I'm sure you're not suggesting, just stating, but still appropriate.
How the fuck is distribution spying anyway? He didn't go whistling to a PC, copied files and walked away jolly good.
This. Absolutely this.
The entire thing is corrupt. It only furthers the entire point of Wikileaks by making up things against him...let's make him a martyr while we're at it, shall we?
perhaps the government has some secrets that they dont want let out me thinks and are willing to stop the freedom of the press right in order to keep it that way. not to say its a 9/11 cover up or anything
I really hope that if the US government go this far that what ever country he is in at the time stands up for what the majority of people think is right and not extradite him.
Although he would be pretty fucked if he was still in the UK, the extradition treaty is so one sided its insane.
Funny how US spy satellites are flying above our heads as we speak.
Not really the same thing, there, is it?
Good, then all the news networks can go back to reporting on more important things than this wikileaks bullshit

But it is no different to a newspaper publishing it, and (please correct me if I am wrong) I have never heard of a newspaper being hunted down with similar charges for publishing leaked documents.
And newspapers would get in trouble too.
Again, whistleblowing is LEGAL.
Releasing documents for the SOLE PURPOSE OF BEING A DICK AND CAUSING POLITICAL UNREST is ILLEGAL.
It's not the corruption documents getting him in trouble, its the ones which contain sensitive information which he had no business putting online.

Who decides where the line gets drawn
Because I don't think it's you

The courts.
Seeing as it only takes a spare few documents being released that show no signs of illegal activity, but are considered sensitive intelligence, to effectively fall under this act, I don't really see it playing out in his favor.

Could he not argue that the entire leak is a single document
Let's go break this cool man out.
Hopefully if they do try to charge him with espionage/spying, they'll send him to a fair court. Not some bullshit Military Tribunal.
Could he not argue that the entire leak is a single document
Given that the data was reviewed before being released, it wouldn't hold up in court.

I don't imagine he will go to a military tribunal. They tend to handle a different sort of case.
But you are correct, a tribunal would be quite unfair.
i wonder how they'll torture him first
Good, then all the news networks can go back to reporting on more important things than this wikileaks bullshit
FUCK having a better understanding of the conflict in the middle East and international relations, I want to hear about celebrities smoking pot!
i wonder how they'll torture him first
They won't torture him, they'll waterboard him :smug:

It's not illegal. Where the hell did you get that from
Provide evidence before you go around spewing bullshit
Why do you think Joe Lieberman and other reps are trying to pass the SHIELD Act. Obviously, if this were illegal there would be no need to introduce such legislation.
Selling goods known to be stolen is also a crime.
This is a sound accusation.

It really is a law.

(a) Whoever knowingly and willfully communicates, furnishes, transmits, or otherwise makes available to an unauthorized person, or publishes, or uses in any manner prejudicial to the safety or interest of the United States or for the benefit of any foreign government to the detriment of the United States any classified information—
(3) concerning the communication intelligence activities of the United States or any foreign government; or
(4) obtained by the processes of communication intelligence from the communications of any foreign government, knowing the same to have been obtained by such processes—
The term “communication intelligence” means all procedures and methods used in the interception of communications and the obtaining of information from such communications by other than the intended recipients;

Or, if that isn't sufficient:

That should about cover it.
And as far as legal whistleblowing goes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistleblower_Protection_Act
That law exists ENTIRELY so that you may report illegal conduct and remain safe.
Except not only is Assange not a whistleblower, but he doesn't work for the Federal government, so that doesn't even apply to him.
I'm also fairly certain that shield laws are designed, as the name implies, to shield sources. The government can't force you to tell them the source of the information.
Spy sappin mah confidential files!
Good, then all the news networks can go back to reporting on more important things than this wikileaks bullshit
Like Lindsay Lohan's recent drug addiction, or what Paris Hilton said about someone's shoes
I'm interested in how this plays out, simply because there's a question of jurisdiction.
Julian Assange didn't break into US computer networks, he didn't ask for this information, etc. It was simply uploaded to the Wikileaks website (which wasn't hosted in America). And if Julian Assange has apparently broken US law (while in another country), why haven't the other members of Wikileaks? (Since it's not a one person operation)
Assange sappin' my government?
Jesus Christ grow up, this stopped being funny about 10 years ago. How can you still think always spewing the same bullshit TF2 references all over the place is still funny?
I'm trying to read a discussion here and then there's these goddamn kids who think nothing is funnier than shouting out references to their favorite game which is even more annoying than those who like to exclaim that "they should kill assange cuz i dont like him ok".
I bet you never even leave your house and when you do you're more awkward than your mother in a bikini.
If he goes down for good, or anything bad happens to him, he's going to be martyrd and somewhere down the line the government will get a giant dick in the ass. Hopefully they just smarten the fuck up now and then we can avoid all the unpleasentries?

He'd be protected under the First Amendment.
Give me aliens dammit.
