the thing about those 'fines' is that they aren't even to do with law enforcement and in many cases the groups don't giving them out don't even have the support of the copyright holders they're claiming to protect. it's just some scumbags trying to scare people into paying them when they don't have to
The actual fine levied by law enforcement in the OP article. NOT the mass-mailing campaigns, which are stupid. [editline]23rd November 2012[/editline] Okay the third source makes it clear the fine wasn't leveled by law enforcement Law enforcement leveling fines is okay, individual holders going after individuals is fine, mass mailing campaigns is not
Man, people should stop torrenting things. Since The Avengers was torrented, it ended up being only the third highest grossing movie of all time.
Which is actually a fine example to go back to the top of this page. We have now confirmed that at least SOME piracy is lost sales, yes? Ergo, piracy is harmful to the market.
And the billions of dollars they spend on lobbyists and lawyers is also money wasted. Running a business is not all fun and sunshine flavored lollipops, is basically the extent of your argument so far. So what? You haven't even proposed any arguments as to what to do about piracy other than "Everybody stop pirating because I don't approve of it" which shows how absolutely deluded and detached from reality your whole view is on the subject.
i pirate shit to try before i buy i pirated skyrim to test if it ran on my pc it didnt got new graphics card run it well bought it ok (User was banned for this post ("Warez/It's still illegal" - Autumn))
I pirate games that are good but published by publishers who are shit. (User was banned for this post ("Admitting warez" - Autumn))
This is scary guys, come on, why can the police just raid you for seemingly no reason.
i pirate shit to try before i buy i pirated skyrim to test if it ran on my pc it didnt got new graphics card run it well bought it ok
i told the cops on u for pirating ur in trubbl, you made them lose a sale, you cunt But in all seriousness, if anything, I feel that developers would have far less problems with piracy, both large studios and otherwise, if they just actually put a demo into their game, or extended it so far as to give the customer a good feel for the whole game. For games like Battlefield, why not register an Origin account and try it during certain events with a guest pass or something along those lines? Call of Duty could work in a similar fashion. That's what gets me. If I was sucked into the game early, I'd be even more persuaded to buy it than I was before.

I don't know if anyone has said this in the thread already, but there are rumors that the particular torrent the girl downloaded, was put there by the CIAPC. So basically it was just their little trap. That's just a rumor though. Also, you shouldn't download from TPB anyways. That's like the most monitored torrent site in existence. Download your linux distros from somewhere else.
That's why you use private trackers and seedboxes.

Okay, way to, again, do what a bunch of people in this thread before you did, and assume I'm some kind of retard. I assume you are a caveman? PS 'billions', really?

Sensationalist headlines and mass debate have overlapped and become one it seems.
Why are we even debating about this Most games today have such horrible DRM I need to crack my legit copy to run them properly (see: GFWL)
Wow congratulations you cited an incredibly awkward workaround for a problem. And one outlier! Well if we're doing that. -You pirate the game. The game is actually a trojan. Your entire system explodes. See. Look. Piracy is bad, mmkay. again, have shown that you don't even know what you're talking about, again
HELLO I AM SCOUT1 ALL I FUCKING DO IS STRAWMAN ALL. FUCKING. DAY. There's more Strawman here than a Strawman convention, in Strawmensville, Strawmanland, on the continent of Strawmanfrica, on Planet Strawman, in the Straw-man system, in the Strawman part of the Great Strawman Galaxy in Strawman-space in the Strawman Universe
So 10% of all pirated shit is stuff that would've been legitly bought? That is the number you want to cite? That is two hundred thousand copies of spore. The usual royalty rate would mean maxis lost over a million dollars from piracy.
That is not how value works. You don't take the demand for a price negligible commodity (like what, a couple dollars) and compare it to the demand for and profits made from a supply with a price many times that. It's like handing out soup at the kitchen and fantasizing about how much you would make if each were sold at your markup. Spore was hyped and gathered a large following, than made major changes to the game and used DRM, which discouraged buying retail copies. The piracy numbers here are unsurprising and reflect an obvious choice for consumers. With lower prices, demand typically rises. It's not fair and never will be to compare piracy numbers to sold copies and bitch about losses.
No matter how much money these people throw at it or try and stop it, nothing will stop pirates piracy is just not stoppable, it's here to stay.
Man, people should stop torrenting things. Traps are ok though I guess, but fining a girl isn't. The parent's didn't do it, the girl that didn't know what she was doing did.

If your arguing against piracy then you have no reason to rate a perfectly good post like that. Why rate a anti-piracy post dumb when you're anti piracy? if you're just here to correct people according to your opinion and not piracy then why are you here anyways. You aren't even actually arguing anything, just being a smart ass and saying people shouldn't pirate because in your opinion its better to buy it, and in your "opinion" it's more worth it.

The 600€ citation won't stand in court if they decide to fight it because the person who did it is nine years old. In Finland a person has to be 15 years of age before they are considered fit to stand trial and responsible for their own actions in the eyes of the law. The police were doing their jobs and it's unfortunate that the media is portraying them as the bad guys here. The bad guys are the anti-piracy groups who endorse this kind of shit.
Yes, please take down the people who already legitimately bought the content. Fucking idiots.
It's still a crime even if you didn't manage to finish it. They got a fine, probably a court based fine order and refused to pay it, nor did they contend it in front of said court. Honestly their fault. I'd say they just completely ignored it.
Even the laptop gets in trouble.
