Where are the riots for this man? Rise up weeaboos, rise and protest.
We've already had like 4 shootings in the last 2 years from the SLC police; but most people here are docile Mormons, so the worst we get a protests at our capitol.
Was the guy actually attending an Anime con? I didn't know these guys brought real swords to cons, and if that was even allowed.
Or was it a "look alike" plastic sword? Right now I'm imagining police officers shooting someone dead because he was carrying a plastic gunblade, and that sounds like a fucking horrible way to go.
To me it sounds like some police officers can't take the pressure of their job and remain cool headed. I can understand why: They often face life threatening situations, but when suddenly faced with something out of the ordinary, like a strangely dressed person coming at you with something that looks like a sword, you could quickly misjudge the situation to be dangerous and react out of proportion.
To me it's a bit similar to patrolling villages in Afghanistan. Some villages might be extremely dangerous, and some of the people living there might have weapons and side with the Taliban, while in other villages the people might be completely friendly, but when they suddenly run at you with a bag of something suspicious, you can do nothing but react fast.
Should have cut the bullets in half.
Cops are lucky it wasn't authentic Nipponese thousand times folded steel or they'd be dead.
All officers should be equipped with a samurai sword for cases like this.
If the suspect in question is using a sword, the cops must challenge them to an honorable duel.

Youtube would blow the fuck up
"9 V 9 SWORD DUEL, <state here> POLICE VS HARDENED CRIMINALS, FULL LENGTH"
9 million hits right there
???
how does this make sense
Because he was lunging towards the officers doesn't necessarily mean he was facing all of the officers on scene.
Considering there were two, if he lunges towards either (especially if they're standing on either side of him), the other has the opportunity to shoot, most likely at his back if he's focused on the other officer.

My best "guess" is he was trying to scare some people for kicks, then realized that they were officers, pulled up their guns, he pissed his pants and started running away and then they ventilated him.
I mean come on, as a cosplayer you know that bad things happen when you use replica swords or fake guns in broad daylight.
Sad he died a virgin.
Sad he died a virgin.
The sad part is that he died, dingus. Whether or not he died a virgin is none of your beeswax.
i'm mainly siding with he had a sword, shoot him in the legs and he's done, but at the sametime it's a sword and i don't know the distances encountered
Shoot legs or something similar is not something a cop will ever be doing. You shoot the center mass, because it has the most stopping power and you are the most likely to hit.

What is femoral artery and the relative size of the leg

You're right it's more sad he died an anime.
Why didn't he use Bankai?
Thats surprising. The source in no way describes how the shooting went down. It's hard to blame it on any party when it's not described properly.
It could have been the guy who was still in "roleplay mode" and fucking around with the cops, or it could be a zero tolerance attack.
The cops are wrong in some way, but it's hard to tell immediately.
I love how you say its too early to blame either party, and then say it's probably the cops fault.
good job.
Modern handguns have a 12 bullet clip, when you are firing at someone lunging at you, you stop caring until the person coming at you is on the floor...
I don't think I've seen a handgun that uses a clip since.. ww2?

Under no case should an officer shoot without the intention of killing.
Magdumping into someone is unprofessional as fuck though, there's a good chance of collateral damage too.

At that range, no matter how shit you are with a sword you'll have done at least some damage to the one you're lunging at, before the other one can unholster their pistol.

Ok, so at close range they are supposed to take that extra time to aim every shot giving the attacker more time to kill them?
Ok, so at close range they are supposed to take that extra time to aim every shot giving the attacker more time to kill them?
He was shot in the back. the person that shot him wasn't getting charged, and even if we'll believe for a moment that he was attacking the other officer, how doesn't he have any damage from either the sword, or the missed bullets. As I said earlier, at the range they were in the picture the shooting officer had to have been close, or above world record in quickdraw to unholster, flip the safety, and fire six shots at the guy with the sword before he would have reached the other officer.

This isn't hollywood or a warzone with Al-Qaeda Terries jacked up on Epinephrine requiring you to hit bone just to stop them.
Good guys with guns

I'd like to see the notion that Samurai Champloo is a bad anime hold up in court.
Are you for real comparing the conditions of Afghanistan to an anime convention???
It was more a poor, early morning attempt to somewhat compare the rough neighborhoods of the United States to small villages in Afghanistan. I could imagine that some police officers are as nervous as some soldiers, as they know that there might be people out to get them.
On the other hand, I haven't been to an anime convention, so it might be so traumatizing that it leaves a large percentage of visitors with PTSD that require years of therapy.
???

Well entrance wounds in the back don't exactly make things look good for police, just saying.
Things will really only be bad when a cop shoots a guy cosplaying as a Jedi
Shoot legs or something similar is not something a cop will ever be doing. You shoot the center mass, because it has the most stopping power and you are the most likely to hit.
Depends on the country Swedish police usually aims for the legs. There was this one time shooting at the leg backfired, the bullet ricochet on an iron gate and hit the guy charging towards the officer
Considering modern handguns don't use clips makes me wonder if he is misinformed about more than 1 thing.
Well I mean the article doesn't say what the cops were armed with. Maybe they were using Mauser C96 pistols???

So what you're saying is that he was actually shot by The Red Skull?
