Trickle down economics don't work. It's been proved time and time again.
Where exactly in my post did you see anything vaguely hinting at trickle down economics? No seriously-are you just throwing out canned responses? Is that what we're doing now instead of actually responding to posts?
Fuck this. I'm out. You're a fucking lunatic. It was a reasonable debate until you started falling back on insulting people for "leftism". And the great bit? I'm not actually mad in the slightest, just tired of your shit. Have you considered that my posts are receiving these ratings because maybe, just maybe, I'm being a decent human being and trying to explain this using actual sources and not anecdotes about how "I was homeless and now I'm not so everyone can do it"? [editline]Edited[/editline] Ahaha oh wow you actually went out of your way to rate a post of mine in the programming forum dumb? You truly are a petty little man. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6003122/fuckingidiot.PNG[/t]
I thought I'd see if you had the same obnoxious attitude on your other posts, and stumbled across a few that seemed pretty dumb. Unlike you, I'd prefer not to derail this thread but your assertion in that other thread; "Enough OpenGL 3.2+ to make a working "game"" Is simply wrong. You need much more than just OpenGL to make a game. Does the player get to interact with the game or just stare at it? What about sound? What about netcode? You do realize OpenGL is rendering-only, right? You're doing a compsci course at uni and you have these gaps in your knowledge, yet you want taxpayers to pay 100% of your fees? No thanks.
didn't read well enough, sorry gimmick account

I sincerely hope you aren't stupid enough to take that single line for face value. You are purposefully trying to find things to "discredit" me with, it's not working. It's making you look like a total fucking moron instead (and you are reinforcing that idea pretty hard). I hope that some day, you realise how stupendously petty this is and possibly how ridiculous this miniature crusade you seem to have started was in the first place.
didn't read well enough, sorry gimmick account
It's okay burrito riding cat- it's never to late in life to learn to read, or failing that you could get one of those text to speech programs... Also- of course trickle down economics works. If I have money- I pay someone to mow my lawn. I get to be lazy- someone gets to earn a few bucks. You may argue that it doesn't trickle down enough- and that someone can't live off of lawn mowing jobs- but that is a separate argument altogether...
You'd object to being rich? You couldn't find lots of kewl things to buy for yourself, family and friends if you were a millionaire or even billionaire? :)
Of course I wouldn't, but having billionaires isn't necessarily better for the economy.
What did they do to deserve it?
I wasn't suggest that we simply share the rich people's money just like that, simply saying that that money would benefit the economy more if it was used instead of hoarded, nothing more. Taxation is basically a lighter version of this.
Not neccessarrilly from your company though....
Again, wasn't a serious suggesting, but a stronger middle class would benefit your company in the end.
But someone has to build that yacht or mansion, the money isn't wasted, is it? Even if it just sits there in banks, the banks make loans right? Granted a lot is kept in stocks, and if rich people wanna give that away (like Bill Gates etc) then that's upto them, but is it reasonable for the state to take it from them, especially at > 50%
Yeah, a lot of it is in stocks, and that's simply a bit wasteful in my opinion. Therefore, I'd rather the rich were less rich, while having a stronger middle class.
Denmark (as the rest of Scandinavia) does seem like a nice, peaceful place, I just worry about the future growth potential of that economic model....I guess we'll see, $18 bn is pretty nice :P
I don't think it'll go as bad as what you're predicting. Let's see how it's going in a few years.
Kewl photo :)
Yeah, I was simply pointing out that looks aren't everything - while it may show growth, it doesn't say anything about the stability of that growth.
Maybe not as much, but the single currency makes a big difference....
Sure, but I think it's pretty important to point out.
Washington State has not much more people than that, but has Microsoft, Starbucks, Boeing, Valve, Amazon....
Again, Washington state is part of the United states. And actually, a lot of the growth in the US is because of the state. All that defense spending in the cold war made a big difference, and on that account, just look at the Marshall help after the war. The state is one of the most important factors in today's economy.
You mentioned Nokia like it was something very special. Taiwan is also pretty much king of motherboards....
Nokia is/was something very special, though - it was basically the forerunner in the development of mobile phones. Sure, it ended up being not that competitive in the smartphone era, but that's how the free market works. The 520 is selling pretty darn well, though, and I'd argue that they're getting back in the race (though it's being sold to Microsoft).
As for Korea; Samsung, LG, Hyundai have hundreds of billions of dollars of revenue between them.
Sure, Korea is doing doing pretty well.
25% is extremely reasonable IMO. I'd hate to see it hit 75%....
Yeah, it wouldn't be very good for the companies' ability to invest money. As long as that money is getting invested, it's enough to tax private persons.
I stand corrected.
Yeah, I guess. Wouldn't you agree that a strong middle class is needed for a strong economy?
I meant if you are smart enough or hard-working enough or resilient enough to do something special, and the marketplace agrees with you about how special it is, then you have a chance of making money. If you're just the same as everyone else, and everyone else has essentially given up (certainly in the UK anyway), then you won't....I meant individualistic in economic outlook. You can dye your hair green and have 800 piercings or whatever, but if you have no ambition or expect handouts, how is that special?
They're still getting their money's worth - simply not to the same extent as in the US. I don't believe in a socialist or communist society, but I'm a firm believer in social-liberalism with a tightly regulated free market.
Yeah, they're currently far too dependant on exports, but that is starting to change. China has a huge and rapidly growing middle-class which is feeding domestic demand.
Yeah, but it's still a long way from what we have in Europe and the US.
IDK, is it really, "shit" they're exporting? As Hexpunk said it's almost impossible to get away from, "Made in China", probably almost everything in the room you're in right now, at least electrical equipment. Is your phone shit? Your TV? Your PC's components? Your iPod etc?
I just used shit as "all kinds of shit", not necessarily shit quality. I'd argue that a lot of what they're making is pretty sub-par, but yeah, they're of course making very usable stuff as well.
How are they leeching off society? If we use an example like, say, Garry, or maybe Notch, if Garry's a bad idea - how can we say they're leeching? They produced a game, or 2, in G's case that have been popular enough to buy by large amounts of people. No-one's being forced to buy those games, they're not excessivly priced, they still pay huge amounts in taxes despite it probably only being corporate tax which I believe is fairly similar in Sweden to the UK (around about 25%). Then they hire people, those people pay taxes in turn. I'm finding it hard to see any leeching....
Rich people who aren't paying their taxes are leeching off what is being built by the state. Garry and Notch aren't necessarily cheating on their taxes. About hiring people... well, most people are hired by private corporations, not people - that's (part of) why the corporate tax should be lower than the one that applies to private persons.

