If it can go through what amounts to a bone armor plate at 500 yards, it's lethal as fuck. In fact, in the days before smokeless powder based cartridges, a common test for firearm power was done by seeing if the bullet can go through a certain amount of pine boards at a set range.

Even though he said he "swallowed the bullet" it actually just blew out of his mouth and just tried to sound hard core. Meaning that round went through his cheek and out the window of the car, and we do not know where that projectile is going all for the sake of attention which will end up costing time and resources from the city by being in the hospital from people who have been legitimately hurt for accidental or tragic reasons. So yeah if he is going to hurt himself, better do it in a place where the bullet wont exit and possibly hit someone. If he kills himself doing so I won't cry over it.

People live there. And beyond that the dude shoot himself in the face with his friend in the god damn car in said residential area in broad daylight and you have faith that he was has any sense at all let alone that he would do it in a isolated area (which he obviously did not)? They floored the gas petal immediately after he shot for both the reasons that he has to now go to the hospital and that people would probably call the police reporting a gunshot. Does he need help? Sure, but I would rather have someone with a mental illness hurt himself fatally with a firearm than to injure himself and hit an innocent.
