Didn't John Oliver talk shit about this guy, saying that he was like Trump, but with a bigger ego? Why would they let this guy become President?
Same reason why Trump is popular to some, anti-establishment guy who rouses people up on talking shit without a filter and "tells it how it is". With the added bonus of a large population suffering from a massive inequality gap and oligarchies taking control of everything and corruption within the government, along with the political dynasties. And as some mentioned earlier in this thread, his performance as mayor for the past 20 years in Davao City has received a positive reception, but at the cost of many unnecessary deaths and shady death squads. People are getting really desperate. It's a potentially scary repeat on how our dictator president Ferdinand Marcos held power for so many years.

They only consist of 5% of the population, while more than 85% is Catholic.
Sounds like a reincarnation of Ferdinand Marcos. I wouldn't be surprised when he leaves office he most likely would have usurped funds from the national budget.
Guy has a lot of flaws, but corruption isn't one of them. While his means are questionable, his intentions have all been sincere so far, as seen during his time as a mayor.
Still desecration of remains, not really nice in either religion
it's not really nice in reality either
What he's proposing is basically doing intentionally the typical result of a botched hanging. See hanging is an art, too little rope and the condemned usually ends up having a shitty death; Too much rope and you behead them; but if you measure the rope correctly then it's an instant death.
this is actually really informative, like I'd assume with most people, I never really came across more info on hanging other than "there's a rope around your neck and you're dropped so it gets tight and kills you, like you'd expect a tight rope around the throat to do". Thinking more on it it's understandable a good yank would sever the spinal cord for a quick death compared to just being choked, but I never considered it could flat out rip your head off. Makes sense if you're drop further and gained some momentum (moreso with more body weight)
what's his stance with some parts of the country under Islamic extremism control? is he going to make that a thing of the past in 3-6 months?

Looks like Lou Diamond Phillips.
