People should read this more before saying hes an idiot for not checking it was loaded.
Its muzzle loaded he cant unload it, he fired it in the air to empty the chamber.
Why he fired in the air instead of the ground is beyond me.
You can also use a 'ball puller' to unload a muzzleloader. It's basically a screw you attach to the ramrod or a range rod, stab it into the lead ball and screw it in a little ways then forcefully yank the ball out of the barrel. Then you need to use a patch worm to entangle the patch and pull it out if it didn't come out with the ball, then dump out the powder.
Doesn't always work, doing it wrong can swell the ball up in the barrel and make it impossible to remove by hand and then you have to fire it to clear the barrel.
Most people opt for just shooting the gun into a stump or firing into a shallow hole in the ground to empty it.
