Is it really so bothersome and offensive to simply use the bathroom that matches the reproductive organs you were born with? It's fine and dandy if your brain is separate and feels different than your junk, but please just use the bathroom, it's really not a big deal.

you really think someone like her walking in a "male" bathroom won't get either a. thrown out b. hurt or harassed in some way?
I don't see how segregated bathrooms is lgbt friendly, but what we've got going isn't a great solution either.
I only have one possible suggestion: remove all the traditional men's and women's restroom signs and replace them with pictures of penises and vaginas. You go into whichever restroom most closely matches your current set of genitals.

that's a problem with culture, not the bathroom. fix the culture, the bathroom isn't what's broken

or just remove the signs all together if you're feeling extra sensitive
Nobody is forcing you to use the gender specific bathroom, you can go to the gender neutral one if you want.
Transgender people get a bathroom, which can be used by anyone.
People who are weirded out by sexual organs get their own, genitalia specific bathroom
I don't see the problem with this.

The whole point of being stealth is that people DONT know you're a woman with a penis or male with a vigana. It can lead to harassment of some form quite commonly.
Replace toilets with a large empty room, with a large turd pile in the middle.
are you incapable of understanding why we have ~special privileges~ for people who aren't as privileged as you? do i like have to explain it? because i am going to.
right now, as i hope you understand, a lot of minorities are basically treated like shit. women, homosexuals, trans people, etc are given ~special treatment~ to give them a leg up in society. why? because they're treated like shit, so we need to give them a helping hand so they aren't completely left in the damn dirt. bullshit conservative attitudes that go like "aint nobody needs special privilege!! we gotta be equal" need to go away.
i dont want special privileges please dont speak for us, you'd be a terrible ambassador
I love how gender neutral bathrooms are somehow inherently LGBT-friendly. Seeing as there's always a place to squat no matter what bathroom you're in, last time I checked banging people isn't exactly the majority of what happens in bathrooms, so why should we rope sexuality in to something that isn't about sexuality?
Bathrooms are about plumbing. (lol pun)

It's actually pretty comical how one of the main arguments against unisex bathrooms is "OMG HOOK UPZ"... when that stuff already happens all of the time. Just because men and women are in the same bathroom does not mean they're all going to hook up. And the same goes for women/women in the same bathroom and men/men.
...because I'm pretty sure if you're gay, it's really easy to hook up in a bathroom right now. And the only time we find the "hook ups" a big deal is when it involves straight people because now it's obvious.

no
Wait so they have to make 3 bathrooms? I was expecting them to just have gender neutral ones, but to have them along side male and female ones? Why not just let transgendered people use the bathrooms of their choice. Or just not legally enforce gender bathrooms.
Because there are some people who are only comfortable in gendered space? I imagine some women who are rape victims are not going to be comfortable in bathrooms with men. (This example chosen because it was raised at an LBTQ campus association meeting I was at where some people had been championing all toilets becoming gender-neutral, and caused a big "Ohhh" from some of the loudest advocates for it)
Gender-neutral should really only be in addition to gendered spaces, because there are going to be people who aren't comfortable with it.
And yes, I agree that trans people should be able to use the bathroom of their chosen gender, but we're a long way off from that. Again, because some people are uncomfortable with that.
rape victims being afraid of men in unisex bathrooms is not the fault of the bathroom. those victims are going to be in fear of men anywhere in that case
unisex bathrooms are usually seperated by wall height, open space private cubicles. a more secure design would prevent those fears. and any other social issues that might crop up with some individuals
make those people feel more secure and less at risk in current unisex bathrooms, rather than wasting even more money and effort on just creating a new room that a small minority of people will be using.
Sure, fistbump. But if unisex bathrooms get universal and they have to cut the standard urinal-count from five to four for space, there will be riots. Four urinals is fuckin' useless, might as well just have three. My local bar has three. And one fuckin' guy, he always takes the middle one. Way to use up all three fuckin' urinals, fuckface! So whenever you go to take a piss, all you can do is awkwardly ajust hair in the mirror, then walk back out.
Funny, it doesn't bother me that much when I'm having to use a urinal that has no free ones around it.

Well I'll see you in a couple of generations when (if) we manage to eliminate that problem, until then - get used to it. Gendered toilets are here to stay and for good reason - I don't think it's fair to force people who aren't comfortable in sharing a space with people of other genders to do so, especially when they have good reasons for not wanting to share that space. The better temporary measure is to allow transgender people to just use the bathrooms of their identified gender or closest equivalent (Thinking in terms of people who identify as androgynous)
Yes, we have to solve the root cause of that problem but until then, it's not fair to force them into something they're not comfortable with.
building third bathrooms everywhere seems a tad inefficient compared to just letting people choose which bathroom they want to use but
Honestly, anyone who can't last an evening without taking a shit/didn't pre-plan and shit in the afternoon isn't worth my time.
That's equally shallow. You don't seem to realize that sometimes, shit quite literally happens. You could have been perfectly clear until shortly before the dessert round with your date, then suddenly you seriously need to take a shit.
