I think the Japanese have an effective strategy. They cover the intruder wasps and beat their wings to create heat and carbon dioxide to kill them.
As for bumble bees
Yeah, people say that and then turn around and make fun of me when my arachnophobia triggers on a "harmless" house spider.
Well the majority of house spiders are effectively harmless.
Unless you're in the land down under.
This has literally spoiled my day, damn nature you scary.

Or he lives in an area where the black widow spider, brown recluse spider, or other poisonous american spider species live. But other then that, most house spiders are harmless.

that is literally the point of his statement, people will say 'oh it's not irrational' about something then dismiss him for his irrational trigger because it's not rational
They're not much shorter than us on average. It's also not unknown for some of them to reach the height of basketball players.
wait what? the chinese, or THE WASPS?

I know I'm supposed to be getting this... but I'm not.
Christ that's scary.
And that's another reason why wasps are hellspawn.
The Red footed cannibalfly kills and eat wasps, they're from the US, you americans are safe from the evil wasps :v:

The solution is entomovore bats. Shittonne of hungry bats.
They'll probably end up in the US the same way stink bugs did
I know I'm supposed to be getting this... but I'm not.
Basically people will say that it's a rational response to be scared of something like a wasp or hornet, and then will later make fun of me for having arachnophobia and having it trigger on something that's about as threatening as a couple of small wasps buzzing around - such as an ordinary house spider or even a semi-accurate virtual representation. Like the giant spiders in Skyrim, which trigger the fuck out of my phobia.
I'm not saying you are or were, but it just kinda irks me when people say "Oh, it's not irrational to be scared of X" and then make fun of me being scared of spiders.
Also I do actually live in both brown recluse and black widow territory, and I've seen both in and around my house.
The people who die from these stings are mostly allergic or they were stung a ton of times.
But yeah these hornets are horrible (OP says wasps but the article says they are Asian giant hornets.)
However, the picture in OP is just ridiculous, Asian giant hornets are big, but that looks like that picture is cherry picking the fucking largest dead samples or something.

still pretty big I don't think a lot of them are as big as the ones in OP's picture.
I am scared
imagine what it would feel like to try and stomp one

I guess its confusing for me because I know which are dangerously venomous and which aren't. A cobweb spider or a daddy longleg don't do much for me, but seeing a brown recluse, black widow, or something like a golden orb weaver will make me freeze in my tracks and asses the situation before proceeding.
In short, I guess I simply don't understand because I don't have arachnophobia.

Armor deflects your foot and it flies up your pants leg going for your dick.
edit:
Also I can't find a solid lead on what kind of hornet these things were. Article says Asian Giant Hornets, but they sure as hell don't look like em in that picture unless those are torched corpses.
Horrifying
Holy shit fuck this fuck that fuck everything.
Imagine one hitting your windshield oh god
I just got over my teeny tiny european wasp fear goddamnit
Wasp family OP, plz nerf. I'd carry around a tennis racket and go fucking crazy
arachnophobia is also a thing though
it's the fear to an irrational level,so maybe he wigs out hardcore when he comes across normal wasps and this would just give him a heart attack
Even as an arachnophobe, some of the pictures in this thread nearly gave me a heart attack because my brain seems to get confused between spiders and every other small creature on the planet.
these aren't wasps are they? i thought wasps were sorta like bees and pollinated shit. hornets are predators and pure terror.
Reminds me of those fuckin annoying boat flies in fallout 3

I've honestly got a bit of carryover as well. Creepy crawlies in general tend to get me. Spiders are just the biggest trigger I've got.

The thing is, most people who are scared out of wasps, are scared of them because they aren't harmless, but they have an allergy. On top of that even bumblees can bite and often and that's not even mentioning how aggressive wasps or hornets can be. Another thing to consider is, that where is one, there's usually five more around. So yes a phobia of winged, hive based, stinging insects is not as irrational as one of spiders.
And quite a lot of people do die to the common honeybee everywhere year. Not to even mention the more aggressive african hybrid species.
Now being concerned about a number of spider species is soemthing else entirely.
Spiders on the other hand are largely harmless to us everywhere in the world.
hi
Jesus christ, start building the Jaegers! We need a way to defend ourselves against those giant monsters.
I think the Japanese have an effective strategy. They cover the intruder wasps and beat their wings to create heat and carbon dioxide to kill them.
fun fact: when those bees do that, they get incredibly close to a horrible suffocating melty death from the heat generated by their wings