What crusade? Disagreeing with your insane ideas is a crusade? You discredit yourself, amongst intelligent people, everytime you open your foul mouth. Also, I thought you were busy 24/7 and you used that as justification for how taxpayers spending money on your course is a good plan, yet you come in here to argue with strangers around the clock. Notice how no-one else in here is getting upset about ratings?
25% is extremely reasonable IMO. I'd hate to see it hit 75%....
Just one thing on the taxation in France at the moment, there are three types of tax in France. corporate tax, social tax and income tax. Social tax and income tax are tied together a little bit, but corporate tax is roughly 33.1% in France. Now the 75% tax in France is about a 50% income tax 25% of additional social security charges.
Sorry, but this has to be done.... http://www.henrymakow.com/illuminatiusesocialism.html *waits for box-flood*
What are you even doing?

Basically every single line of this post was a direct insult, notice how you are doing this near constantly, and me and many others have not? Sure there have been a few insults here and there, but we aren't doing it every post we can to prove how "inferior" the left is. But please, do go on to tell me how my lifestyle is causing people to lose money, when I have no income outside of a loan I will be paying back. No benefits, well not any more since my NHS voucher for eyecare expired, nothing but loan. What do you bring to society oh almighty capitalist? What are you doing to make our lives better? Are you working on new technologies to improve access to information? Producing cleaner fuels for us? Finding ways to get resources we need in a less wasteful manner? What are you doing. I'm not upset about the ratings, however I am using them to see what the fuck you're doing. Rather than rate people when you disagree with them, why not try and actually prove your point? Ratings don't mean shit, but they sure as hell tell me who is pissed off at me when someone actually finds unrelated posts to rate.

This is being remarkably tactless even for Facepunch. You don't just go around insinuating that people have mental health issues just like that. The only people qualified to do it, unless it's so blindly obvious that even a layman could see it, are degree-holder professional psychiatrists or neurologists. And this is teetering quite close to ad hominem even with a decent amount of leeway.

Kuydna, I feel really sorry for you. Your mentality would be funny, if not for the fact that so many people believe it. You completely ignore the issues that a capitalist system has. Nobody, or almost nobody, has been advocating a complete dismissal of the capitalism economy, rather changing it so that there is a safety net for people in poverty. One of these problems which has been iterated over and over that you don't seem to get is that hard work will never ever ever move you up in social class. It may be necessary, but it is never the reason why someone moves up in social class and very rarely the case how people move out of poverty. Opportunities are the only way to move up in social classes. Opportunities can include things like, having the time to get an education, not being in some sort of accident and even getting the right job. There is no way of guaranteeing you get the right opportunities you need if you are poor, and that is one of the major problems in economies. But you haven't listened to any of this throughout the thread and now are practically flaming people.
lmao what are you even doing you behave like a big baby and then steer directly off into crazy-town seek help
I'm trying to get the conversation back ontrack after someone derailed it in order to whine about dumb ratings. Someone has allowed a personal grudge to develop that they need to take elsewere. Review the last few pages carefully.
