I'm currently looking for what I saw, it was a letter asking for Gordon's employment and some wiki had a time line of events [editline]04:00PM[/editline] http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_the_Half-Life_series
Odd I rely on this link: http://www.members.shaw.ca/halflifestory/timeline.htm But to each man his own.
I'm always annoyed when an extra 's' is added to a title. It's Opposing Force. You don't say Silent Hills, Iron Mans or Calls of Duties Modern Warfares 2's!
I haven't read it but DAMN I loved Opposing Force
It wasn't so much a retrospective so much as bashing the game for inconsistencies that weren't even there and putting forth retarded opinion.
Another thing in a half life game saying Gordon is new: From Decay
Of course he's new, but it's not his first day.
which is made by gearbox
Didn't Valve say the expansions are/might be canon?
Fuck fighting the combine. This is Opposing Force. I want Shepard to be sold by Gman to the Combine and in a Combine uniform shooting at rebels, that way we can get back story on the Combine.
Didn't Valve say the expansions are/might be canon?
if I remember right, back a few years ago when i emailed marc laidlaw, he said they weren't official, that they were just gearbox doing whatever they wanted. [editline]11:01PM[/editline] for opposing force that is, but the same is probably true for decay
And calling it "Opposing Forces" ruins its meaning. It's Opposing Force because that's the side you're playing as in this game. I never got how people always messed that up. Same with "Game Boy Advanced".
Well, I'd say "Opposing Forces" is more forgivable. The title is derived from Newton's third law of motion:
Whenever a first body exerts a force F on a second body, the second body exerts a force −F on the first body. F and −F are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.
It kind of sticks with you from school I guess.
I love the science names of Valve games! Blue Shift relates to the doppler effect as applied to light, Decay relates to the radioactive decay of atoms, Opposing Force's name is described above. Episode One relates to... ah, screw you Valve.
Half-life.
Lack of sleep has clouded my judgement. I commend your efforts, young one.
if I remember right, back a few years ago when i emailed marc laidlaw, he said they weren't official, that they were just gearbox doing whatever they wanted. [editline]11:01PM[/editline] for opposing force that is, but the same is probably true for decay
They aren't official and Laidlaw has confirmed that their events and characters don't factor into their official considerations for the series, but nobody from Valve has ever fully denounced them from being canon and Lombardi said that it's still possible that they could bring some of that content back if they wanted to, specifically Shephard. But you're right, nothing from the Gearbox games should ever be taken as concrete information on what happened in the story. All the times and dates were made up by Gearbox (and have even been changed a couple times) except for one, and that's the approximate employment date of Gordon from the Half-Life instruction manual. It doesn't give the year and it doesn't give the date of the game's events. The game taking place a day after Gordon started working is entirely a Gearbox idea and is only ever presented in the instruction manuals; never in-game.
When Freeman goes rogue on GMan in Episode 3 he brings back Shepard to kill Freeman I called it
if I remember right, back a few years ago when i emailed marc laidlaw, he said they weren't official, that they were just gearbox doing whatever they wanted. [editline]11:01PM[/editline] for opposing force that is, but the same is probably true for decay
Isn't Blue Shift part of the story though? I mean, it explains how Barney survived Black Mesa, it has to be official.
Isn't Blue Shift part of the story though? I mean, it explains how Barney survived Black Mesa, it has to be official.
Valve has never officially said that Blue Shift is really how Barney escaped Black Mesa. All the security guards were known as "Barney" before Blue Shift was made and Blue Shift was just Gearbox taking a character and using their imagination. Though Valve still hasn't done anything that would wreck that connection, so it's up the air right now.
Where did everyone get the idea that Gordon fucked over the anti-mass spectrometer on his first day at work? Everything in the game indicates that he had worked at Black Mesa for a while.
Gordon didn't mess up on the Anti-Massspectrometer, it was Gina and Collete one level above him who fucked it up. The administrator told the crew to put it at that level. Anyone played Decay?
Isn't Blue Shift part of the story though? I mean, it explains how Barney survived Black Mesa, it has to be official.
Let's put it like this; Valve has made it clear that the Gearbox expansions are not officially canon, but you're free to interpret Blue Shift as the story of how Barney escaped Black Mesa as you see fit.
The Valve line is that the Gearbox games are canon unless Valve contradicts them, in which case Valve is right.
Oh man I read the other article that this one linked too. I can't believe they called the crowbar a wrench. [editline]04:57PM[/editline] Both these reviews are written with pure faggotry in mind.
Does everyone know that Half life was based off of a book, Half Life 2 was made out of Valve's Infinate wisdom.
Well that explains why HL2 was so terrible... Obviously their infinite wisdom wasn't so infinite...
This article is fucking dumb. Shepard is a pretty common name in the military.
Aye [sp]My last name is Shephard[/sp]
Does everyone know that Half life was based off of a book, Half Life 2 was made out of Valve's Infinate wisdom.
What book was it based off? I want to read it.
