Rob the guy with the shotgun, then the unarmed dude? I mean, that way I'm up one shotgun that can't be traced to me, and that gives me more of an advantage over the unarmed and other armed dudes.
Sure you will get a advantage if your body isn't full of shotgun pellets after the first robbery. In real life you rather take the safest and least risky way to rob somebody.
Besides you can easily get a shotgun by just buying it illegally in the black market with whatever the unarmed dude money's worth.

Yeah. But then I've paid for something and would feel like less of a thief :v: Considering a lot of black market weapons are stolen from private owners, sellers or post-production. Stealing the shotgun isn't totally out of the question. Just not straightforward.
Guns should be used for hunting and practice shooting, not "fighting crime." Title is pretty misleading though. They should give them guns and say "Hey don't use it unless you absolutely need to." Article makes it sound like they are encouraging people to shoot over crime not self defense.
yeah except they're not handing out shotguns and encouraging vigilantism, they're teaching people how to use firearms and what to do during home defense scenarios. The thread title is about as misleading as it gets.
Having a gun encourages vigilantism just by it being a gun.
ahahahahahahahahahahah
because owning something potentially destructive instantly puts you on a power trip lmfao
The fuck? Shotguns??!
You're not fighting crime, you're arming noobs!
Having a gun encourages vigilantism just by it being a gun.
The US has the 12th highest firearm-related death rate in the world and only 2.7% of gun homicides in the US are justifiable homicides according to VPC (https://www.vpc.org/press/1304self.htm)
I'm not saying everyone who owns a gun is gonna go and shoot someone, i appreciate that a lot of guns are used for sport and leisure, but this article is about giving guns explicitely to stop crime, and guns are used far more for crime than for stopping it, which is why America has such truly horrifying number of mass shootings (250 so far this year)
Well I have a knife, better go vigilante right
Having a gun encourages vigilantism just by it being a gun.
cause even after all the training US Army and some Marines get, they cower in the face of a firefight
just because you have a gun, doesn't always mean you're willing to take a life at whim
Stupid? More like free shotguns.
how's that not stupid
So why is it illegal to own, say, an RPG?
huh? I don't follow your logic there bud. A home defense shotgun differs pretty greatly from an anti tank rocket launcher.

it doesn't make you more willing but it makes it more likely that you will
Well if owning a shotgun is fine because you probably won't use it, then surely owning an RPG is fine too.
lmfao thats really shitty logic bro
that rivals the one time someone on here compared firearms ownership to owning nuclear weapons

Seriously though, the US is just behind Costa Rica, Mexico and Honduras for gun homicides. If having such liberal gun laws is so great, why do all developed countries with strict gun control have such low gun homicide rates?
Different cultures, social climates, healthcare systems, and poverty levels are all factors. Look at Switzerland for example.
I'll agree with you about the fact that there are a lot of different factors at work here rather than just attitudes towards gun control, i'd just argue that the lack of firearm control is one of the biggest contributing factors.
Thats not necessarily true. At all. I'll just point at Switzerland again as they still have very lax gun laws, all thats required is a permit. You can even buy bolt actions or single shots over there without a permit. It's also legal to own select fire firearms with special permitting. Around 30% of the total households over there have some amount of firearms in them. And with all that, firearm homicide rates are incredibly low.
brb getting free shotgun
(i'm serious)
There are some people who think doing this will turn the neighbors into criminals when they otherwise wouldn't have been
And there are also those who think this is a bad idea because the criminals would get hurt trying to fuck with them
If you're breaking into someone's home, which usually the actions following which do harm to the people in the home, I give zero fucks if you get hurt. You're a scumbag for breaking into someone's home, if you get shot because of it, that's your bad, maybe you shouldn't break into houses, people tend to be protective of their home and family, crazy theory we got there!

Population density, rural vs urban areas, poverty levels...
So why is it illegal to own, say, an RPG?
You can own an RPG, it's just listed as a Destructive Device under the National Firearms Act of 1934. Each shell needs to be tax stamped for $300 ontop of the base price.
In short, yes... You can own an RPG and the ammo for it.

Look at the post I was replying too, then the post he was replying too.
Except knife homicide rates are incredibly low compared to gun homicide rates.
Actually violent crimes are much more prevelant with knives than they are with shotguns:

Take pictures
lmao america
reminds me of the phd candidate who did this in arizona or colorado or some shit for their dissertation
wonder what ever happened to that
Moving to florida.
I just wish I lived in a county in which there never WAS a gun problem, let alone one we now have to solve.
I just wish I lived in a county in which there never WAS a gun problem, let alone one we now have to solve.
Sorry but I don't think you'll find a country on the face of the planet that has never had to deal with guns in some capacity.
So why is it illegal to own, say, an RPG?
uhhh
if you have enough money and time, you can have pretty much any weapon you want. (Obvious exceptions such as chemical weapons)
A psychological test wouldn't be a bad idea either.
A psychological test wouldn't be a bad idea either.
The fun thing about psychological tests is that anyone can lie through their fucking teeth.
This will have no effect on anything. I doubt the suburb had any crime to speak of. Just more stupid Southern gun nuts.
I still don't get how handing out shotguns will really help people protect themselves.
1. You can really only carry it around inside. On the streets this won't protect anyone.
2. If you are following proper gun safety you should have the gun locked up. If someone were to break in you most likely would not have time to get it out.
3. Even if you don't have it locked up where can you keep it for easy access? A pistol you can hide pretty much anywhere, but a shotgun can't be stored too many proper places.

Dunno, my Uncle keeps his in a safe and he had time to get his out and loaded in time when someone broke into his house. It's not like it takes a ton of time to get it out of a safe or something, unless your safe is past the guy who broke into your house or something.
