The apple watch will cost $350 - $10,000. Oh and the new macbook is so thin it only has one usb port
Such a joke, but people will still buy it, because it's thin and has an Apple logo on it.
Also, I always thought it was funny how some apple products cost over $100 for some extra hard drive space.
yes because, as we know, up-to-1GB/s SSDs are really cheap.
I like how the new MacBook has a 480p camera.
For the average user, it is though. I can't say I really expected to open the terminal just to view hidden files and folders. The capability certainly is there but Windows exposes much of that in a more accessible fashion than OSX.
mind going in to detail how
windows doesn't even provide a good terminal for anyone that would want to use it
If I was going to get an Apple Watch I'd get the 42mm stainless steel band version, but the cheapest is $949. For a digital watch that isn't even stylish.
I know watches can be exorbitantly priced but $949 for a screen on my wrist is daylight robbery. My G Watch cost me a benji, and even has standard 22mm straps.
'wasteful' is subjective. if someone has the money for these things and cares about them then that's that
i would call a lot of things wasteful if i was using a closed mindset like that
it's wasteful because the watch is going to be outdated within a year or 2 and with that kind of money you could buy a watch, a house, a car, or a pile of apple watches, or god knows what
and also that's 10,000$ spent on a SINGLE watch that has no actual difference from the cheaper ones outside of being overpriced
It's meant for college students and authors/journalists who don't need high performance but want to be able to travel with their laptop easily.
My laptop is rather thick and takes up the same amount of space in my bag as a textbook, having a thin light laptop means you can carry more stuff.
Have the textbook as a PDF, problem solved. For my Uni-days all I needed was my laptop, a notebook (the paper one) with a pen for notes or to draw diagrams/technical schematics.

either apple will roll out a contingency/upgrade plan and/or the watches will keep their value so well you could sell the old one and buy the new one for much less

How do you just get the textbook as a PDF? Not all textbooks are online as PDFs, infact most aren't.

At least a Rolex will continue to tell time well after the model is discontinued
Then again Rolexes have a lot more value than "gold bezel" they have like, extremely precisely machined parts and everything

one example of something you have to instead open terminal for on OS X. like you do on most Linux DEs at the same time
big deal

i'm not going to defend finder though because it has sucked ass since Mavericks. OS X is still by definition not locked down though. no two ways about it
Spending $10,000 on a watch that does the same stuff your phone sounds like a really good idea.
hey I didn't say it isn't working for them, they have thousands of times more money than I can count, just what I'm seeing is all
I more said hipsters because... a 10,000$ watch is so out there. No one buys that except the exclusively wasteful :v:
I highly doubt any hipsters could afford a ten grand watch. Regardless of what you think of them they're rarely employed in careers that would make that purchase possible, that's probably nearly half of a lot of 'hipsters' yearly salary

Then just buy a chromebook?
personally buying a 10,000$ watch sounds literally like something one would to buy bragging rights and feel important
I don't want to be overly cynical but there isn't actually a point outside of "Haha, yeah, it cost me 10,000"
I have an Air which is for portability reasons. It's solid hardware I got at a 20% discount at the time (2014 edition). The new Macbook seems to be.. ultra ultra ultra portable? I don't see the point of it, if it's a worse MBA. I mean okay Retina and USB-C are nice (with lower power consumption), but beyond that?
Seems rather eh.
Edit - If you want to easily compare specs - http://www.apple.com/uk/mac/compare/results/?product1=macbook&product2=macbook-air-11
Then just buy a chromebook?
I'm not the type of person to buy a Mac, but that's their logic. They'd rather pay $800+ for something they want versus $200 for something they don't.
Macs are marketed way better than any other type of laptop.
Then just buy a chromebook?
'Least they aint highway robbery expensive, and also cloud focused, which that target group just loves and adores.
As a longtime Apple customer who had full intent to pick up the Apple watch I can say...
Fuck that shit what the fuck is up with those prices?!
I feel like my fatty sausage fingers would shatter that MacBook with one touch.
Man it looks like the new macbook is using a different charger again.
Then just buy a chromebook?
are there any more premium chromebooks other than the pixel? this is who apple are targeting. not chromebook users
Man it looks like the new macbook is using a different charger again.
it's a completely standard charger. one that a whole lot of laptops could potentially use soon.

self expression is a lot of the point to it, yes. 10,000 wouldn't be a gigantic amount to most people buying this watch anyways.
no different from buying expensive cars for doing 70 down the motorway on the way to work. it's all social reputation and expression

This reminds me how much I LOVE explorer over finder.
FUCK finder. It's the worst shit i've ever used.
[editline]9th March 2015[/editline]
Also fuck this getting thinner shit, what the fuck are computers supposed to be now, underweight photoshopped super models?
Apple reaches new lows with the apple watch

Powershell itself is probably more powerful and versatile then the average linux Terminal. I would argue that the actual content there is more important then the terminal features, in which case Linux does do better content wise, but it really depends on the kind of area.
Most of the postix compatibility layers for windows run in Powershell, and you don't really miss anything compared to a linux terminal.
i can feel my hands cramping from looking at that keyboard
the engineering department of my school uses macbooks for some reason and i can definitely say i would not want them any thinner
as they are right now, they are really stylish but still SOMEWHAT practical because they arent sticks
The sport version isn't too bad compared to the prices of other smartwatches, considering it blows competitors away with the software.
I really wanted the stainless steel but there's no way in hell i'm paying that much. Stainless steel isn't even that expensive is it? Why the 300 dollar price gap?
I am still slightly considering the sport, but i'm having my doubts. There are android counterparts that look better IMO, but I'm really loving Apple's software here. And I have an iPhone so a wear watch would screw me in that aspect.
The apple watch bands are pretty bad looking tbh, the first ones that i would consider "OK" would be the metal ones that are ~1000 dollars, which is a pretty hefty price.

i wouldn't say either bash/csh etc. are any more or less powerful than modern Powershell. two very different shells with effectively different usage cases
regardless, CMD is still the one everyone roots for, seeing as Powershell is very, very different from either bash or CMD and hasn't seemed to have been pushed to the same extent for day to day CLI. i personally like powershell
