No, that is how normal people think. We are talking about southerners here. Most of them are still pissed off about loosing the Civil War and having to free there slaves, they would love a business that only served whites.
Congratulations, you are now a stereotyping asshole. Here's a newsflash for you: the Civil War ended over 150 years ago. We've let go of that, and most don't really give a shit. If you would read what Rand Paul said, it should be obvious that what he means is that he supports free speech whether he agrees with the person(or business) or not. Civil rights probably wasn't the best example he could have chosen, but his point remains the same.
so basically you support discrimination/bigotry.. it's their business so that makes it okay and right?
It brings up an important dialogue of when free speech really ends. What rights does a business owner have? What responsibilities does a business owner have? Who can he reserve the right to serve, if he can't discriminate based on race what right does he have to refuse service to anyone?
so basically you support discrimination/bigotry.. it's their business so that makes it okay and right?
Yeah because supporting the rights of other to be racist totally means he's racist too. Have you ever heard: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" I certainly don't think it's right to discriminate. But hey if someone doesn't want to accept your money because of your race, then whatever man. Take your money somewhere else. [editline]10:39PM[/editline] Here comes the slippery slope knee jerk response. "But if we let one person discriminate, all businesses will follow and minorities won't have anywhere to go"

For some reason it seems the less populated an area is the more racism and bigotry cultivates. You will see entire towns segregated if it is allowed to happen, and minorities will be forced out with the blessing of the government.
The "right to refuse" argument does not entirely work considering businesses receive benefits from the state and federal government. If they're gonna start discriminating against people, they're doing it with our tax dollars.

i actually thought rand paul was just an insult directed at ron paul when i saw the thread title i'm rather sad that it isn't
i actually thought rand paul was just an insult directed at ron paul when i saw the thread title i'm rather sad that it isn't
My reaction went from "haha Rand Paul that's a good joke name for Ron Paul" to "wait that's not actually Ron Paul that's a real person" to "haha holy shit Ron Paul named his kid RAND oh wow" Also a lot of you guys are sickenly self-centered and a good reminder of why the two-party system can be a good thing
Your conservative nonsense won't trick me, Cameron. How is arguing over racial laws self-centered? 95% of FP is white and male.
yeah, let's burn down their business because they're bigots!!
I'm not saying that, It's just going to happen. The stores are going to get spraypainted, have rocks thrown at the window, etc.
How is arguing over racial laws self-centered? 95% of FP is white and male.
That's what I'm saying, it's easy as hell to say anti-discrimination laws should be repealed in the NAME OF FREEDOM when you're not the one who will suffer as a result. It's actually kind of creepy--the Pauls seem to have a talent for rhetoric that makes even the less couth liberal lose all touch with reality.
That's what I'm saying, it's easy as hell to say anti-discrimination laws should be repealed in the NAME OF FREEDOM when you're not the one who will suffer as a result.
I completely agree, however not everyone on facepunch feels that these laws are racist. [editline]02:02AM[/editline] As long as people feel the laws are racist, there is a need for the laws.
My reaction went from "haha Rand Paul that's a good joke name for Ron Paul" to "wait that's not actually Ron Paul that's a real person" to "haha holy shit Ron Paul named his kid RAND oh wow"
Not related to Ayn Rand. His given first name is Randal. Rand is just what his wife started calling him, and even then it wasn't in reference to Ayn.
R.I.P. - RAND PAUL's political career (5/18/2010 - 5/19/2010)
R.I.P. - RAND PAUL's political career (5/18/2010 - 5/19/2010)
Except in the south.
Not related to Ayn Rand. His given first name is Randal. Rand is just what his wife started calling him, and even then it wasn't in reference to Ayn.
How can you be sure?
Not related to Ayn Rand. His given first name is Randal. Rand is just what his wife started calling him, and even then it wasn't in reference to Ayn.
I don't think TH89 was saying that, I think he was implying Ron Paul was foolish for naming his kid Rand.
How can you be sure?
[editline]02:11AM[/editline]
I don't think TH89 was saying that, I think he was implying Ron Paul was foolish for naming his kid Rand.
No I really don't think so
I completely agree, however not everyone on facepunch feels that these laws are racist.
Oh of course not, they'll just be used to the advantage of racist individuals. It's completely different :downs: That's freedom for you, freedom to be a total bigoted asshole. :patriot: These libertarian ideologies befuddle me sometimes. I'm all in favor of personal freedoms, but hey, part of freedom is just being able to get along with your fellow man and be treated with respect, even if that does rob somebody of their right to be an enormous asshole. (and express their beliefs by discriminating against you)

And you believe him? Come on dude this is like if Dennis Kucinich named his kid "Marx Kucinich" and then was like "oh, it has nothing to do with Karl Marx it's short for Marximillian" [editline]07:14AM[/editline] Also I would vandalize racist businesses
Oh of course not, they'll just be used to the advantage of racist individuals. The fact that we are able to go to school and do what we want our who lives means someone somewhere else in the world doesn't get that chance. Either people can be free to be racist, or be free to get the jobs they want and live their lives. The racist thing has worked for the last million or so years, now the government is trying a new approach.

"For many years as I kid I was Randy" has a totally different meaning in Australia and the UK.
Yeah but he was called Randy until he was married. Did Ron anticipate that his future wife would unwittingly turn his name into an Ayn Rand reference? [editline]02:17AM[/editline]
"For many years as I kid I was Randy" has a totally different meaning in Australia and the UK.
We know what that means here in the US as well, but some of us aren't 11

Believe in the free market, and you will be saved.
I mean it's not like he or Ron is ashamed of liking Ayn Rand. I'm sure if he'd thought of it Ron would have called him Ayn Reagan Rothbard Von Hayek Paul
If 4chan worships Ron Paul like he's a god, maybe there's some truth behind it.
I'd love to show his 4chan devotees this: http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul148.html
