First pope from outside Europe in 1000 years (ever?)
atleast 1000 years
Damn was hopin it would be a black pope and he'd pick his name to be Pope Urban
Argentinian pope? the Falklands have had it.
Suddenly Swiss guard swarm the islands.
I wouldn't mind if he didn't. I mean, we (Argentina) were pretty stupid when we engaged in a war over an island with the world's most powerful naval forces.
First pope from outside Europe in 1000 years (ever?)
Ever, yes.
First pope from outside Europe in 1000 years (ever?)
son of italian immigrants, the cheeky little catholics

Kinda reminds me of that one president from Uruguay, a poor, humble man instead of a flashy full of himself guy. Seems like a good guy honestly.
I, for one, welcome our new Catholic overlord.
and here we go [editline]13th March 2013[/editline] and he is out of the closet!
Pope is poping it up for the first time
France has sent a delegate to the Pope. Italy has sent a delegate to the Pope. Poland has sent a delegate to the Pope. Germany has sent a delegate to the Pope. Spain has sent a delegate to the Pope. Brazil has sent a delegate to the Pope. Argentina has sent a delegate to the Pope. Argentina has become papal controller.
what's the point of making a 76 year old the pope if he's gonna die soon
Well, in case he proves himself to be a bad choice, at least he won't stink there for long.
First pope from outside Europe in 1000 years (ever?)
I think there have been African popes before (Roman times and early middle ages, before the Arabs took over the region) So not first ever, but in a bloody long time.
Oh hey the new pope doesn't look like a Sith. This slightly saddens me.
"I hate condoms."
Darn. I wanted another Honorius.
Looks like a kiddy diddler to me IMO.
Looks like a kiddy diddler to me IMO.
Is there an old man that doesn't?
Now interestingly enough, he is a Jesuit. Historically they were a bit progressive as compared to the rest of the catholic crazies
Well the new pope is also an old white man who is against gays, advises against condoms, and is generally not a very good person at all. The last few popes have been so horrible. I really hope he changes some of his stances during his reign.
Okay that was really fucking cool how he made the crowd of tens of thousands go completely silent for prayers
What doesn't make any sense to me is how he's known as being very tolerable to gays when he actively opposed all gay-marriage legislation in Argentina.

And then nothing is different
Did that cardinal really pronounce Twitter as "thuthior"?
Juan Pablo II was actually a pretty good pope.
God no, even from Catholic standards he was pretty bad. But Benedict made him look like a freaking saint (irony inbound). He was one of the worst.
for a forum who doesn't give two shits about religion and is always trashing it, you guys sure care a lot about whose pope. The guy seems pretty decent. Anyones better then Benedict.
Juan Pablo II was actually a pretty good pope.
For a pope at least. In the end they are all Catholics so.
