Only 155mm non-lethal bean bag rounds.
cockfighting is legal where i live so i don't know if this is regular protocol...
The actual tank in question is visible in the video here:

It's a little 4 wheel non treaded APC. Nothing like a real tank. And this isn't the first time it's been in the news either. I remember a while back at one point the driver lost control of it and ended up on someones car.
Here's a picture...

Hahah it looks like there is a bench on the roof of that thing.
I really doubt they have a tank.
It is very likely just an armored vehicle.
Windows get blown out when you throw flashbangs into a building.
This is how SWAT serves high risk arrest warrants in virtually every county across the country. If they have reason to suspect that there will be a problem, then they go in with overwhelming force.
I live in Maricopa- we do indeed have an APC.
We have a Bravia like this one, except in tan and has a water turret on top.

lol at the people in this thread thinking it was an M1A2 abrams tank

Aye, that is what most departments seem to deploy.

I don't think anyone in the thread thought it was an M1A2.
Furthermore if they were going to somehow magically get their hands on an M1, it would be an M1A1.

Our SORT unit uses a Lenco BearCat.
That's right, its a motherfucking BEARCAT
talk about overkill
This is all very silly and I would have been greatly amused at watching it happen.

yeah, maricopa's got one of those too. there's a show on discovery about the maricopa swat/sheriff shit.

So it's even less of a tank than I assumed they meant.
My girlfriend calls anything with armor plating a tank. Most people do.

This is what SWAT teams use when they need to breach a building. You can see that they come from a huge variety of counties.
They wouldn't use a tank. Tanks damage roads, are expensive and difficult to maintain, and aren't fast enough. You want a wheeled vehicle capable of reaching highway speeds.
Dynamic entry is all about speed and surprise. You are going to know a tank is coming.
Maybe they... used a tank.
They brought steven segal. Thats like bringing a howitzer with you when you do traffic duty.
Considering Segal's career, I'd say more like bringing a cap gun to a warzone
I don't see why people are even debating this. If you're going to execute a raid or warrant and use SWAT why go in half assed? Use all the shit you got, the tax payers paid for it right so why leave it sitting in a garage sitting and collecting dust.
My agency has a APC and when it snows or we get some crazy weather they'll take it out and tow people out of ditches.
By Tank, they probably mean something like one of these:

[img_thumb]http://policecars.trafficdan.com/PENNSYLVANIA/MONTCO/CentralMontcoSWAT/tank%20003.jpg[/img_thumb]
A lot of people not interested in military equipment tend to assumed "Tracks = Tank".
My guess is that is was an APC, which sounds more practical to me.

maybe they had an old Patton, there's a national guard depot within half an hour of my house that seems to have a few so maybe they found one too
The Times (Don't judge me, it was the only paper they had on the plane) read that it was for his TV show and the suspect would have gone quietly.
Wouldn't it be more cost effective to send a few cop cars down?
Wouldn't it be more cost effective to send a few cop cars down?
they are venturing into the unknown - they don't know what will be there so logically it'd be best to bring the big guns and shit
I want to see the episode this is featured in.
This is like bringing an Apache helicopter just to take down a pickpocket
Shh, don't give him ideas.
For future reference, this is the "tank"

It's a self propelled gun, probably (obviously) deactivated.
From their website:
Sheriff Arpaio takes his war on drugs to the streets with our new "Tank". Well, actually it's a self propelled "Howitzer" emblazoned with anti-drug messages and a new tool to educate our children of the dangers of drug abuse. The Howitzer was donated by the Department of Defense and we are proud to have the ultimate weapon on the war on drugs in our arsenal. Kids are given a program which includes audio and video displays on the dangers of drug abuse.

I would bring a howitzer to traffic duty.
Then they would listen to my hand signals for sure.

If you had read the thread, you would have found out that it was a 4 wheeled armored vehicle and not a self propelled howitzer. What you are talking about is a display piece that is most certainly not taken to a cockfighting incident.

No, that's the Howitzer.
It was already mentioned that the so called "Tank" was little more than an Armoured Car.

Damnit, late.
The way the article is written leads me to believe that they drove this thing (it's on rubber treads) for a publicity stunt (which isn't uncommon when doing raids). People in this thread have SPECULATED that it was an armored car.
It said there were two armored vehicles, why can't there be both.
They should have used M1A2's.
Thank god they saved those animals from such cru
