• Americans keep buying a lot of pizza, while the restaurant industry is otherwise stagnant

The reason I like pizza is because it reminds me of happier times when things weren't so complicated and stressful. You grab a pizza and a 2 liter bottle of soda, sit down with a buddy and play video games, everything just becomes so simple and happy. It's almost like a relic of the 90s, just a shining moment of optimism and joy covered with enough mozzarella cheese to clog your arteries.
As a New Yorker what on earth is Dominos, Papa Johns and Pizza Hut? If it's from out of state, why bother?
Papa John's in New York City gives 50% off pizzas the day after the NY Rangers score 3 goals. The NY Rangers are the highest scoring team in the NHL.
I live in the city so it's mandated by law that thirty pizza places occupy every 1 square mile radius, so we never bother with Pizza Hut or Dominos or Papa's because you can get better for cheaper much quicker by throwing a rock and hitting a random pizza place.
papa and dominos are pretty good pizza hut is pretty garbage tho
Here in Mass: Dominos' top. Papa John's middling. Local pizza joints' generally meh. Pizza Hut is garbage. Supermarket pizza is cheap garbage.
Laziness will be the end of us all.

I still support that while Papa/Dominos are good, its rather nice getting a take-n-bake from say Papa Murphy's. Plus their cheesey breadsticks and cookie dough are the work of god.
Most restaurants around here suck dick, that's why. The good ones are way too expensive or busy all the time. It's much easier to spend $12 on an entire pizza (which is kind of difficult to fuck up) I'll eat for dinner and lunch the next day rather than $20 on some pasta fish I don't even really enjoy. [editline]22nd December 2016[/editline] Fast food pizza is the devil and anyone who likes it should move to the moon
Local pizza place down the road from me gets my business on average.. say twice a week.
Dominos/Pizza hut prices in the UK are eye-gouging even with the discounts/offers they do in comparison to local places. At full price they are double/triple what you'd usually pay in a local place. I'm not sure it's common for towns in the US to have a lot of locally run takeouts, for example I live fairly out the way of a city and I have 62 takeaways of every variety to order from online right now, a lot of those pizza places outprice Domino's and are far nicer imo.
This, you'd have to be a fucking maniac to buy from Dominos/Pizza Hut/Pappa Johns in the UK. The prices are ludicrously high. There's an amazing authentic Italian pizza restaurant in my city centre that does £6 a pizza (less than half the price) and its incredible. The place is always packed.
I always try to get local pizza since I live in Chicago, and Chicago pizza is best Pizza

There are a wealth of local pretenders too: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=TAKEAWAY+PIZZA+IN+STEVENAGE&rlz=1C1CHBF_en-GBGB685GB685&oq=TAKEAWAY+PIZZA+IN+STEVENAGE&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l2.12591j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#safe=off&q=TAKEAWAY+PIZZA+IN+STEVENAGE&rflfq=1&rlha=0&rllag=51909064,-205352,547&tbm=lcl&tbs=ls:-1,lf_msr:-1,lf_od:-1,lf_oh:-1,lf:1,lf_ui:9,lf_pqs:EAE
It's weird that restaurants are actually cheaper than pizza in the U.K. I can get a Sunday roast (with sirloin beef) at a pub ran by a Michelin chef for less than a single large pizza from dominos, then again the pub doesn't deliver.

There are trucks on NYC's street with gigantic Papa John's signs that sell a whole fucking pie for a few dollars. It's so goddamn cheap there. [editline]22nd December 2016[/editline] I'm assuming at this point you're not near the city, because why the hell wouldn't you eat the street vendor food? It's so cheap and tasty (also unhealthy as fuck, but who the hell cares).

One of the two left has awful service, wait times and prices every time I enter but at least the last time I went there they fucked up and gave me a free pizza. Wasn't worth it. In true Rochesterian fashion, we have this hangover cure called garbage plates. It's potato or fries, macaroni or beans, a meat or grilled cheese and topped with a spicy meat sauce. In dangerously Rochesterian fashion, you can get in pizza form.

The trend I've seen is that people are eating less often at chain restaurants and choosing local businesses instead.
Here in central New Jersey I've got 6 pizza places surrounding me within a mile radius. The only times I don't order local pizza is when I want a fucked up pizza with fuckloads of toppings, in which case I go for papa johns.
I mean when you can get two medium pizzas for like $12 that can feed me for days.
