holy shit, look at this man! he's utterly minuscule, but that wouldn't stop him from turning shaq into sushi. height is such an irrelevant standard of beauty. while a person's build, style, and hygiene have a lot to do with how much control and order they have in their life, height literally has nothing to do with anything. you can be a complete bum, and could tower over everyone physically.
That's not necessarily true. From a biological standpoint height can be reflective of good genes, and proper nutrition during development that are indicators of a good potential mate. Even if it's an unconscious thing, it is something that does effect peoples choices. Genes can be an interesting thing, the same way that sweat of men and women with more symmetrical faces have been shown to have a more 'enticing' and appealing smell to the opposite sex.

That's in our nature. A physically beautiful person is beautiful because of their genes. Now I understand that beauty can be subjective, but that's only to a point. People are all the time idealizing beautiful people. What people need to do though is focus on their good attributes and cultivate and develop them.
Haha shit, I'm 5'5" and I'm male. The chart didn't even think to include my height. But I'm perfectly okay with that. My lack of stature and inability to reach high cupboards is made up for by the amount of tiny spaces I can safely crawl into. I'd like to see a 6'5" body builder try to go spelunking. Anyway there's no way this had anything to do with height. Self-image issues go a lot deeper than just disliking a few key features about yourself. I hope the guy finds peace where ever he is.
This is really sad. I am also becoming more and more self-conscious about my height although I am 6'0/6'1.
6'4" here. Being tall isn't all that great tbh. Traveling by plane fucking sucks for me.
6'7.5'' 200 lbs. :( Don't talk to me about doorways or plane travel....or basketball for that matter
So like is jt impossable for men to have boddy image problems? Thats what im getting from this thread.
Bruce Lee was 5'7 I'm 5'7 5'7 master race.
damn i'm startin to think about the total lack of pussy i'd get if i were 4 inches shorter again.... i totally feel the dude bout hittin the off switch, 5'7" is just way too short lol
I am 5'6", there is nothing wrong.
Well high school in America is generally always bad, but my high school, Pine Ridge, had this lovely lil nickname of "Crime Ridge" i remember one day the police showed up with drug search dogs because some kid had pot on campus or some shit
that happened like every week at my middle school.
5'4" here. I'm so tiny that my height is not even on that list. ;_;
I'm 6'4, and there's no leg room in any car or any bus for me where I live. I feel bad for anyone taller than me, shit sucks. I gotta be careful on low doorways too, nearly knocked myself out on one at home. (also being short is cute shaddap)
I never checked specifically how high I am but I am smaller than the average man and at height with the girls, but I never caught flack about it. People who insult you based on your height are not worth your time anyway.
Imagine being 179.5 cm tall. I know that feel. So damn close to 180. SO CLOSE
I dont blame the guy for offing himself. I myself am 5'4" and turning 22. I have always been bullied and ridiculed for being so short, and it has left me with some permanent scars and self-esteem issues. Even at my job as a car mechanic I get made fun off. It might be a reason why I am currently unemployed because I get shit all the time even if I try my best at doing what I love.
or maybe nobody cares how tall or short people here are short people are posting this irrelevant crap too, so i dont see how your comment works.
Get over it man. You're the one person rating everyone dumb in this thread. Maybe you don't care about people's height, but personally I find it interesting. How is the subject of height irrelevant to this topic to begin with...

I fully admit that being tall (6'4") has advantages in life. You get instant respect when entering a room, people assume that you know what you're doing, I never really got bullied, etc. I can definitely see how a very short man (even though 5'7" really isn't that short) could have issues with depression if they didn't grow up in a home that stressed true human value not coming from physical characteristics.

Well, except the ones with my best mate, who was 6"4 and 250lbs then and even taller now. I don't remember ever getting into a fight at school that wasn't started by one of us... xD

How is the subject of height irrelevant to this topic to begin with...
because this is a news story about a guy with depression and body dysmorphia and people have responded by either going 'man lucky I'm 6'3 I don't have to worry about this' or 'I'm 5'6 and it's never held me back' and they're all missing the point of what happened. He didn't kill himself because he was short, he killed himself because his body image issues severely damaged his mental health When I was a teenager I suffered from really severe dysmorphia. All body dysmorphia is bad but when it comes to unchangeable stuff it can feel so crushing and hopeless. like it's crushing in any case, but when there's a sense you can't do anything to change it, all you're left with is the idea that you're going to be uncomfortable in your own skin for the rest of your life. At that point, you're going to feel like all you can do is end it. It's a shame he never sought help about this, I know if I hadn't sought help I easily could have suffered the same fate.
I'm 6'5 such is life

That's what it takes. Spoken as someone who spent the first 19 years of his life at only 5'7" maximum in a corner of the American Midwest, where people are freaks and everyone stands at like 6", I always got a lot of shit for it. So I developed my other characteristics: I worked on improving my voice's pitch and tone to make it deeper and louder, I started exercising for strength and doing stuff like ice swimming in the winter to toughen my body up, I started studying more things that would make me seem more intelligent, and I did all of this stuff to ultimately make myself seem like a more interesting person, etc. People in general from my experience are shallow cunts; even now at 22 and 5'9", I know it's true in most cases-- though there are some exceptions. But self-improvement is the key to defeating them. So you're short? Then be loud. Be full of energy and take a dogged attitude towards life. Act intelligent and confident anyway. If they make fun of you, find some deficiency in them which you can brutalize them for. Force them to respect you or at least listen to you. And if it really bothers you, buy some lifts for your shoes. Or special elevator shoes. Or invest in the long term in limb lengthening. Body dysmorphia and depression from it are terrible. I'm sorry this guy did what he did. No one should have to suffer this way.
all you short guys can be thankful you aren't danny devito
