cops are fucking up lately
Eh... Been to a few cons, generally you don't hold the weapon you a carrying outside the con zone. Only idiots do shit with weapons outside of the con area. It sucks he died but honestly we need more information first, the article doesn't say too much.
What do you do with a prop that is a weapon outside of a con zone? Pack it away or something? I plan on having an prop ax with a future costume so I'm really asking because I'd like to know from someone who's been to a con.
i'm mainly siding with he had a sword, shoot him in the legs and he's done, but at the sametime it's a sword and i don't know the distances encountered
Then the officer would be fired and his department liable for the injures suffered by this lonely samurai. This is why you shoot to kill or don't shoot at all. If the officer shot him in the leg and did not kill him, it would be acknowledged that he was not a lethal threat to begin with and so the officer should not have used lethal force. I hope that makes sense. There is a great video about why he would still be considered a threat after being shot. I'll try to find it. Here:
i'm mainly siding with he had a sword, shoot him in the legs and he's done, but at the sametime it's a sword and i don't know the distances encountered
Apparently he was shot six times in the back.
did your gun boner get in your eyes or can you actually not read
Considering modern handguns don't use clips makes me wonder if he is misinformed about more than 1 thing.
tough situation for the cops on one hand, you have well-trained, sworn officers of the law reacting to what they perceived to be a threat, but on the other hand, you have a 22-year-old seemingly innocent man in cosplay shot several times in the back there's gotta be more to the whole story that we don't know
I wonder how this played out. Until I know what happened, I'm staying skeptical of this entire scenario.
I have no issue with an RP'er carrying a sword around however...
hey say officers were reacting to Hunt lunging at them with the steel sword.
Regardless of the situation, THIS is where a line gets crossed. I don't care how dedicated you are to keeping in character (or if this actually happened), If the police ever interrupt you DO NOT remain in character or otherwise do anything they can react on because like in this example they have no idea if you are joking or not and well, it's the fucking police.

Should have cut the bullets in half.

It's still common sense and should not be disregarded because of a conspiracy.
After digging up more articles, it appears the official story was changed after surveillance footage was found: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/16/darrien-hunt-shot-in-the-back-by-utah-police-says-family-attorney The footage (and an eyewitness) shows him running several yards away before being shot to hell. So the county chief deputy attorney changed the story to "he lunged at the officers with the sword and then ran away and was shot", whereas his previous story was "he lunged at them and was shot". Something is fucking fishy here. We still don't have the full story, but it's certain that he was taken down while running away.
All things considered, I will never understand why so many shootings done in 'self-defense' always end up with the victim having at least half a dozen bullets in him. One is all it really takes to incapacitate someone, right?

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxSSPdMoSLQ Under no case should an officer shoot without the intention of killing.

Plus, even if you're a police officer with a gun, someone who you think is trying to kill you is still pretty scary, so they would end up firing multiple times quickly. It would take some serious fucking discipline to not shoot more than once in an actual life or death situation.

By nature this employs raid fire and a lot of bullets. For the safety of everyone you must take down your target quickly, completely and effectively.

so what if he was shot in the back, they don't know what kind of oriental sword tricks he was gonna pull. you've seen naruto and they shit they pull, maybe running away is how he activates his stand or he was gonna perform an Iaido sword trick or some shit Seriously though what the fuck. Were there any animecons on that day? I don't think this guy dresses up as a samurai on random days for giggles and shits, and I'd be interested in seeing how a convention for costumed anime fans reacts to someone being shot for having a fake sword.
American police are the fucking criminals themselves! I don't get what the fuck is wrong with American cops at all, they ALWAYS fuck up somehow resulting in the death of innocent people, they always seem to be racist and they always seem to love shooting that damned gun on people. In Denmark, our police carry guns too, but I don't hear about anyone or their dog getting shot for no good reason, ever. Actually it is very rare they have to pull out the guns. So what is the fucking difference? Why are American cops so fucking horrible?
Where are the riots for this man? Rise up weeaboos, rise and protest.

If I were to find every news article about a cop screwing up or abusing his power, it would equal no where near that number.

Simple media sensationalism at work.
snip, not necessary
