It was always legal to own and play, it just wasn't allowed to be sold in stores.
It was even legal to sell and buy the "banned" games in stores, they just weren't allowed to advertise it (by putting it on the shelves).
It was even legal to sell and buy the "banned" games in stores, they just weren't allowed to advertise it (by putting it on the shelves).
True, forgot that, probably because I never buy games here.
It was illegal? Look out, guys. Here comes Doom. It'll corrupt your children and turn them into serial killers. I can kind of understand Wolfenstein, but why Doom?
Because they don't want the innocent little children to think that monsters from Hell are bad.
I heard that there is a law in Germany, that you aren't allowed to ride a bike on roads before turning 14. Could be wrong.
You are allowed to ride a bike on the sidewalk until you are 14. After that you must drive on the street when there is no bike lane.
Jeez. Germany, we forgive you, your debts have been paid. You don't have to ban all things violent anymore
It was even legal to sell and buy the "banned" games in stores, they just weren't allowed to advertise it (by putting it on the shelves).
But it's obviously not sold in stores anymore, so why did these news even have to come out?
but you can already play any game legally if you're over 18. [editline]31st August 2011[/editline] this will never happen.
Oh.. Did not know that.
Well now to fix this:
that headcrab teleported back to the xen from where it came
Now fucking take Quake 1 + 2 off the index, BPfjM, I want to buy them on Steam.
OD on DooM
But it's obviously not sold in stores anymore, so why did these news even have to come out?
Sensationalism. You should always take news with a grain of salt because they might be angled some way or another.
Germany is Doomed now!
It's funny how the censorship only brought the developer a disadvantage - people would still get the games they want, either by importing it ( some exporters are specialized on Germany - a few austria websites which make loads of money by overpricing the games ) or illegally downloading it ( no profit for anyone ).
I would be a very happen German right about now. Or maybe not since I doubt I'd know how fun Doom is :P
It was illegal? Look out, guys. Here comes Doom. It'll corrupt your children and turn them into serial killers. Games that have been banned in Germany expire after 10 years. Wouldn't Mortal Kombat 1-3 be unbanned by now since it's been banned for 10+years?
Games that have been banned in Germany expire after 10 years. Wouldn't Mortal Kombat 1-3 be unbanned by now since it's been banned for 10+years?
Doom was banned for 17 years.
I would be a very happen German right about now. Or maybe not since I doubt I'd know how fun Doom is :P
how have you never played Doom how
I was okay with the censorship
dumbest post
dumbest post
I agree, Kamerad! How can a government deciding what their citizens are allowed to play be okay?
how have you never played Doom how
I meant if I was German, would I really understand what I've been missing? How many Germans are gonna pick up Doom for the first time today. I still play Doom, especially coop with my friends, but a game that is so old, and banned for so long, Idk how many would go back and play it. Idk how that was so difficult to understand.
Suddenly Doom becomes popular and gets sold in all the game stores again, but only in Germany.
Thanks for the dumbs guys, you missed the sarcasm by a fucking planet.
Censorship doesn't work when everyone has already seen it... [editline]31st August 2011[/editline]
Suddenly Doom becomes popular and gets sold in all the game stores again, but only in Germany.
I can already see the piracy going up.
I agree, Kamerad! How can a government deciding what their citizens are allowed to play be okay?
As an Australian who has to deal with this censorship nanny state bullshit too I agree with this.
Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien
Oh German language, never change.
