United Artists ... but I was determined to go ahead, for Hitler must be laughed at." The documentary The Tramp and The Dictator provides audio of a 1983 interview with Chaplin associate Dan James, in which he reports that President Franklin D. Roosevelt sent his adviser Harry Hopkins to personally meet with Chaplin and encourage him to move ahead with the film. According to The Tramp and the Dictator, the film was not only sent to Hitler, but an eyewitness confirmed he saw it.[1] According to the Internet Movie Database, Chaplin, after being told Hitler saw the movie, replied: "I'd give anything to know what he thought of it."[8] Hitler's response is not recorded but he is said to have viewed the film twice.
EDIT: seems i was a bit fast on the love/hate thing. i can't find any proof on it except my shaky memory and mentions of smaller groups being against it for the comical portrait of a serious taboo.
Hitlerrantsparodies still pushes out nearly 5 a week. It's not dead.
Oliver Hirschbiegel (director of Downfall) was on British radio yesterday, he said he thought some of the parodies were very funny and he seemed quite laid back over this happening to his work. It's the distributors of the film that are making a fuss over copyright. Oliver Hirschbiegel said this is just what happens, and that he thought it was good to deal with situations by laughing at them.
The loss was felt across the Web on Wednesday as if a grand, beloved tradition had been stifled.
If only they knew...
It's parody and that's covered under "fair use", they legally can't do this and that's all there is to it. Even if you think it's unfunny people have the rite to make these sorts of things, and I'll be willing to bet money that this boosted the movie's sales.
You guys seem to be missing the part where youtube can take down whatever the fuck they want to because it's their website in the first place. I guarantee that their TOS says something to that effect, so everyone crying about "fair use" is dumb. Not that I think it's right for them to take the videos down, but that's the way the world works.
If youtube looses popularity in a few years, I will not be surprised by the way things are going.
Even the director liked the clips.
Well fuck, there goes my plan for a parody.
Well fuck, there goes my plan for a parody.
just up it to dailymotion instead
Youtube: Allowing the media to shit all over Fair Use laws since whenever
Fuck those ungrateful little cunts. Do they know how much free fucking publicity that gave their shittyass movie?
