Our science fiction movies will be hilarious in 50-100 years.
Eh, close enough.
When I was a young kid, I feared when I got the legal age to take a driving test and get my license we would be having flying cars
2012, I'm 16, no flying cars :suicide:
Actually, theres flying car prototypes that are pretty much cars with retractable wings, so theres that.

Those are more light airplanes, I think everyone nowadays thinks of Blade Runner hover cars whenever they think of flying cars.
Um, where is my jetpack that won't burn my ass off?
They're called rocket belts, they run off of oxygen and can go 60 MPH. You can build one for three thousand dollars out of off-the-shelf-parts.

You're welcome
I have this book called "How the Future Began", which was published in 1999. There are some pretty outlandish predictions for 2012 onwards

They predicted hoodies!
I love how none of the machines are actually autonomous, they're being controlled by some sort of console.
I guess the idea of a Roomba actually cleaning shit up on its own accord just didn't occur to them.
No pictures of women voting? Or black people and white people in the same schools?
No pictures of women voting? Or black people and white people in the same schools?
No, but they did include black people in one of the pictures.

And drive-by's

And they predicted the twist to a Doctor Who episode.

Man, just think, one day we'll have touchscreens the size of houses!

That's BA as fuck.
They even predicted top mounted machine guns for cars.
That one is really fucking impressive. Look at those flying cars in the background. Look at the design, and remember this was before airplanes were invented!
And these had propellars and fixed wings and even vertical stabilizers on those in the background. That is goddamn impressive.
Most aero-vehicle designs at the time were based on flapping wings, but thought to be impossible, until the Wright brothers pulled off making the first ever airplane in 1903, which even looked more primitive then what's drawn here. Amazing!
This one was drawn in 1910, and airplane designs were known before the Wright brothers completed their model

They already had vehicles like this, they didn't predict shit.
I thought holographic tupac was just on a big projector. Did it have 3D depth?
Point missed completely.

probably late but these were drawn from 1899 through 1910, this one was more likely drawn after the Wright bros did their thing
These remind me of some of Da Vinci's machines that he drew.

Science equals science fiction plus time.
the reason why futures like this never happen is because it's require an entirely control centralized society, like say what you are in those Civilizations games or SimCity games.
No reasonable profit motivated corporation (all of them) would invest money into developing jetpacks, flying cars, etc since they'd be too expensive for 99% of the population, and costs untold millions to develop.
why can't science stop doing unimportant shit and get around to flying cars already
every generation ever has wanted flying cars

It's more along the lines of under today standard technology they would be too expensive for 99.9% of today's population.
Hell take the cost of an f-22 raptor. It's also far too expensive, but you find areas where the willingness to pay for the utlity of it exists. So the price to utility margin is still feasible. Something like a personal jetpack lacks that.

Airplanes are essentially flying cars.

You could say they predicted SCUBA in that picture, although they did have closed circuit rebreathers in the 1800s.
Well they got the incredibly tight pants by young hipsters right.

capitalism isn't evil, flying cars are just stupid
[editline]4th September 2012[/editline]
stupid difficult and stupid expensive and stupid useless
I am still awaiting atomic powered superairliners, high speed monorails, capsule size meals and flying fucking cars.
So far all we saw was a gas shortage, a flock of seagulls, the internet, and HD footage of the surface of mars.
Thanks for quoting Austin Powers in Goldmember.
Flying cars don't work because it's too dangerous.

"you think they can implant knowledge directly into their brains?" "yeah of course!"
"can they invent a grinder that doesn't need a hand crank?" "lol no that's impossible"
We have all of those except for the first and the fifth one, easily accessable by the public. Problem is, some of those are very costly so only rich people get them.
