You didn't answer me--why do you think the law should uphold Christian values? I thought you were an atheist.
I am, and I don't think it should uphold Christian values. Are you trying to say that covering your sexual parts is purely a Christian idea? Don't argue that they're not sexually oriented body parts, especially in our society.
Also, it's legal for a woman to go topless here. Nobody should be able to force them however.

Well, in the ancient pre-christian west covering up breasts was not common. Also, they're not even sexual, you cannot reproduce with mammary glands.
Consider the ancient greek cultures, and even the romans pre-constantine.
Good, about time people other than white people were discriminated.

I didn't say they were part of the reproductive system, I said they were part of sexuality.

Why not? They're only "sexually oriented parts" because the Christian value system says they should be covered.
For someone who sees himself as a free thinker you seem to have an awfully poor grasp of how your own society influences your opinions.
Of course not. America was created with Judo-Christian ideals
Treaty of Tripoli. No it wasn't.
edit: Worth lateposting to point out how wrong you were.
So our laws should enforce Christian Puritan values?
our laws should allow people who are not ethnic minorities not to be discriminated, i can honestly say, that white people are being discriminated more than any other culture. Banning publick holidays because they are only celebrated by white people, yet giving tax payers money to other cultures to celebrate their holidays; stopping training exercises for police because the 20 people who all signed up were all white, i mean, come on now.
Why not? They're only "sexually oriented parts" because the Christian value system says they should be covered.
No, they're sexual because when I and a majority of other people including lesbians, see them, we get a boner or lubricate, whatever the case may be.
I dunno about you, but any girl I've been with has been aroused when they're touched/squeezed/licked, because it feels good in a sexual manner.

Which doesn't happen in countries where they aren't taboo.
How could that be? Maybe your thoughts are influenced by the religious mores of the culture in which you live?
Oh wait I forgot you are a rational atheist-bot who doesn't succumb to sheeple groupthink!
They've got the right idea
I dunno about you, but any girl I've been with has been aroused when they're touched/squeezed/licked, because it feels good in a sexual manner.
But that's because of the context. I'm pretty sure your genitals being fondled in the bedroom by a girl you're attracted to, and them getting fondled by some random person on the street will not feel the same t you.

Are you telling me muslim women are aroused when someone looks at/touches their head and offended and violated if it's seen by a person they're not intimately involved with?

Why shouldn't he be allowed to say his bit on the article and not our conversation about it?

What the fuck does that have to do with anything? Stop attacking people directly.
Are you telling me muslim women are aroused when someone looks at/touches their head and offended and violated if it's seen by a person they're not intimately involved with?
maybe. Sexuality (not sexual orientation, mind you) is heavily influenced by culture.

Often muslim women see wearing the hijab as a way of avoiding unwanted male attention, so in a way yes.
This article covers both sides in a more... rational manner than facepunch:

Those head garbs certainly grab my attention in a society where a majority of women don't wear them.
Those head garbs certainly grab my attention in a society where a majority of women don't wear them.
Male attention meaning not general attention.
To put it bluntly, are you less sexually attracted to someone wearing a headscarf?

I would say pre-Augustus. Augustus promoted family values. That's why he hated Ovid and his erotic writings.
Then again, a lot of Roman emperors were either gay or bi...

Not necessarily. It may throw me off because of my bias involving religion, but that doesn't mean I don't find a girl wearing one to be attractive, especially depending on the rest of her attire.

Regardless, that's a large part of the thinking behind it. And it doesn't hurt anyone else, you appear to not find it too offputting, so where's the harm?

I don't care if she wears the damn thing in her own time, but not when someone is paying her to work for them and abide by a code EVERYONE ELSE has to abide by. Why shouldn't a doctor be allowed to wear a pirate hat?
dammit malumbre stop trying to justify you looking down on anyone who has any sort of religious beliefs
you're an atheist and you're very very proud of that, we get it. give it up

This has nothing to do with my being atheist.
This has nothing to do with my being atheist.
if it had nothing to do with you being atheist, you wouldn't mention the fact that you're an atheist in ever other post

Hey, I have an idea, how about you bring up a valid point instead of attacking everyone's ideas based on how you feel about them? Show me all the posts I've specifically mentioned that I was an atheist, where it didn't apply to the post somehow.
I'm going to dismiss all your posts because you have a fucking ugly avatar.

Accommodate one person's silly request and you'll have to start accommodating everyone. Where do you draw the line?
Only if they ban all forms of headwear in the work place.
Then it's understandable. Otherwise it's cultural intolerance, and a lawsuit should be filed.
