Yikes, pulling the apk and putting it on dropbox...
As some one who manages adword campaigns, I completely support this. As people in this thread were saying it's essential for devs to get their app out for free
what? AT&T disallowing sideloading on Android? Source?
I think this applies to certain phones, or the phones that are exclusive to AT&T.
question about adblock on Windows browsers, does that make you more secure or does it just not render the add but still load it?
it removes ads
what? AT&T disallowing sideloading on Android? Source?
They did it back in 2010. Idk if they changed their minds because I've had mine rooted since then.
It really depends on the person. Seeing adverts all over the webpage/application I'm using pisses me off, hence why I block them.
I think we can all agree that the best thing AdBlock ever gave us was the ability to block flash ads. God, those flash ads... With SOUND.
I've always preferred putting this list in hosts, personally.
Fuck.
People are making billions with ads but do people really click on them? The only time I ever clicked on an internet ad was a misclick.
If ads were restricted to static image or text only, I'd be happy to disable adblock. Until then, it just significantly slows the page down and the flash ones are just a virus waiting to happen. Also get rid of those video ads that make you watch a 1 minute ad to watch a 10 second video...
I only use adblock on my nexus if I'm playing a game riddled with in-game advertising because its fucking annoying, unless its done in angry birds where its in the far right and it doesnt effect gameplay
I only use adblock on my nexus if I'm playing a game riddled with in-game advertising because its fucking annoying, unless its done in angry birds where its in the far right and it doesnt effect gameplay
Last time I played the free Angry Birds, whenever an ad appeared my framerate tanked, then returned to normal the second it went away
If Google ever finds a way to remove adblock from Chrome, I'll flip out.
I never click ads, and they just annoy me, so why should I not block them?
If Google ever finds a way to remove adblock from Chrome, I'll flip out.
You'd just have to side-load the adblock extension then.
Switch to Chromium.
But i like the Google features that are Chrome only
what? AT&T disallowing sideloading on Android? Source?
They have been doing it for quite some time (several years in fact). It only affects AT&T branded phones running the factory ROM. They just remove the "install from unknown sources" option in the settings. Many people root to re-enable that. It doesn't affect unlocked phones in the slightest since its just a ROM modification.
does anyone know where I can get an APK for a good adblock app?
Installed the free Angry Birds today, and an advert came up after every 2-3 bird launches that took up literally 1/2 of my phone's screen. Uninstalled 5 minutes later and won't be installing it again. Fuck Rovio don't you have enough money?
You should ask for a refund.
Unfortunately, for Google, they can just upload the apps onto the internet somewhere and have users download and install it to their phones from the computer, which is what I hope they do.
You should ask for a refund.
At least it's the newest version. PSN Angry Birds is the same as the iPhone version when it launched.
question about adblock on Windows browsers, does that make you more secure or does it just not render the add but still load it?
On Firefox it stops the ads being downloaded at all, but on Chrome it used to just stop them being rendered. It may have changed for Chrome now though.
AdBlock's response: https://adblockplus.org/blog/adblock-plus-for-android-removed-from-google-play-store. More importantly for those who were wondering if they could still install it:
What does that mean for existing users? Users who already have Adblock Plus installed will be able to continue using it. However, they will no longer get updates which means that they should install our next release from our website once it is out. How will people install Adblock Plus now? Installing Adblock Plus from our website will still be possible. We will also add Adblock Plus to all alternative app stores to make sure it’s easier to find. The next release will also have automatic updates that are independent from the Google Play store (not quite as comfortable unfortunately) so updating manually will no longer be necessary.

How does Opera's work?
In opera you need to toggle the flash based contents before it even loads it.
Amusingly, the apps still show up in google searches (with the rating no less), but the store returns a 404 upon trying to click them. Here's a test search to try it with. Here's a better one that only gives you Play Store results. So either the apps were pulled on mistake, Google is trying to pull a fast one on the guys blocking Adwords, or some other inane thing is happening.
If I put 100 hours+ into a project, then it would absolutely kill me to see people removing the ads. :(
