I use to live in America for a few years

and I asked a bunch of questions while in school to the kids

Most were 16 - 17

most couldn't answer who Al Quidea and the Taliban were.

Seriously. Documents and books are great for learning. Now I know how kidney-stones are removed or how Varicose vein is fixed.

And yeah, it's only 1/20 kids that think Hitler was a football coach.

I stumbled onto my dad watching Saving Private Ryan (yes, the first scene) when I was 6, prompting a swift education on WWII.

I have had a skewed view on the world ever since, but was still surprised when 17 year old people (in a History 11 course) said this was entirely new to them. After going through that, I'm not surprised with these findings at all.
