A 40-year-old puzzle of superstring theory solved by supercomputer
I think it's been falsifiable for a while.
Someone call our resident physicist aVon for clarification.
Last I heard it was only falsifiable in that it took for granted other shit which was, so if you falsified existing physics shit you'd falsify it. Which means isn't really falsifiable at all on its own merits, but I only loosely follow this shit, so maybe I'm wrong.
A group of three researchers from KEK, Shizuoka University and Osaka University has for the first time revealed the way our universe was born with 3 spatial dimensions from 10-dimensional superstring theory in which spacetime has 9 spatial directions and 1 temporal direction
My brain is mindscrewed on the first sentence.
The computer said "42".
I'll put it simple:
When the calculation of the mighty spacetime dimension hypercubic champion from the galaxy of Xorbon in the 10th dimension detained the princess of Hyrule, the big bang occurred from the energy of their procreation (the friction of their glistening bodies rubbing against each other)
Now it all makes sense!

I have no idea what this is about, goes way over my head. Our third dimensional world being born from a ten dimensional world? I don't even...
The other 7 dimensions are too weak for this world.
The Controllers of the universe will not be pleased that we have made it this far
They're pulling our strings in the right direction.

That just blew my mind
I lack the smarts and knowledge to understand what any of this means at all. Did they basically just discover how everything started? Or did they figure out how the big bang theory was possible? Or did they discover evidence that could possibly sort of conclude something I don't understand about string theory?

So the deal with string theory is that it needs 9 spatial dimensions and one temporal dimension.
The problem is we've only really observed 3 spatial dimensions and one temporal dimension.
The researchers have modeled a way in which the universe can start off with 10 dimensions and only end up having 4 observable dimensions in most places.

This made everything more confusing.

Get that nonsense out of here! Carl Sagan's about to educate you:

Much better explains it.
Yeah, listen to Carl Sagan guys.
Anyway, I have another idea how one could imagine 4th dimension:
0 dimensional object - point
1 dimensional object - line - an infinite, continuous sequence of points. A line is simply a sum of infinitely many points between point A and B.
2 dimensional object - square (filled) - a sum of infinitely many lines stacked in a direction.
3 dimensional object - cube - a sum of infinitely many squares between square A and square B.
4 dimensional object - hypercube - a sum of infinitely many cubes that extends between cube A and cube B.

how did we observe a temporal dimension
and haven't we only represented the first two dimensions, not actually seen them?
