The mental image of Ron Paul in emperor Palpatine's robes is pretty awesome
I still think Ron had it planned all along.
Desk isn't stupid. :saddowns:
More like Ayn Rand Paul.
I jest, I jest. We all love Ayn Rand.
yeah if you're in a fucking mental institution
Oh, the typical "libertarian" response to these things. They believe government should have no involvement in the affairs of a private business, be it hiring or who they decide to serve.
Of course the main reason why the government has put those things into place is that some people will deny service based on race or some other characteristic.
If I'm not mistaken Rand Paul said similar things about the Americans with Disabilities Act.

He's a total hack. As if he wasn't a Randroid like his father wasn't reason enough, the man is manly benefiting off tea party and tea-party like sentiments in his region. Just toss in some things about big gubmint, sugar coated statements about small businesses, and keep talking about the need for locally-designed policies...
I'm not mistaken Rand Paul said similar things about the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Well, there is a big problem with the Americans with Disabilities act in that it's making people not hire disabled people because they fear lawsuits.
Well, there is a big problem with the Americans with Disabilities act in that it's making people not hire disabled people because they fear lawsuits.
hiring someone because YOU fear a lawsuit is not the laws fault. it's yours
I don't think a lot of you get the point, it's their business if they want to deny someone because they dislike them they should be able to. That is freedom, the government shouldn't interfere and say your not allowed to deny customers because you dislike their race.

It's still the opposite of what the bill intended, though
It's still the opposite of what the bill intended, though
not really, it's the fault of the employer
it doesn't matter whose fault it is, there are still plenty of handicapped people not working, because of their handicaps
ok? and there are many gays unmarried who want to be married.
that is about as relevant as what you said.
not really, it's the fault of the employer
And? It creates an incentive for employers to not hire people. People will always act on incentives; that's basic economics. Ergo, the law doesn't work as intended.
ok? and there are many gays unmarried who want to be married.

what the fuck? no, I'm saying that the act that was made to help disabled Americans earn a livelihood through employment, is leading to them being denied job opportunities, thus rendering them unable to earn a livelihood, thus making the bill counter intuitive.
It's the same as saying that making gay marriage legal would make gays not want to marry, or something.
ok? and there are many gays unmarried who want to be married.

yes it is jesus christ. It was made with the intent of combatting a problem, and ended up having the exact opposite effect and making the problem that much worse by providing the businesses with the ultimatum and they, being fucking businesses, went with what benefited them most, namely denying employment to a minority that have been made a liability to the business. The law failed. The lawmakers failed. the businesses acted in their best interest, which is what businesses always do, always did, and always will do. this fact should have been put into consideration when this legislation was being written up.
It is very much the fault of the law
businesses will always act in self-interest, and we have to use that and give them an incentive to do things in the public interest
if this law is failing to do what it is intended to do then it's a shitty law
you can't blame the employers
