More like StopDaddy hahahahaha!!!! [editline]24th December 2011[/editline] Sounds a bit rapey actually, nvm
What kind of monetary gain were they receiving from supporting SOPA?
They were excepted from shutdowns under SOPA, while some smaller registrars were not In theory they could use it to shut out competition
Godaddy still sounds like a poor porn website.
They have a porn star in every commercial they air. I'm not joking.
They probably lost more money to this than piracy.
"Aww shit lets grab my shit and pretend I'm against it now, so when is the next bill there so I can support it and do it all over again?"
Its possible that they genuinely do care what their customers / the internet think and thought they were acting in its best interests. Although I am too cynical to actually believe that is the case.
http://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/pacgot.php?cmte=C00432328&cycle=2012 GoDaddy's financial contributions to federal candidates for 2012 include: Lamar Smith (R-TX) (introduced SOPA) - $2,500 Howard Berman (D-CA) (co-sponsor) - $2,000 Mary Bono Mack (R-CA) (co-sponsor) - $1,500 Ted Deutch (D-FL) (co-sponsor) - $1,000 Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) (co-sponsor) - $2,500 Ben Quayle (R-AZ) (co-sponsor) - $2,250 Lee Terry (R-NE) (co-sponsor) - $2,000
What an asshole way to get rid of competition. I hope that they lose nearly all their high profile customers.
They were excepted from shutdowns under SOPA, while some smaller registrars were not In theory they could use it to shut out competition
Oh, yeah, that's what I said. I thought you meant they were being paid directly for supporting SOPA or something.
They probably lost more money to this than piracy.
Didn't know you could pirate domain names. :v:
Our city is still going to buy from GoDaddy even with being pro-SOPA

I'd expect at least $10,000 or something.
Maybe I just know nothing about how companies financially back politicians, but those seem like pretty meager amounts. I'd expect at least $10,000 or something.
Just shows how desperate these prostitutes are.
Maybe I just know nothing about how companies financially back politicians, but those seem like pretty meager amounts.
I believe there are caps, looking at those figures I'd say the cap was $2500. Looks like they wasted their money though lmao.
$2,500 is, quite literally, pocket change to GoDaddy. They made all of that money back in the time it took for them to write the checks to brib-lobby our government.
People need to keep boycotting, they aren't sincere. They probably are still giving campaign donations to the supporters of the bill.
Ummm no, copying, editting, cropping, adding text, uploading, then posting is not 'easier' than saying "Your title, wtf?"
Such a BABY
I wouldn't believe this for a second. They probably still support it.
Why would a domain registrar support this at all? I bet like 25% of their domains are used for less than legal purposes ranging from streaming to downloading stuff. Makes no sense why they would support it.
Why would a domain registrar support this at all? I bet like 25% of their domains are used for less than legal purposes ranging from streaming to downloading stuff. Makes no sense why they would support it.
They have to make their shareholders happy.
Maybe I just know nothing about how companies financially back politicians, but those seem like pretty meager amounts. I'd expect at least $10,000 or something.
You know there are rules for campaign contributions.
I got an email today, telling me to boycott them because they support PIPA. It was telling me to move my domain elsewhere. I read it. Then thought to myself "Okay so you want me to spend money to move my domain to somewhere else, when my current domain registrar is perfectly fine?"

According to reddit and an interview with the CEO they still haven't withdrawn their official congressional support for SOPA. It was all just a PR stunt to try and get their business back. Fuckers.
Why would a domain registrar support this at all? I bet like 25% of their domains are used for less than legal purposes ranging from streaming to downloading stuff. Makes no sense why they would support it.
There's a clause in SOPA where GoDaddy is specifically exempt. It's likely they're going to use SOPA to shut down competition.
There's a clause in SOPA where GoDaddy is specifically exempt. It's likely they're going to use SOPA to shut down competition.
Wait wait really? If there is such a clause shouldn't sopa be null and void because it decides who can and who can't?
What an asshole way to get rid of competition. I hope that they lose nearly all their high profile customers.
They already lost imgur and wikipedia, probably their two highest bandwidth customers.
There's a clause in SOPA where GoDaddy is specifically exempt. It's likely they're going to use SOPA to shut down competition.
How the fuck did the motto "Land of the free" be turned into something with so much bullshit that the politicians only back corporations?
How the fuck did the motto "Land of the free" be turned into something with so much bullshit that the politicians only back corporations?
The promise of power & money. Basically just greed at it's finest.
