Microsoft Will Not Support Upcoming Processors Except On Windows 10
I don't want any of that from the sound of it (I don't think it will be 2x faster than 7 for example)
The biggest reason is that I am afraid that whatever software I use will be incompatible with it. I've also heard lots of people going "I couldn't even install it because drivers and stuff"
For the most part, if the software you run is compatible with Vista or newer, your not going to see any issues unless you run some really niche software. Or badly coded software that was hacked together.
Drivers and stuff are a crapshoot as its going to depend on your hardware, and not really a fault of the OS itself. Vista or newer drivers will work mostly OK with 10, with varying levels of functionality. Some installers will bitch, but that's why you run them in compatibility mode to trick them into you running 7 or something. And a lot of older hardware have the drivers baked in to 10 already (my 2006 laptop had all of its drivers, except the SD card reader). If your hardware is new enough to have 8 drivers, I can almost guarantee you'll be fine.
Ah, forgot the most important argument: I don't care enough to wait for the upgrade to complete :v:

Takes about 30 minutes tops. :v:

very long if you keep forgetting to do it when you're done using your computer :v:

I'll give you that.
At this point we shoud change the OS and go to the competition
but.. theres none
I switched one of my computers to Arch Linux. Working on my desktop right now.
I'm getting some serious OS X vibes here....
Yep I'm thinking of my next computer being a Mac book pro Windows is going to shit real fast with all the bloat ware and now this shit.
I fucking hate this argument so much
Why aren't people still using horses to get around? "If it's not broken, don't fix it"!
Oh wait, it's because cars and bikes are better in every single way
When MS (or any other company) makes a new OS, they're not trying to "fix" the old one, they're improving on it
well, no, because horses are a fundamentally broken method of travel, and we don't want our streets to literally be covered in animal shit
it's also a massive improvement VS w7 to w10 isn't really too massive of a leap
w7 to w10 is a massive leap
in performance, capability, power, security, and more.
At this point we shoud change the OS and go to the competition

Linux, man
For everything but gaming it's objectively better
w7 to w10 is a massive leap

Yeah, backwards.
Yeah, backwards.
how can you actually say w7 is more secure and is faster than w10

i dont believe you
Even though I have windows 7 and 8.1 I STILL bought windows 10 simply because it's less of a headache to reformat on a clean slate
and yet I still believe it was worth it.
that being said, I mean, free upgrade yeah but they are being pretty forceful, no? It's no wonder people are annoyed. Comfort in your computer gives you confidence, and like, if it isn't broken, why fix it?
At least we won't see the XP effect, and this will all pass when everyone has been assimilated.
But... You can reformat after upgrading to win 10?
Linux, man
For everything but gaming it's objectively better
Until you need to install flash...or run a specific java version...or type a MS office doc for work... or cisco vpn... or need properly working ACPI controls... WLAN drivers that work properly on new HW... etc
I can tell you that no Linux is not objectively better at everything aside from gaming, if it were then people would just dual boot; which is a complete 100% free option that you can do! However, no one does it because the small shit that 90% of users don't think about just being a simple click or already done is a manual/requires setup thing on linux.

You can but win7 keys don't work so you have to install 7 first then upgrade
even if i look past all the botnet stuff, w10 is just too gimped for me to have it as a main operating system
tablet to watch movies on? sure.. but everything is just hidden behind smiley menus and making the user experience as "painless" as possible
i want to see all the error codes and debug info, no two colored settings menu, the metro settings in windows 8 is bad as it is, i avoid going there at all costs, but there's some stuff that's forcefully moved in there
To be fair, this isn't totally a terrible decision.
The idea with Windows 10 is that, going forward, updates will be more like service packs and less like total overhauls. If Windows 10 is going to be the last version of Windows, then getting everybody on board as soon as possible is the best thing you can do.
They're kind of being dicks about it, but their logic is solid.
For daily activity I use Android master race anyway

You can but win7 keys don't work so you have to install 7 first then upgrade
Pretty sure they do now. I reformatted a few weeks ago and used my w8 key.
You gotta use a recent ISO image.
Yeah man, they're dropping support for most likely the most used version of Windows that is also the best to run every types of games without compatibility issues, those literal fucking nazis!!!!
They're not exactly 'dropping' support. They're just not adding new features to the 7 year old OS. If you're buying a new skylake cpu, chances are it's a whole new build. Sooo, install the new OS on the new computer??

Windows 8 keys work fine, win 7 do not
why are they pushing windows 10 this much?
Isn't Windows 10 the one with tons of surveillance tech?
Isn't Windows 10 the one with tons of surveillance tech?
'Tons of surveillance tech', lol. They're not collecting any more data than google or facebook or any of these big other companies have been doing for years and almost all of it can be turned off.
Isn't Windows 10 the one with tons of surveillance tech?
Analytics.

I'd just be happy if they got rid of the Bing ad ware and bloat ware. That's the only stuff I dislike.
Isn't Windows 10 the one with tons of surveillance tech?
I hope you don't
use any google funded browser Chrome or firefox, or privately funded browser outside opera
use any hosted mail source yahoo, gmail, live, etc
use any search engine aside from shit ones like DDG which still is questionable
use any credit card ever
sign up for any special offers anywhere for anything such as free appitizers at a resturant or store value card
Data mining has been going on for before most of FP was born, if you are honestly just now concerned about it then you are about 60 years late

so you're using a subsidized version of the os(which i don't even think windows 10 has) and want no ads

"<bad thing> isn't bad, it's always been that way!"
Apart from that, I can control what information I give those applications. I can't control what information I give my operating system.
