do elaborate. is it perhaps, that you see all girls as delicate snowflakes who must be treated with care and sheltered from the dangers of the world?
My little sister (about the same age as this kid) was always into guy stuff, she has a very interesting taste in TV Shows and toys to say the least. But this has sorta been becoming more commonplace for years now so less people seem to care. It's always been the case where it's less abnormal for girls to like guy things, than guys to like girly things.
do elaborate. is it perhaps, that you see all girls as delicate snowflakes who must be treated with care and sheltered from the dangers of the world?
He's not saying that it should be different, he's saying that it IS different. Guys liking "girly" things is considered worse by society than girls liking "manly" things.
why don't schools fucking punish the bullies like they fucking should
There's no reward or incentive for schools to take action and deal with the logistics and (potential) legal drama surrounding that ideal. Real life isn't the utopia people want and wishing for change does nothing. If you want schools to give a shit you will have to reward them for it -- that's the simple reality of the world.
The reaction would be much different.
Really? Has there been anyone here who has said this has been anything other than bad? Except for that one guy on page one of course.
There's a freshman who wears a mlp hoodie with a "Deal w/ it" logo in my pe period, it doesn't help that he's like a XXY Klinefelter's mutant either.
Really?

I get what the kids mum is saying, but wearing an MLP bag, at a school is like asking to be bullied.
The reaction would be different if a girl with a transformers bag was given the same treatment by a school. Hell, she probably wouldn't even be bullied for it.
Doing something despite knowing that it won't get you popular is pretty manly tbh. I couldn't do something like this.
It really depends on how you're doing it. If you're just being obnoxious about it, then it's no wonder you'll get mocked/harrased. The kid should learn, not to stop liking what he likes, but to hide his "powerlevel" to the public.
I mean I kinda get asking him to leave it at home for now so he doesn't get bullied further, provided they're working on a comprehensive solution in the meantime. Punishing a bully is just going to get this kid bullied harder by everyone else most likely, he goes from being the MLP kid to being the MLP kid that got (bully name) suspended.
Personally I think the best possible solution to the situation would be to recommend (not demand, but recommend) that he not bring in the backpack anymore so he doesn't have to worry so much about potential bullying situations in the future, leave it up for him and his folks to decide. Then, punish the bullies to set an example that this kind of shitty behavior shouldn't be happening. It gives the kid fair warning and makes the school look a hell of a lot more competent.
Or the schools could actually fucking do something about bullying to let people express themselves without fear.
what do you expect them to do? it's not gonna be just one kid calling him a faggot, its gonna be a group of people and a few of them probably won't give a shit about any punishment they get anyways

It's a prevention measure but it'll have its own consequences.
People will just find something else to pick on a kid for, I find most "bronies" annoying, but I don't see the point in banning MLP shit. Deal with the fucking bullies.

If I got in trouble for bullying some kid, my parents would have kicked my ass. Sadly other parents don't care as much, or tend to side with their kid rather than the school.

Neither is really wrong, just if you pick your principles then you have to find other ways to get around the bullying. Like fucking the main bully's dad.
The reaction would be different if a girl with a transformers bag was given the same treatment by a school. Feminists do recognize that is bad for boys get get bullied for liking girly things and goes against gender equality Here is a short huff post article on this.
While MLP fans might be MLP fans, they usually don't hurt anything with their presence outside of mildly annoying avatars.
You feel hurt by a tiny image other people use? That sounds pathetic. Back on topic, I feel the kid got himself into a lose-lose situation by wearing the thing in the first place. Either he gets bullied or he ditches the backpack...and then gets bullied anyway. However, that's not an excuse for such an ass-backwards decision like this one.
And nothing will change. The bullies will still know that he likes it. The bullies will make things worse for the kid because they now know their bullying worked perfectly. I would not be surprised if this kid was driven to suicide later on because of this bullshit. I really, really, hate how the majority of school systems handles bullying in America, possibly even in other countries. And I hate how people must fear massive repercussions from expressing themselves or just even slightly openly liking something, even from an early age.
I don't blame his school banning him from wearing My Little Pony backpack, because it makes him less then a man for wearing My Little Pony backpack anyway, but doesn't mean that I support him getting bullied TBH.
A real man doesn't bend to the will of people who try to tell him what to do.
And nothing will change. The bullies will still know that he likes it. The bullies will make things worse for the kid because they now know their bullying worked perfectly.
As someone who was and still is bullied over tastes/distates, I can tell you that even if he changes how he acts, he'll forever be remembered as "that brony kid", at least in that school. As much as I wish there's was a more satisfying solution, I'd say the best he could do is go to another school and ditch the backpack, because no matter how much you try to change them, bullies will always be bullies, and they're pretty much everywhere.
you forget... middleschoolers are the most vile shortsighted horrible pieces of shit until they get to highschool, they will bully (in some cases to death) anything that is not like the other, also they will bully anyone who doesn't stand up for themselves. schools don't advocate fighting back, and mine certainly didn't with its zero-tollerance policy, but bloodying a bully's nose will make him reconsider
How can we forget? A considerable portion of FPers are that age.
I don't blame his school banning him from wearing My Little Pony backpack, because it makes him less then a man for wearing My Little Pony backpack anyway, but doesn't mean that I support him getting bullied TBH.
If someone can own up to liking something not made for them and not be ashamed of it in the slightest, that makes them a bigger "man". At least in my book.
A real man doesn't bend to the will of people who try to tell him what to do.
The "real man" and "real woman" ideals are dumb and are just a no true scotsman fallacy expanded over the entire population just let people do what they're comfortable with, for fuck's sake, and fucking respect them
A real man doesn't bend to the will of people who try to tell him what to do.
Common sense would be "If the bullies are mocking me because of this; then maybe I shouldn't be seen doing this."
Common sense would be "If the bullies are mocking me because of this; then maybe I shouldn't be seen doing this."
No, it would be "If the bullies are mocking me because of this; then maybe the school should do something about THEM."
Common sense would be "If the bullies are mocking me because of this; then maybe I shouldn't be seen doing this."
people get bullied by others in school environments for the most trivial reasons ever, including just existing.
I don't blame his school banning him from wearing My Little Pony backpack, because it makes him less then a man for wearing My Little Pony backpack anyway, but doesn't mean that I support him getting bullied TBH.
Where are the MRAs when you need them.
Common sense would be "If the bullies are mocking me because of this; then maybe I shouldn't be seen doing this."
But that's giving in to their desires, that's exactly what they want. And then they'll move on to the next thing, till it's gone.. And then the next thing. Until they've stripped you of everything about you, and you have nothing left of yourself but a husk.
The "real man" and "real woman" ideals are dumb and are just a no true scotsman fallacy expanded over the entire population just let people do what they're comfortable with, for fuck's sake, and fucking respect them
Is this some kind of personal poke at me. Cause if it is then I will be sad.
