The apple watch will cost $350 - $10,000. Oh and the new macbook is so thin it only has one usb port
No shit? I may have been exaggerating a bit, but I'm dead serious when I say durability, user serviceability, and the OS doing what I want it to do and nothing more are the top three things I require in a laptop. If it doesn't tick all three of those boxes it might as well not exist 'far as I'm concerned.
MacBooks are build to high industrial standards, they're surprisingly tough laptops.
why would you need user serviceability when you have pretty much AAA RMA and customer support
how does OS X not do what you want it to do

you might want to re-think this post
you do realize those are batteries right?
you do realize those are batteries right?
what do you mean
obviously?
i posted that to say that there's actually incredibly limited space in there.

I suspect for a lot of people it's going to be video games and certain software that probably has an OS X equivalent but would be too much trouble to learn. Lack of games and software I want is the main reason I could never get into Linux.
Sure game support is getting better now, but that will probably never bring support to all the old titles.

OS X supports official microsoft productive suites, adobe suites (notably better than on windows) amongst a well developed, managed app store and many package managers for those who need Linux applications. games and potentially .net programming are really the only two limiting things in OS X, and it's not even the fault of the operating system
SSDs take about as much space as a stick of RAM, probably even less
a 2.5" SSD is just a circuit board in an oversized plastic shell, should easily be able to fit that
The only reason a SSD is as thick as it is is so you have something to put the damn screws in. Really cool

I don't know about everyone else but the thought of combining so many constantly used ports into one is not something I would ever want. It's just going to wear it out 3 times as fast... Or is there some special design of the port that will prevent this? I've not heard a peep about type c ports yet sorry.

the port is built in to/from the chassis. it won't wear out easily at all

the ports on Macbooks have been ridiculously hard to break since this kind of design was introduced some 5+ years ago
the port is about as hard to break as the aluminium on the rest of the body since it's on the same mould. the only area of worry are the pins and those are designed in a much more sensible way with USB C.

I agree it's not the fault of the operating system, but that's not much of a consolation to those who like games. I don't know much about the capabilities of OS X in general though, I only have limited experience with the iMac G3 with Mac OS 9 from when I was in school, it's really a world of computers I have almost no experience with since I encounter macs so rarely. Probably why it feels so foreign to most users like me.
I love Macbook air, but I wish it was more powerful than it is. But christ that new model is a joke especially with that price. I'd better buy an iPad instead of new macbook air. (1.1gHz are you serious?)
Just FYI GHz is a horrible horrible measure of a CPU's performance. A 1.1GHz computer isn't bad, just like how a 4.0GHz computer isn't necessarily good.
[editline]9th March 2015[/editline]
Plus in this case, the thing "Turbo Boosts" up to 2.4, so you will probably see better performance than the 1.1 if you bought it.

passively cooled Intel processors don't Turbo for long.

*cough powershell *cough. Aka you know a terminal more powerful than bash or most other posix shells.

Actually adobe suites have in general had better performance on windows ever since they went 64bit. imho the main issue with OSx is how terrible finder is, but that is something that mostly comes down to preference.
Why do they say "this is the lightest mac we've ever made" as it's supposed to mean something significant.
Where in the hell did the whole 'thinner is better' thing even come from?
When and why did the thinness of a device suddenly become a measure of its quality, I don't understand
It's a stupid as those irrelevant percentages they keep mentioning. Perhaps it's so people can go to work and say "My Mac is 24% thinner than yours"
Where in the hell did the whole 'thinner is better' thing even come from?
I am very wary of the whole thinner business for any technologies. Certainly does't make a whole lot of sense from a structural standpoint.
Why do they say "this is the lightest mac we've ever made" as it's supposed to mean something significant.
"The thinnest sandwich we've ever made"
Both would be equally efficient at serving their respective purposes.

It's not a measure of its quality, it's a measure of its lightness and portability. For something that a lot of people carry around every day this can be really important, like students who need to carry around their laptop along with their books. I don't know why this is difficult to understand.
I see no point in the new Macbook over a Macbook Pro. I also think the new Macbook is less productive friendly, but then again any Macbook that wasn't a Pro was always aimed at being Facebook machines.
I also am saddened to see how the watch gets all the attentions. It seems average people don't care about traditional computers with desktop OS's and just want phones and tablets and now watches. I find it difficult if not impossible to do real work on a tablet, but find no issue with Macbook Pro's for work, heck Google would agree.

Maybe I should look into a second hand macbook pro, on second thoughts.
I'd recommend this over the New Macbook. Probably cheaper, better specs and has plenty of ports.
Everyone seems to mention the $10,000 for the watch, no one seems to mention that the price goes even higher then that

And you still don't get a metal band.
I don't understand why some who has that much money to waste would want that? Is it marketed directly to Donald Trump or something? They're just going to get the new one next year anyway.

I don't even think rich people like Trump would buy this
They'd probably get super fancy watches and not one made out of gold, like this one

Never seen that before, what is it?
Their market campain should be that they sell gooch products that only the top class bellends who own a mansion will buy.
What the fuck is Apple doing?
I feel like their laptops will be so thin that people be able to bend it at some point.
It's called the "Midnight Planétarium" and it's a watch that measures not only time and date, but the orbits of the planets as well.
Here's the full site if you want to take a look:
http://www.vancleefarpels.com/us/en/article/10935/midnight-planetarium-timepiece
And it can be yours for the price of [sp]$245,000![/sp]
But hey, at least it has a leather strap.
And those specs are retarded for that price with the laptop. You know what kind of KILLER desktop or even a gaming laptop you can get for that? You're buying the novelty of having something as flimsy as a folder you used in school, and in doing so you get less CPU, Less HDD Space, Less screen space, An OS That you can't really do shit to or with, Hardware you can't change out or even repair yourself like other laptops. The only thing worth while is that it has 8GB of RAM and a nice SSD. But 8GB of RAM is the cheapest thing in it
