when did this forum turn into /int/
When it went online.
We shouldn't be generalising the whole country. There are some really beautiful places there and the people can be very welcoming. But I think tourists should be smarter. And not tent in the middle of fucking nowhere.
Yeah I tented in the middle of the african congo and I ended up with malaria, then was almost murdered by a marauding warband. Not my fault please pity me.
Yeah I tented in the middle of the african congo and I ended up with malaria, then was almost murdered by a marauding warband. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madhya_Pradesh The place she was cycling in is an area almost 120,000 square miles of varying conditions. They were on their way to the fucking Taj Mahal (i hope you know what that is) when they were attacked. Your analogy is bullshit, India is just a little bit different from the Congo.
Yeah and dumping hundreds of bodies in a river that thousands or more bathe and drink from is just a way of life. Us silly first world people just can't understand.
Where the hell else are the extremely poor going to put their dead? The cities in which these slums reside are massive, almost every square inch is inhabited and they dont have cars or trucks to move the bodies outside the city. They are either going to rot by the roads or rot in the ganges. Im not excusing the principle, but this is what you have to expect in the given conditions.

The reason they send the bodies on the Ganges is because of the belief that by doing so, they are absolved of all sins they have committed in the afterlife. Think of it as you would with elephants and communal graveyards. The devout Hindu's last wishes while their bodies are still able to do so is to travel to Benares before they die so that this could be done, if they carry with them a great burden (death of someone on their conscience, for instance) that they want absolution for. It may not always happen, but if it can be done it will be done.
My parents want to go there for a month and drag my lil' sis and lil' brother with them. I'll show them this, and the rape stuff, fuck India, shit tier shithole.
I volunteered in Nepal for five months, which is similiar to India. Sure there were some fucked up places and I saw some bad shit, but at the same time I saw a lot of beauty and met a lot of interesting people. You can't just take everything bad about a country and then form your opinion on that. Not to mention that people need to take themselves out of their comfort zone more often and experience new things. It helps change your perspective on a lot of things for better or worse. Its also great to show children how different the world is so they learn to appreciate what they have more.
Regardless of the country, the men responsible are scum of the Earth and deserve to rot in prison for the rest of their lives.
Only view this if you have a strong stomach http://www.chinasmack.com/2010/pictures/filthy-india-photos-chinese-netizen-reactions.html
What the heck is up with all the corpses in the water? Christ, I have enough issues with a pond, if I were there I'd die of thirst. And bathing in the same water with probably hundreds of rotting corpses.. All of a sudden, I'm 100% more thankful about where I live.
lets hate an entire country because of the criminals and suppar living conditions. lets also hate africa and every other country like that because thats not fucking awful at all.
Yeah I tented in the middle of the african congo and I ended up with malaria, then was almost murdered by a marauding warband. It really depends on which part of India. Best to avoid those tribal and impoverished areas. Their government are too corrupt and the people are suffering because of it. [editline]18th March 2013[/editline] They really need to get their shit together (no pun intended)
http://www.rainn.org/get-information/statistics/frequency-of-sexual-assault Point being you guys are somewhat narrow minded.
http://www.rainn.org/get-information/statistics/frequency-of-sexual-assault Point being you guys are somewhat narrow minded.
From what I can guess is that the reason why India has become the center of the news for rape cases is likely because the people had enough of these cases being swept under the carpet by their own officials. The high-profile of the Delhi rape case that have gained international attention may have help bringing such cases to light easier.
Update: 6 men have been arrested and confessed. Lets hope they don't get off lightly.
Update: 6 men have been arrested and confessed. Lets hope they don't get off lightly.
They won't. They'll either a) die in police custody during "interrogation" (common for dacoits found in the area near Chambal valley where this incident occured), or b) They'll be found to be the henchman of some local politician with clout (politicians frequently keep a market for goons like this to be extras during their functions (and thus fluff up attendance numbers), to bully farmers, to forcibly take over land, to "convince" villagers to vote for them, etc.) and in which case they'll be either given a slap on the wrist or they'll be "taken care of"(see option a) so they're not traced back to said politician. Any way it plays out, rest assured it won't be pleasant for them at all.
Wow the ignorance on the first page actually astounded me. I've been to India multiple times, of course I'm Sikh I'm normally in the state of Punjab. I can tell you from experience there are ALOT of safe, and beautiful sights in India to be in. If you're backpacking around the country though, then yes there are dangerous parts, especially for women. There's a billion fucking people, there will be slums and absolute filthy places in a third world country such as that. I can ensure you though if you went to Punjab you wouldn't see any of of this... at least not as commonly as some of you seem to think.
again, where is the direct evidence that he's lived and breathed that culture. He sums up the country with a few images of poverty. It's pathetic. hey African culture is just malnourished children and malaria.
this is prolly late but the issue isnt so much culture as it is living conditions and in black africa ye its starvation and illness.
I currently live in India and am, by nationality, an Indian. I'd be making a safe guess in assuming that I'm one of the majority of Indian males that do not go out and rape people. It's interesting how a conversation that could be discussing a serious issue of the results of sexual repression in a conservative culture has then led to a generalized bashing of a country with the key buzzwords being (as usual) that chinasmack article on the state of the Ganges river and on "caste".
Take a page from my book and ironically rename your account "Dirty Impoverished Indian." It's the ultimate form of passive protest against the ravages of national stereotyping! [editline]18th March 2013[/editline] Take that, Facepunch posters!
