ganges being dirty is common knowledge lol
a billion people find the river to be sacred what do you expect?
people here are very naive as to what reality really is, cultures change vastly. You won't find imbecile yobbos going "uwotmate" in asia.
Furthermore, it's a very dense country, most people who have never been to a non-western country won't be able to handle it.
Not even sure why would anyone want to go to India. There is plenty of other much safer places to see around the world.
like america yeye
basically, if you want to go to any foreign country, arm yourself with a big hefty stick.
However, let's not start generalizing an entire country. Yes, it has it's problems, but all nations do in that respect.

I just want to say, there are a lot of places in China that are just the same. Don’t use the same air of superiority that Hong Kong and Taiwan people have when they look at mainlanders to look at India. I don’t like it.
Get rekt.
I actually doubt there are places in China where bodies are dumped into the river.
Bodies pushed into the Ganges river isn't because the people are lazy or dirty, it's due to religious beliefs. Judging the entire whole India because of those images is wrong. But eh, I do agree that it's a place I'd rather not visit (that River).
However, let's not start generalizing an entire country. Yes, it has it's problems, but all nations do in that respect.
Yeah I often see dead corpses floating by the river of my town and I poop on my neighbor's doorstep, nothing out of the ordinary.
The comments are almost as bad as the pictures.

All this is easy to fix, just use violence. China uses the hukou system to keep the poor population from settling in cities, and then uses chengguan to beat the rabble to death. The cities will then look very nice.
welp

That actually looks cool, I would go there, although I would be wearing a damn Hazmat suit.
Do you, or have you lived in india.
I currently live in India and am, by nationality, an Indian. I'd be making a safe guess in assuming that I'm one of the majority of Indian males that do not go out and rape people.
It's interesting how a conversation that could be discussing a serious issue of the results of sexual repression in a conservative culture has then led to a generalized bashing of a country with the key buzzwords being (as usual) that chinasmack article on the state of the Ganges river and on "caste".

I wouldn't blame anyone for it, but it makes me sad - I've been witnessing this on the worldnews sub of Reddit as well and it's been a pretty bad day. If I can get any further news as it reaches the Indian media, I'll post it here.
But some stuff to consider when coming here, for whoever still wants to - India is the biggest mindfuck you will ever witness and you will witness extremes of everything, often sitting right alongside each other.

Until then stop visiting India because it's an archaic shithole.
Rape is only one shit part of this country. It's an overpopulated abysmal land of poverty, social inequalities and filled with shit you'd expect to see in the dark ages.

A taser or handgun ain't gonna be much good if you get jumped by 8 people, sadly.

But you know what, carry on - I'm sure you'll reply with pictures to prove your point as well. As I said before, it's a nation of extremes so if any of you do want to visit (if you haven't condemned us all) then I hope you enjoy what you set out to look for in this country - whether it be validation of the poverty that grips it, or the beauty that it possesses despite it's problems.
EDIT Wanted to add this too, it's the prettiest thing I ever saw involving India.

You could get good looking pictures of any country, regardless of how shithole it is, so yea
or standards of education and living increase, am i the only gutless weak liberal here
You are not wrong - unfortunately, the big problem is the strongly misogynistic nature amongst several Indian men owing to a mostly patriarchal society (there are exceptions to this in the South of India where things are quite different, for instance, the state of Kerala where I'm from).
Attitudes are beginning to change, but only in the cities, and slowly at that - it'll be several generations before villagers learn to stop treating their women like cattle or property but as equal human beings.

Precisely - but condemning it based on a generalization would be as bizarre to me as it would be for me to declare the US a place full of redneck cowboys where I was most likely to get shot or lynched and strung up on a tree, and therefore a terrible country to visit. I accept that not every American possesses a gun, the likelihood of me getting shot is relatively low and on the whole, like Americans and have generally favorable experiences when I met them. Hell, one of my best friends is an American.

From one of the comments in response to someone saying how Chinese police keep the poor out of their cities:
Actually, this is exactly how America does it, using violence to beat the Indians [Native Americans] to death, pushing the Asian, African, and poor out into the country, running the poor white people into the surrounding outskirts of the cities. America’s police are even more terrible than China’s chengguan. If you’re within two meters of a police officer, you have to raise your hands, otherwise American police have the right to shoot you dead.
sounds about right
not going to happen unless you are able to carry a handgun or taser where ever you may go.
Carrying a weapon isn't going to stop rape, it's going to potentially prevent you being raped. Someone will still get raped. Teach people not to rape, don't teach potential victims how not to get raped.
how about
people stop raping people
go tell that to those rapists, im sure they will be all ears.

As for things that could hardly be captured in pictures, you've got the extremely archaic society (women who are either killed for being raped or have to marry their rapist, arranged marriages, etc), the terrible road security with constant death because driving in India is the same as holding the barrel of a loaded gun against your forehead, the massive inequality making slums grow right in front of huge financial buildings, the utter lack of education, huge crime rates, etc.
I cannot think of another place in the world where there are hundreds of dead and decaying bodies in a river that thousands use to bathe and drink from.
Maybe North Korea. And that says a lot.
