Death penalty 'becoming a thing of the past' says Amnesty International

To say that it's pointless to present an argument against the death penalty doesn't make sense. Over half of the American population supports the death penalty (although it has been declining), which is why it's important to back your argument. Yeah, it seems like it's something that shouldn't be argued, but there's still a lot of people who think otherwise.

I reckon over half of Americans are intrinsically racist, it doesn't valid any argument for it.

Strawman?
How about presenting facts & a good argument against the death penalty to him instead of throwing insults. That's probably a little too much to ask for though.
Well here's some good reasons.
First of all the due process involved with the death penalty ends up costing far more than just keeping a prisoner in prison for life.
Second of all the chance of not putting an innocent person to death is not absolutely 100%.
And of course there is no point in the death penalty at all for all the flaws it has. It accomplishes nothing. It doesn't make the world a safer place because the criminal is contained and no longer a threat to society. If this were some country that had trouble keeping their dangerous murderers contained then it would be more understandable but I'm talking about first world countries like America that have no excuse.
And this is ignoring the glaring moral issues with allowing a state to kill someone who isn't an immediate threat to anyone.
Strawman?
That isn't a strawman lol
Silly Amnesty International. We all receive a death penalty in the end. All of us.... :suicide:
I always have this feeling China is just trying to kill off its huge population.
That wouldn't surprise anyone. Don't they kill female newborns or something?
But seriously, who are those 1000+ kills? Do they sentence to death just about anyone for every crime?
I'm actually surprised the US is still in the top five. I hope the Death Penalty is abolished soon in the USA.
Do you think abolishing it completely will solve anything?
Not that I would mind it abolished, but still it still won't make the kind of crimes go away that are punishable by death.

But the point of abolishing it has nothing to do with crime rates...
This is just my opinion, i dont wanna start any arguments or debates. I respect other people opinions, i just disagree. IMO i dont believe that people who murder more than 2 people deserve to live. They took 2 innocent lives away and ruined many other and they get the privilege of living in a prison cell. It doesnt seem right to me. Like i said its just my opinion.
Don't hide yourself behind "opinions", actually stand up for your dumb argument.
Yeah guys lets trample on other people for having different perspectives, that's a mark that you're more sophisticated, isn't it?

Just because someone has an opinion on something doesn't mean it should be unconditionally respected, especially if they can't back it up.

Its my opinion that you need to give me 1 million dollars.
You can't tell me my opinion is wrong.

Whats with this new craze on Facepunch with defending people with awful uniformed opinions getting attacked? I mean was just looking at a thread where people were legit defending a homophobe because he said it was "his opinion".

because most progressive thought is based around allowing people their freedom, even to have shitty opinions
i feel like a lot of people use this defence wrong and don't understand you can have opinions that are wrong or worth getting shit on for.

It's mostly due to the fact that defending them is their opinion. Either way, there are retarded arguments in the world that get replied to. Not much we can do about it.

Yes, but that includes the other person's freedom to call them out for that shitty opinion.

That's what I said

Two or three reasons right there why it's bad
Also if it's such a deterrent why do people still willingly commit these crimes regardless
Unfortunately. We need more death penalties.
agreed! in fact, let's just dispense with courts entirely and round up people who we don't like in the streets so they can be shot in the back of the head! y'know, anyone who's different, who's a different colour to us, who disagree with our taste in videogames,
let's kill all the disabled people and the poor people, all the unemployed and all the homeless
great fucking idea

i never got this kind of talk
the whole basis of an argument, of reasoned conjecture, is the ability to say your opinion and why you think it's right, and why you believe an opposing opinion isn't correct
saying 'oh it's his opinion, why are you having a go at him for his opinion' is fucking backward - take this to its logical extreme and it'll just be thread after thread of people stating their opinion and nothing else, which in some forums it already is, then the inevitable point where people move into separate threads which only contain people of their own opinion so they can't even absorb an opposing viewpoint via osmosis (which to be fair happens on this forum, e.g. the anti gun control retards)
