Glaber, seriously, do you understand fucking anything about history? When Bush came into office, he was looking at an economy still booming from the Clinton administration. We'd gone from having a deficit to having a surplus (in case you don't know what i'm saying, this is very good). When Obama came into office several years later we were in a horrible situation caused by a mix of Bush's actions, the Glass-Steagall act, and the crash of the housing market. Jobs were being cut left and right, and the whole economy turned into a fuckall mess. Obviously things will be difficult for Obama; as difficult as it would have been for any other president.

Except in this case the economy IS related to someone's well-being, if everyone is doing bad (poor and stuff) the economy will be bad, if the economy is bad, people will generally be doing worse.
