Cause people are really going to pull out another map and double check it with the gps you use. Please, if half of you can even drive and have a phone/gps then you just put the address in and follow it.
I check the entirety of the route before I actually start following it just to make sure everything is in order and so that I can preempt it at certain times instead of hoping it tells me at the right moment.
They probably won't be able to sue because Apple will pull some bullshit card saying they advised people not to use it
Either that or they'll try to copyright the park itself like they tried to do so with page flipping
another nail in Apple's coffin!!!
reminds me of this
-snip- I'm an idiot. -unsnip- no I'm not. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Murray-Sunset+National+Park+weather
Celsius.
Really? the majority disagreed this post, it's in Victoria Australia. Australia uses Celcius. Its 115 degrees in your crazy measurement.
I blame the people more than iOS. People should already know that when they use a GPS they should be double checking the routes against other maps and be using it as either a supplement or as a last resort.
I don't know a single person who does this. I think you're over thinking it a bit too much.
-snip- im an idiot.
Shhhh.. Let the idiots have their moment.
Shhhh.. Let the idiots have their moment.
They aren't idiots, I just realized I wasn't wrong. Snipped to go with the majority. Majority was wrong.
temperatures can reach as high as 46 degrees,
I feel stupid for taking 10 seconds to figure out it must be Celsius.
I feel stupid for taking 10 seconds to figure out it must be Celsius.
How do you think I feel, I live in Australia and I know that it's a valid temperature.
maybe motorists should have some god damn common sense and not blindly follow a GPS wherever it tells you to go
When GPS were first a thing, it told us to follow an ATV trail down a mountain. You try that shit with a car and you'll end up stuck and / or upside-down.
You would have to be really stupid to think that isnt a joke
It's a joke now, but it started off as a bug in their direction code (Which is still around, as shown in some cities that extend into bodies of water, they've just replace the "drive across ocean" with "kayak across ocean")
Please don't start this, both devices have their ups and downs
Okay so you can get some of the nicest hardware with a quad core processor, 2GB of memory, an operating system that has numerous features iOS doesn't and the ones that it does have, Google has improved on it and you get updates as soon as Google releases them for $300 off contract versus the iPhone's $650 off contract. I drive all over the place and other than one instance where it got confused with two addresses that were the same (in the same zipcode/city area mind you) I have never had an issue. I have never had an issue with my alarm not going off because "Google fucked up" and I have never had a device lose reception because I "hold it the wrong way". Was Android shit three years ago? It definitely wasn't the experience it is now and to anyone that was turned off by Android 2-3 years ago should give it another go.
For all the crap Apple got for "You're holding it the wrong way", the only phone I've ever owned that has experienced something like that, was a Nokia. Which is probably why the manual that came with the phone showed the correct way of holding it vs. what they considered the wrong way.
To think people used to travel hundreds, if not thousands of miles by stars. Nowadays folks can't use GPS properly...
To think people used to travel hundreds, if not thousands of miles by stars. Nowadays folks can't use GPS properly...
I'd think that when people fucked up navigation using the stars they were probably never heard from again.
Please don't start this, both devices have their ups and downs
Well at least android devices come with a GPS that freaking works :v: [sup][sup]This was a joke and I don't want to start a debate on anything I have an iPhone and I don't favor any of the current phone operating systems that exist please don't kill me[/sup][/sup]
maybe motorists should have some god damn common sense and not blindly follow a GPS wherever it tells you to go
It simply shows how much we depend on certain technology. I personally am not the greatest when it comes to travel (despite me moving and going on trips all the fucking time) but i do not use GPS 100%. I use it with a combination of regular maps and print outs. Everyone should always carry an up-to-date version of nation/state/local maps really..
They probably won't be able to sue because Apple will pull some bullshit card saying they advised people not to use it
I don't know how much of a lawsuit you could make against GPS software in any case.

It's the maps app that's a load of horse dung. [sup][sup][sup][sup]Disclaimer: This post is not meant to be taken as a recommendation or denouncement of any major smartphone platform.
here's what the national park looks like: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2d/Pink_Lakes_at_Murray_Sunset_NP.JPG/800px-Pink_Lakes_at_Murray_Sunset_NP.JPG
where are the swings
I feel pretty confident in my GPS dunno about you.
I still try to double check it anyway just in case. It's good to have a second opinion.
I still try to double check it anyway just in case. It's good to have a second opinion.
If digital maps can be designed incorrectly, what stops this happening to paper maps? If anything, a digital map is most likely going to be more accurate because it generally updates itself. But obviously if anyone's been keeping up with technology news, they'd know Apple maps isn't great. On the other hand, I would trust Google Maps completely
Celsius.
Why are people rating disagree? It's an Australian article, so it would use celcius. Simple.
This wouldn't happen with android users :)
Actually it very well could. The Google Maps app AND the VZ Navigator app on my Droid 3 have tried to steer me wrong a couple times. I already knew where I was so I wasn't paying it any attention, but it told me to stay on one freeway that was a parking lot when I knew a better route that was flowing fine, and it took three miles to stop telling me to turn around.

So if they don't get that information, the navigator can't adjust.
Fortunately these people had their phones with them, so they could call for help.

You still have to be dumb as hell to do something like this, I always thought it was pretty easy to see an error in the gps when it tells you to do a uturn on the motorway
70km off? Oh that's just sad.
I'd think that when people fucked up navigation using the stars they were probably never heard from again.
This was really inaccurate and only really used on open sea. It has nothing to do with navigating close knit city's or streets.
